One BIG factor missing from this list that I think its a taking up a huge chunk of sales is Tesla 3 which is not showing here. I'm pretty sure their numbers are much higher than the 3 series.
[UPDATE] A quick google shows Tesla sold 161,650 combined of Model 3 and Y series in Q4. That's HUGE. I can't seem to find a breakdown out of that number how many were 3 or Y though.
I read somewhere that 3:Y is estimated about 1:3 or 1:2 these days?

So by that estimate the Model 3 is around 54,000 units sold for the quarter? Versus 12K for BMW 3 Series? Assuming 1:2 ratio. That's what the BMW 3 series sales were doing a couple of years ago.
Considering gas prices were quite low during last quarter, those sales figures are doing amazing. Now that energy prices are going up because of the terrible winter and higher demand, that will probably further boost EV sales.

To put things into a framework Tesla delivered 499,550 vehicles in 2020 BMW delivered 2,172,877 cars down 7%. Of the total 144,218 were high profit "M" cars whos sales as the standalone - BMW M GmbH - division were up 6%. M cars run from a base M2 starting @ $60,000 to the base M8 Convertible starting @ $142,500.

Think its possessable Tesla has reached its high water mark. Its now competing with cars that have superior fit, finish as well as real luxury interiors. Our government might try to save it with forced higher gas prices by killing production. Global crude is rising fast with the USA down on production & OPEC holding lower production except to Russia which it pumping as much as it can to gain foreign exchange.

With just about everybody who builds cars & trucks making "E" versions what worked 8/12 years ago for Tesla will no longer work only for them.

I picked up a Fathom Blue AWD Advance yesterday-the incentives are excellent now as has been discussed. My 100 mile ride home was a pleasure. Since most reviews have been overwhelmingly positive I decided to reevaluate my options. I was leasing a 2018 SH AWD Tech and the ride on the 2021 is not comparable. The quality of the interior materials (seats are the most comfortable in any car I have driven) the performance of the 4 cylinder turbo engine (more than enough power for me) and the 10 speed transmission tuning clinched the deal.

As other owners on the board have said it is a worthy competitor in the sport sedan market.

Congrats! I saw the price you paid in the sign in thread. That was an awesome deal for an Advance SH-AWD! I will buying a new TLX in the next 6 -12 months. Want to see how the Type S measures up first to determine if I will go that route or stick with the 2.0T Advance. Enjoy your new car.

Folks really need to drive this car before they discount it based on hearsay.

Agree 100%. I'm already a fan of Acura/Honda for over 40 years. I knew I liked the car, but had been reading too many things online about it. I finally closed my computer and just drove it. I knew the second I got into it that I just need to stop with the nonsense, pull the trigger and just enjoy it.

The biggest pushback isn't due to thinking the car is objectively a bad car. It's in response to Acura's ridiculous marketing of it, portraying it as a top tier sports sedan. It's no surprise when you see the Honda fanboys delusionally cheering on Honda products when it comes to performance. It really is the most brain-dead circle of enthusiasts. Acura is just the "grown up" version for these mouth-breathers to aspire to. Not so much on here, thankfully ...

Finally found this gem again ... thought they erased it off the internet, but they didn't (they should) ...

https://acuranews.com/en-US/releases...0294738d002268

That last tagline. Jesus H Christ.

"Fast" is now categorized by a car that does 14.5s in the quarter? That was considered slow even back in 2005 in actual performance car circles. It's quick for an every day, grocery-getter ... stop making it a car that it isn't though. It's a competent, fun sedan that you can use every day. It's a good jack-of-all trades vehicle. People will defend it saying, "who cares about 0-60/quarter mile times, that's not what the car is all about." Ok, sure, just tell Acura's completely out-of-touch marketing department first.

Hell, I even get YouTube ads while listening to music at the gym (because I'm an old man on the inside) and even their goddamn fucking Civic commercials talk about Honda's racing pedigree. Maybe spend less money on advertising and use it towards dampening the tumbling build quality of your vehicles ...

I agree. Their marketing has always sucked. From commercials and advertising to not putting up online configurators untill the day the car goes on sale. Put it up months before and let us be like a kid in a candy store dreaming about how we'd build and order our car. They already know the configurations. Let us see it and build the excitement.

