Well my car went in finally for the above mentioned TSB. I got it back and what do you know..... It still clunks over bumps as bad as it did before the fix. I am so irritated now. That servcie was a complete waste of time.

How do we deal with something that Acura can not fix?????
I`m getting really upset about it ....using the delicate word.......

Count me in on a lawsuit if they don't have this fixed on the 08's.

Back from the dealer with the A18 fix. Uhm, guess what.... it's not a fix. It's a bandaid to hold us over while they figure it out. This situation has really damped the driving/ownership experience of what should be great car. Lawsuit? Sure, i'm in.

Just picked up my CBP TL-S 5AT today.. I may (or may not) have an issue. I got both damper units replaced, but the part I have listed on my invoice states -A16. I've read this thread, and most of you have listed -A17 and A-18. Is there a way for me to find out that they put the correct damper on? Is it possible they put a TL damper in my TL-S?
Granted the sound is not as loud as before, so whatever they did, it seems to have worked for now....

The A16 version is the incorrect part...its been so long and so much water under the bridge, I honestly can't remember if its a TL or a TL-S part, though. But I do know that the only approved "NEW" part is the A18's. Note that this wasn't a fix for everyone. It greatly helped my situation, but not completely. Maybe these simply ARE loud struts and the remaining noise is simply part of the function. Its only minor now, so I have no intentions of doing anything further.
Good luck!
Good luck!

I'm a little more at ease now.. I called 2 Acura dealerships in Houston, 1 in Phoenix, and 1 in Dallas... They all confirm that the 52611-SEP-A16 is the most current replacement damper (only the damper) for the TL-Type S. I specifically asked each parts department if this part number is for a regualr TL or Type-S. They all said Type-S. Perhaps this is the highly anticipated part for October that the previous threads were mentioning?

I dropped mine off this morning at David McDavid in Austin. They didn't get it completed today but hopefully tomorrow when I get it back it'll be better. I'll be sure to check the part numbers and see if they match.

Got the TSB work done last friday, picked the car up at 6pm, it was great by 9pm the "clunk" was back but not as bad as it originally was....but its just like the last fix, started out slow and got worse. THis is such a joke....i wish i never got this car!
As far as I'm concerned A18s is no better than any previous part numbers. Im at work now but got a voicemaill from the service manager that the regional rep will be in on friday if i want to set up a meeting. I definently going to meet with them, ill let you know how it goes. And im gonna make sure he rides in it, hears the rattles, pinging and "clunks"

Acura Still Has The Problem
I have a 2007 TL-S with almost 1000 miles and it is very noisy front and rear. The dealer replaced the rear shocks last week. They told me the third pair worked. However, 5 days later the noise at the back has returned. The front rattles on every ripple. I am going back in on Friday for a part on the rear deck. They did not tell me what the part was. I have a 96 TL with 180K and no rattles. Go figure. I'll be pressing for a permanent fix or a refund.

Honda and Acura people used to laugh at my LS1 Z28 Camaro because of its "poor quality."
Then I buy a new Acura TL Type S and am reading about failing suspension, engines that "ping" (which Acura continues to deny) and a host of other problems...
My VIN is a later number than what's covered by the rear shocks TSB, but now I'm wondering what's going to break on my car...

The rattle i hear from the front seems to be the front dust shields behind the brakes.
I'll have the dealer look at them when i go in for an oil change.

Like I said, the car was tight as drum after 6 years and 80K miles worth of driving in New England.
It got BETTER mileage than this TL while producing ~ 300 HP - at the wheels - right off the showroom floor. And it would run all day long on 91 octane gas without a single hint of "pinging" (see other posts regarding that problem).
That engine was quality in terms of DESIGN. It didn't have to rev like hell or run an 11:1 CR to do what it did. It simply made power - EVERYWHERE - while getting mileage that was fully on par with my '04 and '06 V6 Accords.
J.D. Power doesn't measure that type of quality.
Honda's closest competitor to that Camaro in '99 was the Prelude (base model). For the same money I would have gotten a little car with a tiny trunk and a 200 HP 4 banger that got WORSE fuel economy than the LS1 Camaro.
The suspension in my '06 Accord V6 coupe was nothing short of laughable - despite the fact that it used "racing inspired double wishbones. What good is "quality" or "racing inspired double wishbones" when you have to throw ~ $2,500 worth of aftermarket parts at a new car to make it handle ~ 75% as well as the solid rear axle car you just sold (Camaro)?
People love to throw around terms without considering the entire picture...

So you hated the ride of your Honda Accord? Why did you even bother buying another crapping Honda? Why don't you learn from you own experience? Just buy another brand or stick with the Camaro.....wouldn't that be a wiser choice on your part?

I've never used the term "crappy" in describing any Honda product. I'm merely pointing out that every make of car has issues of its own and that Honda and Toyota people tend to jump onto the "quality" bandwagon while failing to realize the shortcomings of their own vehicles.
The LS1 remains the most impressive engine I have ever owned for reasons that I pointed out above. People laugh at that, too, since the engines uses "old fashioned pushrods." Who cares? It made 300 RWHP and got 19/28 right off the showroom floor. (I personally saw 28.2 MPG while averaging 81 MPH form RI to Alexandria, Va in that car. I got lower to mid twenties in mixed driving.
I remain amazed by that combintion of power and fuel economy to this day.

