2007 Type S - Noisy Rear Suspension
Picked up my 2007 Type S on Friday. I very nearly went with the new Infiniti G35x, but the deal didn't end up working out (they couldn't get the exact car I wanted until March). So, I stuck with Acura. My 04 TL was great, and so far I am really happy with the 07 TL-S. Lots of nice upgrades. Except for one thing...
There is something funny going on in the rear suspension. It is very noisy--sounds almost like the spacers were left in from shipping. It makes almost a banging noise, even over the smallest bumps. I bought the car from a dealer 2.5 hours away, and bringing it home this Friday it was two quick turns on to the highway before home, so I didn't notice it at first until I was on regular streets closer to home. Swung by my local dealer who said something definitely was wrong. They put it on the lift and did a quick inspection. Not seeing anything obvious, I have to drop it off Tuesday when they have more time.
Has anyone else experienced this? It is very annoying. Just wonder if anyone else has any hints so I can point the dealer in the right direction.
It is very loud, the car I test drove didn't do this, and it is (fortunately or unfortunately) audible every time you drive over any kind of disturbance in the road.
Thanks.

It sounds to me almost like they forgot to take the spacers out of the rear suspension from shipping. The dealership said it looked ok. They are going to use some device to isolate the noise, I guess...

I have the same problem. Before I took delivery the dealer noticed I had a bad strut and replaced all four. Now I am having the same problem in three of the new struts. My dealer has told me that they will replace them again but it is going to keep hapening until Acura (who is aware of the problem) comes up with a fix.

Well, I'm just looking forward to getting it fixed. I wince every time I got down the street now. Has really killed the joy of my first weekend with the car. Otherwise, I love it. The stereo is so much better and all the other little upgrades make it far superior to my 04. I am looking forward to enjoying it unconditionally!

That's a bummer, especially with the distance from the dealer. Hope this works out for you and Acura gets their stuff straight real soon.

Happy Holidays!
I think my tl-s is having the same noise coming from the rear. I am a little confused about these spacers. First Mike Elmon wrote that maybe the dealer forgot to take out the spacers. Then kinetics wrote about not seeing any spacers in the car. Sorry, I don't even know that much about spacers....can someone shed some light on this. Thanks.

They put spacers in the suspension when shipping the cars so they aren't bouncing around on the suspension. It would be unusual, but I thought maybe the noise I heard was that. Unfortunately, not. Sounds like a widespread issue.... Not too exciting.

I have the same problem. Noticed it while going fairly slow around town 20-40mph.
I noticed the dealer had put too much air in the rear tires 37psi, I dropped it to 32psi and the noise dropped significantly, but it is still there.
Have an appointment with the dealer on Wednesday - we'll see what they say.

Yikes. I know not every 07 TL-S has this problem, since the one I test drove did not do it. But how many are out there NOT experiencing it?
My rear tires are at 34 PSI, fyi.

Same thing here. Not loud, just a little unusual. I figured it normal, as everything feels great. Seems worse when you first drive off, then quiets down. Thought the cold weather had something to do with it. Tire pressure spot on, and occurs on all four, I tested on the same bump. Either, I'm getting used to it or it's going away, nothing compared to what it was, now at 800 miles. Either way, I'll wait till Acura addresses the situation.

Just to keep interested parties updated:
Car went to the dealership this AM. Problem is the struts. I was the first they had seen with this issue; they had another car come in with the same issue later today. The bad news: The parts are on national backorder. Will be about a week until they come in. So, unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident.
I called Acura Client Services to alert them (although I am sure they know) and to complain, since to have this happening on a brand new car is totally unacceptable.
Others having the same issue please keep us informed on your progress.
Thanks.

Here is my update...
Took it to the Dealer this morning. Just got the call that their tech heard the noise but hasn't been able to find it yet. They are going to keep the car overnight and continue trying tomorrow.
I mentioned about the struts, but he didn't comment one way or the other.
We'll see how tomorrow goes...

Another update.
I just picked up my car. The Dealer said they talked with Acura tech support and are going to replace the rear struts. Also just like MikeElmendorf they said the parts are on national backorder.
They would not give any indication as to when they would come in.
The service experience was fine, except for the fact that I had to have one in the first place and a second one when the parts come in.

Agree with MD. I am awaiting word on the parts. I also called Acura Client Services two days ago to register a complaint, and await a call back from the regional case manager. This is really unacceptable.

Can one of you ask your service guys if the 07 Type S suspension is the 04-06 Aspec suspension? Thanks

Hey guys,
I bought a 2007 TL-S about 2 weeks ago. I had the same problem you guys have been having with the noise in the rear. Crest Acura in Syracuse, NY desided to replace the same thing they told you guys, the rear struts. They put new ones in about a week ago and no noise. I complained to the Acura 800 # and they gave me an incentive to show their appreciation. You guys who have been having this problem may want to call.
Hope you guys have luck