I think the marketing issues with the TLX is all the hype, wording and advertising for the TLX is specifically about the Type S, but they don't differentiate that. It's all blanket statements under the TLX name.

One thing I have to agree. Acura’s marketing is presenting each Acura vehicle as it’s a NSX. I find it wrong and misleading. They have to cool it down and create realistic expectations for the buyers. Even MDX, it’s an awesome car for family with some fun. I also think they did a great job with the interior. But putting it next to NSX is stupid. It’s a 7 seater suv and not Lamborghini Urus.

Congrats on the new TLX! I am also looking forward to possibly replacing my MDX with a TLX when my lease expires in August.
What are the biggest improvements in the 2021 over the prior TLX that you have observed?

Acura has moved the car upmarket in every way. The quality of the interior materials is evident the minute you sit in the car. It is much more luxurious and the seats are by far the most comfortable my wife and I have ever sat in.

Coming from the V-6 2018 TLX, I was initially skeptical that the turbo 4 cylinder on the 2021 would have the performance I was used to. An extended test drive convinced me that there would be no issue for me. In fact some posters commented early on after the car was first introduced that when accelerating on the highway to pass a car there was a noticeable lag (some implied that it was in fact "dangerous"). On my 100 mile trip home after picking up the car that never happened in numerous situations when I passed trucks or slower moving cars. As others have said that own the car, if you are in the market for a vehicle in this class, take an extended test drive and determine for yourself if the car meets your needs. I initially was going to wait for the Type S but determined that this car had all I needed.

The audio system is also outstanding and the suspension (especially in the Advance) is a big improvement from the previous generation. It is a shame that the market has moved so dramatically away from sedans. Those of us who love a sporty driving vehicle will appreciate this cars attributes. It is not for everybody as the back seats are somewhat cramped, the True Touch Pad takes awhile to get comfortable with ( although a big improvement seems to have been made from the RDX version) and no vehicle is perfect but it is a worthy competitor to more expensive cars in this segment.

I also lease a 2020 MDX so for the times I need the increased cargo capacity of an SUV, I am covered there. But for a long road trip, I will most certainly drive the TLX !!!

It could also be tied to the vaccinations taking effect and decline of COVID cases.

More disturbing are the limits on precious resources impacting all car manufacturers! I can certainly see demand in Spring/Summer increasing many models close to MSRP or beyond!

Even though the $60k MDX is not in the same league as the $220k 640hp Lamborghini Urus, it is no slouch either.

With double wishbone front suspension, ultra rigid new chassis, new generation rear-biased SH-AWD, the 2022 MDX is no ordinary 7-seater family hauling SUV.

Honda/Acura always put greater emphasis on handling performance, rather than straight line acceleration numbers. The upcoming MDX Type-S, with stiffer suspension tuning and Brembo brakes, will even kick it up another notch.

Acura's marketing commercial means to say that the highest performing Acura car is the NSX, and the highest performing Acura SUV is the MDX. Nothing more.

Because all soccer moms ride their MDX with crash helmets. You can say they're testing it, but it's a race track and they clearly want to focus ad on the performance aspect. It's not even the Type-S, FFS.

Yes. The MDX is the highest performanceSUV in the Acura lineup. But in no way did Acura associate it with the Lamborghini Urus, as Tony Pac has perceived.

Though the powertrain selection is somewhat under fire, there's not doubt that handling on both the new TLX and MDX seems to be on the money.....'soccer mom' usage notwithstanding. (Granted a good number of soccer moms in my 'hood seem to be sporting X5s and ML/GLEs.)

I am with you and I apologize if I made sound that Acura is comparing it to Urus. I just think Acura's marketing team exaggerates. I am not into 0-60 game at all. Unless I spend $100K+ for a car and I go every two weeks to race. This is one of the reasons I like Acura as a brand. The entire lineup is well balanced. But still, I am not a huge fan of their marketing team

Acura marketing is pretty tone-deaf. It's weird how auto-insurance commercials are all pretty top-notch and yet car commercial quality is all over the place. You need to spend money to make money!

