I don't think the 09 TL is quite at bad as the new TSX considering the "boys and girls gone mild" demographic it strives to impress. It might even grow on some people.
I agree though about the interviews. If those are the kind of guys Acura has designing cars meant to appeal to young/cool people...uh, hmm...

Someone (not me; Type-SuperFast) photo shopped what a new CL could look like. IMO he did a great job.

People really liked the Legend, they got rid of the it...and replaced it with the 1st Gen 3.5 RL with 225 horsepower!
People wanted RWD, they pushed the limits of fwd, decided to add SH-AWD, but didn't add enough hp to make up for the weight difference.
They redesigned the TSX and added wieght, but gave it less horsepower!
The NSX was a huge success, Acura left it alone for about 15 years with on meaningful upgrades/improvements! What the Hell!
The 3G TL was a huge success, instead of building on that in a good way, they gave it SH-AWD, but didn't even match horsepower with the lighter car from the competition! And I won't even waste time talking about the design of that thing. I don't want my kids to be seen getting out of that monster looking thing.
Its like the decision-makers at Acura have been living under a rock! There's more, but you get the point.

Looks like your typical Prius-driving trendster who is in debt up to his eyeballs and hates his life. So to spite mankind he has given us a pile of automotive design dogshit to drive. I haven't heard this much styling BS in a long time. Talk about trying to blow sunshine.
And yes I just said that. As the owner of THREE Acura TL generations I feel the need to let everyone know I will not be buying a 4th gen TL. Ever. I don't care how many cool audio/visual gadgets it has compared to XYZ example. Its an ugly Accord that offers me little more. EX-V6 Navi FTW.
Hopefully Honda will someday come out with a V8. I'll buy one, convert my RL to RWD and ignore most of the garbage they're churning out these days.
Somewhere Soichiro Honda is upset over what these asshats have done to his company.

I don't even care that Honda has no V8 engine. But the V6 is no longer top of its class. The 4-cylinder is barely clinging to that title as competitors are catching up.
And the newer cars are simply lacking in that Honda-ness feel (the kind that the mass public mistakes as "harsh riding" - seriously, you'd think a Honda is jumping all over the road when it drives with the way people complain about it).

Acura vice president: still aiming tier 1...
from Jeff on vtec.
We have just received a tip concerning a letter that was allegedly sent to Acura dealers by Jeff Conrad (Vice President of the Acura division) The letter asserts that the rumors concerning the supposed cancellation of development of Acura's future "Tier 1" vehicles is "false". According to our tipster, Conrad states that the NSX is "dead for now, but the other plans are moving forward."
Hopefully this rumor turns out to be the one that's true. (Mr. Conrad, please feel free to drop me a line so we can clear all of this up.)
Related Links that are Probably at least Partially Untrue

Interesting development, let's wait and see some more.

I'd like to believe this rumor, but at this point, I just don't know. Honda/Acura is all over the place.

I personally don't believe anything that doesn't come directly from Acura.
What I find funny is that Autocar starts a rumor that Acura is axing all Tier One plans and everyone believes it the forums go to all hell.
Now we have an actual Acura executive confirming that the rumors are not true and that Acura is still headed towards Tier One and people are questioning the authenticity.
It's almost like people just don't WANT to hear anything positive about Acura.

Who cares what a bean counter in a shiny suit says. Let's see some product and then we can have a real conversation.

Yes, there are plenty of tier one alternatives which are:
1. More expensive to maintain.
2. Have crappier residual value.
3. Provide more "status".
I happen to care about low maintenance costs because wasting time at the dealership is not high on my priority of things to do. I care very little for status or badge whoredness. I like supporting a car company which is committed to the ideals of "more with less". I actually love that Honda is committed to ULEV vehicles. But where is the sporty fun to drive quotient?
It's missing and has been for a while now.

I don't need to justify my vehicle purchases but here you go for shits and giggles. Some of us fondly remember the days when Honda built cars which were fun to drive. Not everyone wants or needs a luxobarge. Two of my favorite I've owned were gen 2 and 4 Preludes.

Sell that to the people who took a bath on the CL-S. Resale value was a joke

To me, great residual and easy to maintain vehicles is not something to be ashamed of. I prefer to give my R&D dollars to a company which is/has been environmentally responsible before doing so was "cool". But I still want to see some fun and there is no reason they can't do both.

Obviously things are getting pretty dire out there in showrooms across America, and Acura is not immune to this.
We have received credible information regarding Acura's production plans going forward. Below are some key points.
* 2009 TSX production ends after January. No more '09 TSXs will be built. Next production for the TSX begins in August, for the 2010 model. For 2010 a V6 version has been confirmed, but it will be available only in limited quantities.
* First quarter vehicle production has been reduced. Basically March's original production plan has been lopped off, and the total number of vehicles scheduled for January and February production will be spread across the entire quarter (NOTE: This is different than what I initially posted, I originally misinterpreted the information)
* Unless I'm interpreting my information incorrectly '09 RL production has already ceased. RL production will not begin again until the 2010 model production run begins in May.
* Delivery slowdown to dealerships: A 6-day (per week) transit delivery schedule has been cut in half to 3 days of deliveries per week.
* Only TLs and RDXs are scheduled to be produced during the month of April. The total production will be just barely over 1000 units, with roughly 65% of that total being TLs.
* Production will pick up again in May, with just under 4500 total units scheduled for production. Roughly 40% will be TL, 40% MDX, 10% RDX and about 10% RL.
* June production will remain roughly level with May, but the distribution is shifted around a bit, with the RL seeing no production, the TL seeing fewer units and the MDX making up a little more than 65% of the month's production (presumably the 2010 model)
* Acura Production for the entire 2nd quarter appears to be fewer than 10000 units.
* 2010 MDX will be the MMC model, appearing in showrooms in late August.
* 2010 RDX is also getting an MMC, and should appear in showrooms in the July/August timeframe. The FWD model is confirmed by the information I received.
