TLX in the wild... and new pics

I read the full automotive news article yesterday and I think he realized that the goal of 500,000 by 2020 might be a bit of a stretch. At least he was successful in renaming all the cars at Infiniti. Imagine if he came to Acura, we'd have another round of model renaming....
Acura just needs to hire some damn designers that can make a car look good. They'll sell.

I've gotta say, after seeing the new videos, I'm completely sold on the TLX. Sure there are minor things I wish were different, but as a total package I really like it. As long as it drives as well as they've presented it too, I'm definitely going to get one in the future. But I'll probably hold out for a sport model. Might be wishful thinking with the direction Acura has been going.... but who knows if the TLX sells well.

Thanks for posting all these pics and videos Ron.
I agree Healingduck I think the thing that will sell this car is the total package for the price. It may not be how it drives at 9/10s but it will get me anyway I want to go as quickly as I need with most of the features I want. It is not without compromise but I will have to compromise less with this car than any other car in my trade space.
I wish they offered the Advanced trim with the I4. That would have been a big seller. Many other manufactures are offering ventilated seats on lower trims, but Acura makes you step up to the top trim, I'd like to see it on the Tech trim.
So now I really want to drive this car and see what if feels like, how quite it is (or isn't) how the features work and that overall feeling you get in the car. But this car is definitely at the top of my list.
For a TSX owner the TLX is a nice upgrade. I'd either go Tech or Advanced. I like the convenience features like a long range remote start tied to the climate system. I hope that can also turn on the ventilated seats. I always thought it was dumb that Lincoln put remote start in the MKZ but would not let you set the A/C to come on with the remote start. The seats look really supportive and comfortable. It looks like a comfortable driving position even so someone of average height, nice room in the back seat. And of course split folding rear seats. Still waiting to see the mocha interior.
I think Acura will do well with this car....
but...
I'm worried about the Reactive Dampers. Sounds like more of the same defective ones they have been putting on their cars for close to 2 years now. Is this the big screw up with this car?

So true. What's the point of having all the latest technology and safety features if the car doesn't look good with it. I want to be able to walk towards my car in a parking lot and say to myself "Damn...that is one nice looking car!" It sure does make you feel better on the inside when making those monthly payments.

That is the exact feeling that I have with my 2012 TL SH-AWD Elite. Every time I look at it now, I feel like, wow, that car is hot and it looks like nothing else on the market! Well, let's see whether the TLX will do that to me too...

My guess is that for many of us, it took some "warming up" time to get to that point. I suspect it will be no different for the TLX.

I get that feeling with our 2011 MDX Advance!

Most of the Acura line had great looking wheels at that time. The RSX, RL etc. The base 3G 17" 5-stars looked aftermarket and still look good to this day. The only problem is that we are all too used to that look and we've seen it a trillion times. If you think about it though it really was a genius choice and goes with the lines of the car beautifully. Better than the mid-cycle base wheels of 2008. The A-Specs made by Enkei were another hit.
I'm not saying these wheels will go with the TLX, but they can find a 2014 design that works. This company is very capable as long as the right designers are making the call.

I will be curious to see if we could put other accessory wheels from Acura....I love the 18" of my TL at the moment....would these fit a TLX for example?
#1096
They have those designers. They have to, because somebody there had to have designed the prototype. I liked the wheels on that, and if those weren't feasible, they could've been toned down without being "wth?"-looking. But wheels can be replaced and really aren't that huge a concern of mine. It's the stuff you can't replace easily that I worry about.

I could not agree more! While the car has a number of advanced technologies, the styling is definitely a let down. I'm not sure the market for "smart luxury" still exists. Look at the new Chrysler 200, it leads the pack with advanced luxury technologies and has great styling. Btw - I have never been a fan of domestics but the mainstream brands are upping their game. So why buy a TLX, when you can get more upscale styling and the same amount of advanced technology on a mainstream brand for $10K less?
Just saying......

FYI, I'll be posting pictures as soon as I get home... I'm at Wholefoods right now... Where there is a white TLX in the lot, with an espresso brown interior. You're welcome.

I actually saw two TLX's today... A black one going the opposite direction on the highway and this white one was parked outside in a shopping center.
Maybe I should work as a car spy picture person part time. Lol.

for those that thought the umber was too polarizing, the espresso looks great, let's hope they continue to offer more than 2 colors in all trims.
The grill seems to appear bigger because 1) white car, 2) tlx is "smaller" than 4G. Is RJ cooking up alternates already?

Is it just me or the white one in this thread above is a bit dented? Hope the panels align and they won't pull an "MDX" on us TL people. LOL

Awesome photos! It looks pretty good in real life although I do agree about those wheels needing to be changed right away. The interior color looks great BTW.
I totally agree. The passenger side front door does not appear to fit right at the bottom where it meets the rear door. It also does not align flush with the lower valence from front to back. I think you may be right that there is a small dent at the bottom of the door.
I'm assuming that this is still a preproduction manufacturer test vehicle so I'm sure that the production models will be fine.

Why on earth would that not make a song and dance out of this interior colour is totally beyond me!!!
It does make me mad that I cannot get this with Black Copper in Canada!!! YIKES! I guess now it's White on Espresso or Silver on Black...
Alright, Weather.... LOL

BTW, can anyone confirm that yet? Seems oddball.

I feel the exact same way about my ZDX. The design was so futuristic and ahead of its time. I can definitely see it standing the test of time and still being hot 6 years from now. I just don't get that feeling with the TLX, but I'll hold off all final judgement until I see it in person.

When I read this post, the first car that came to mind was the 2014 Chevy Impala. Now that is one nice looking car. If only it wasn't a GM product I would have one in my garage right now. After trading my Cadillac CTS Coupe for my ZDX, I'll never buy domestic again.