The few ads for the TLX I have seen on TV are nothing special, although the one with the train/damsel in distress stuff going on is pretty good overall if somewhat cheesy. The MDX ad with it going balls-out on a track is ridiculous and bordering on comical - to me it's like watching an elephant try to speed skate. Acura's marketing needs to realize that a car like the TLX (or SUV like the MDX) can be made to look exciting and fast, but underneath is more a practical/luxury beast than anything else. Toyota realized that a few years ago with the Camry - it looks exciting so it makes its drivers feel exciting. But underneath, it's still a boring and practical Camry. Correct me if I am wrong, but I have yet to see a Camry ad showing it hurtling hell for leather around any kind of track. The Camry ads show it moving purposefully and quickly through the environments where you would naturally expect to find it - urban and suburban roads and streets. I think for the every day Joe, if a car looks fast and feels luxurious, that's going to be enough - and Acura's ads need to capitalize on that and stop trying to appeal to yobbos who would buy a 3 row SUV on performance characteristics above all else.

You don't always have to show a race track to prove something. Acura needs to show at least one race track and corning move per ad because performance. Even the ILX needs to race even though it's not even remotely close to anything performance related.

These ads prove something but never show active racing. Acura, show your tech and people will appreciate it. I have yet to see one Acura ad showing off SH-AWD, that could be shown while racing but no.

Also pretty typical you hardly ever see competing cars in the Top Tier car adds. Get down lower on the food chain & there are a lot of adds featuring competitive cars.

Christ, Acura. Stop .... just .... stop.

Even when they embrace the fact that the overwhelming majority of buyers are soccer moms, they still want the focal point to be that it's "sporty"?! Come on ...

And where are these unicorns that drive like that? Because just about every MDX I see on the road are being driven at or under the speed limit glued to the left lane.

Christ, Acura. Stop .... just .... stop.

Even when they embrace the fact that the overwhelming majority of buyers are soccer moms, they still want the focal point to be that it's "sporty"?! Come on ...

Well Edward explained it so..

What they don't show is the DCFS goons ready to haul that lady off to the slammer for child endangerment.

I am sure you never saw me driving one 3G MDX is already quite capable for its size at high speed, with high performance tires of course. As long as you accept the suspension is soft (but well damped) and the huge tendency to understeer without trailbraking, you can take advantage of the weight transfer to dive into corners, then use SH-AWD and the smooth V6 torque to get out in textbook style of SH-AWD.

I am fine with these ads personally, because at least Acura did improve 4G MDX handling significantly. This is better than IS500, where you are supposed to show a good sports sedan, but the chassis dynamics completely falls apart.

2021 Acura TLX Type S Sells Out Online In 8 Hours

  • Badge missing for 11 years, sells out in just eight hours

  • Only 240 Type S TLX models in total for Canada

Acura announced Wednesday that it was making the all-new 2021 TLX Type S available for online pre-orders, even before they gave the car a price tag. Acura buyers, apparently, were eager, and the online pre-sale has already sold out.

The sell-out took just 8 hours, with buyers putting down a $2,500 deposit for their Acura TLX Type S and snagging one of the 119 vehicles that could be ordered as part of the advance sale. Even more surprising, Apex Blue Pearl, which might be the best colour offered on the car (and the signature colour of the old A Spec trims) isn’t even available as part of the pre-order.

The announcement comes with another surprise for Canadian buyers looking for the new 355 hp Type S: Canada is only getting 240 units in total, Acura says, meaning that almost half of them are gone already.

Acura says it will start a waitlist, though, for those who still want a 2021 TLX Type S. Reach out to your local dealer or visit the automaker’s website to try and grab one of the remaining places on the list.

The 2021 Type S will start arriving at Acura dealers in June, with a price somewhere around $60,000, though that MSRP uncertainty certainly doesn’t seem to have slowed down interest in the car. In addition to the Type S-spec 3.0L twin-turbo V6, the car will get all-wheel drive with torque vectoring, bigger brakes and tires, and Ultrasuede sports seats inside.

One thing is for sure, the Type-S will not boost up total sales that much any time soon. Hopefully Acura can ramp things up very quickly, before other models get updates or media attention.

I've been saying it for months now. Probably not until the second or third year of production, if ever, depending on how many they make.

that would be the dumbest move Acura ever allowed to happen. Only a fool pays above MSRP for a depreciating asset like this.