Where to start----
There have been some issues with the 07 tl-s (sort of a new model)
I will take my chances with acura over chevy any day when in comes to correcting these issues I have had plenty of experience with GM
As far as the ls-1 motor it is a good motor & i guess the bugs should be out by now since its approx.100 years old As far as you gas mileage you should alert the media because they are real good numbers !!!!!!!!
Oh by the way i have had my tl-s since Feb 07 No problems so far

And back to the thread topic...
That was kinda my impression after the A18 fix...I'm sorta over it now. If something else creeps up please keep us posted. I'll do the same.

I didnt get to meet the rep last week, they canceled and said they were stuck in chicago so maybe soon it will happen... But everyday goes by the cluck gets louder and louder. A19s?? i reallly dont see how its so hard to get this fixed right!

Yup, experienced the same problem, I have 1400 miles on the car now.... It felt like what you said. It almost bangs on every little bump... I also considered lowering the air pressure in the tires.. but with the air pressure gauge light, I wasn't sure if I'd have to stare at the light being on due to low tire pressure. So , nothing from the dealer???
P.S. any issue with the cv-joint, transaxle, transmission, making a clanging or clicking sound in the automatic while moving the gear selector?

There is something funny going on in the rear suspension. It is very noisy--sounds almost like the spacers were left in from shipping. It makes almost a banging noise, even over the smallest bumps. I bought the car from a dealer 2.5 hours away, and bringing it home this Friday it was two quick turns on to the highway before home, so I didn't notice it at first until I was on regular streets closer to home. Swung by my local dealer who said something definitely was wrong. They put it on the lift and did a quick inspection. Not seeing anything obvious, I have to drop it off Tuesday when they have more time.
Has anyone else experienced this? It is very annoying. Just wonder if anyone else has any hints so I can point the dealer in the right direction.
It is very loud, the car I test drove didn't do this, and it is (fortunately or unfortunately) audible every time you drive over any kind of disturbance in the road.
Thanks.

David McDavid Acura in Austin has had my car since 10:00 a.m. last Monday (20 August). The service rep told me, on Friday, that the suspension components have been changed out but now there's an unusual noise coming from the left strut tower. The only way I get updates on what's going on is when I call them and ask about it - piss poor in my opinion.
I don't really know what to make of this week long TSB repair... I have an RDX as a loaner and I really like it but the passenger seat is a torture rack.

Well, the dealer canceled my Friday appointment and rescheduled me on Tuesday, as that was when the dealer technician would be available to ride with me. On Tuesday I asked him to drive it. He and I took it over some very bumpy roads while both the front and rear banged continuously. After several miles he admitted he heard thumping from the rear, but nothing from the front. As we were pulling into the dealership, the rattling noises from both the front and rear were distinct and he volunteered he heard both ends rattling.
I left it Tuesday morning at 810. The dealer gave me a 2007 TSX with 11000+ as a loaner. While firm, it road well with NO rattling and (comparatively) very little suspension or tire noise over the same roads.
The dealer called at 330PM and asked to keep the car another day as they were not satisfied with the progress. The called again at 330PM on Wednesday and requested another day.
On Thursday at 400 PM they called and asked me to come in, explaining they had taken the other two type s on the lot for rides and found the ride and noise comparable. Therefore, the noise was typical of the model.
While they did not come out and say it, I felt they were implying that since all the Type S' had the problem I should accept it. I told them the suspension was not acceptable and that just because the design was faulty did not excuse them from fixing the problem.
The service rep asked me to drive the car over the weekend to see if the "repair" improved the noises. It took me exiting the dealership to know it had not.
They asked me to be patient while they worked their way up to the proper people at Acura/Honda.
This is the second repair attempt on the rear and the first on the front, even though I had told them about the front end rattle on my previous repair attempt for the rear suspension problem.
At first they told me they had had only three vehicles with this problem of all the type s they had sold. One belonged to a tech, and the other two I had driven. Now, as the other two on the lot have the same problem, it seems to be "normal" for the vehicle.
I will be going back on Tuesday. Since they seem to have exhausted their allowed responses to the problem, it is now time to get Honda involved.
I believe they can address and solve the problem. They may just need some encouragement. I am eager to work with them to an equitable solution, but my patience is a bit strained. It is an Acura TL, not some econobox. Even with a firm suspension, it should not rattle over ripples.

The TSB for the bad TL-S rear shocks covers VINs 7A000001 - 7A031980. (Those are the last 8 VIN characters.) The TSB doesn't address front suspension issues.
Those VINs are for earlier '07 TL-S cars, which either means that your car sat on the lot for quite some time OR the problem exists in cars with later VINs that aren't yet recognized by the TSB.
Does your VIN fall within that range?

A18 has been installed and while there is a huge improvement I wouldn't say that it's totally fixed. Well see how it pans out but I'm just happy to have my car back; the dealership had it for 8 days for what I thought would be a simple procedure.

How that can turn into 8 days is anyone's guess.
