Did he say if they had a TRUE fix for it?

Just got back from my dealer because of it and they were going to research the hell out of it before making any plans...I like that idea. I only want to fix this once. Some of the guys on here are going on their 2nd or 3rd fixes...! I want no part of that.

Didn't bother to ask since I have an '04. Seems like your dealer is doing the right thing.

Well got back from the dealership. As we could of figured the standard TL had a very quite suspension but they were out of TL-S models to try. So my eval will have to wait until they get mre Type-S in.
TL's have a different suspension and different tires.
My TL-S is much better after the strut replacment but this is going to take a bit of test drives on another TL-S to see if this is systemic.
Keep the info coming.

Its an '06 R6s Raven. R1 has waaay too much power for anyplace but the track. I'm BIG on fun but also BIG on safety. Other than the "wow factor", there's no reason to have a litre bike on public roads. At the Gap, too much thrust and you've low sided, or worse - high sided and dead! IMO.

I've got better pics, just non that I had handy when I made that avatar. I'll fix it with another later.

While I was at the dealer he mentioned a really picky customer that, I gathered, was in often for rattles and such. He thought that if anyone was going to complain about it, it was him...and he hadn't. Sounds like its luck (or unluck) of the draw as to who gets the "clunk in the trunk".

07 TL S with 360 miles has the problem

My car has 360 miles on it, and it had the clunk from day one - it is now 11 days old! I had it at the dealer today for installation of the mud flaps, side moldings etc, and had them drive it. They recognized that something is abnormal, and have given me a loaner. They are going to diagnose again tomorrow and let me know what they find.

Initially it was really loud and bothersome. Turned out, on delivery, the spare tire was loose and adding to the noise. Tightened it down, and the noise got a lot better, but is still there.

Not at all happy with this - I bought an Acura again after owning a Legend from 91-94. I expect more.

Will keep you guys posted on the fix.

Undertaker,

Have you driven another TL-S yet? My car seems a lot better. But i think the noise i still here is more of the stiff suspension than anything else. I've still not driven another TL-S yet. Hopefully this Saturday.

This is EXACTLY what I'm trying to avoid. Repeated trips to the dealer to fix the same thing...that sh!t only makes my blood boil.

George -

I've not driven another but a guy I work with has one he bought in Feb. and he says that the ONLY thing he hears from his car is the dreaded bass rattle from the back shelf. He's even had his wife drive and him in the rear seat, and hes says he can't hear anything. Tight or not, a suspension shouldn't make enough noise to be heard through the cabin under normal road conditions, right?

You're correct that there should be no noises. Defiantly have to take another TL-S for a drive. Hope to do that this weekend. The dealer is getting a few this week.
Will keep everyone posted.

I have not noticed any noise from my TLS built in April 07. Is it REALLY obvious that something is wrong?

Ummmmm...in a word, yes! Sounds like the rear strut has a 1" gap at the connection point to the car...like its about to come completely off. You can almost feel it.

Hi there George,
Yes I have driven not one but two of them and no noise like mine!!!
one was demo and second brand new.I must say demo was a little noisy but not like mine...although same kind of noise...
I `m gonna take mine friday back to service but I dont know what they gonna do???
My theory is they received same "broken "parts to fix the car ,that were in a car from the factory...this would explain why some people get it fix first time nad other not.
You said they fixed your car or is it just a little better?
in my car i can still hear that clunk....

Mine is much better if not cured. I still hear something on pot holes or wash board. Spokane street suck. That's why i need to take a Type-S out for comparison. If the klunk is still there i'd say it 80 or 90% gone. I won't stop on this until it's 100% gone. I'm picky.

hi there George,
would you tell me what dealer did you go for a fix ?
if you can tell me name or (and) the phone number for them ?
I think I will have my dealer call them and ask about the fix -this is the only way I can think of right now...
this would help a lot!
thank you very much in advance...

Well, my dealer called today. He said he (the service manager) called Acura himself to discuss the issue over the phone. He said the they (Acura) now have a sure fix for it and that I would receive "the brand new strut". He emphasized "the". He said he researched it to make sure that this was "the" fix. We'll see.

My appointment is May 11th. I'll re-post after that date with what was on the service ticket. That is if its different than what has already been posted.

Suspension noise

I got my 07-TLS back this evening. The service tech did establish that all was not normal with the noises. They re-torqued all the links in the rear end to no avail, as I expected. The noise is still there-infact maybe a bit more noticeable.

The SA has committed to getting the right information needed to fix the problem, so I should hear from them in the next few days. In the meantime, I guess I crank up the stereo and hope for the best!

I may also pass on the number of the Service Manager in Spokane, as it may save some time in getting the correct answers, and a solution.

I passed on a BMW 335i in favor of the TL-S hoping to avoid exactly this type of situation. This is very unlike Honda/Acura, to put a product out with a defect, and then take so long to figure it out.

Hi there George,
I just came back from the dealer.I spoke with the service manager and told him about this forum....
If you can post the "different part" number on the forum so everyone can tell the service tech what they should order ,couse its seems to be a solution...I dont want them to order for me same wrong or deffective part third time!!!
Thank you for your help

clunking noise

Yes, this would really help. I gave my dealer all the information I could find from this website, as well as the number to Bill in Spokane. I spoke with Bill yesterday who said that he has done 4 cars - full rear strut replacement, and none of them have come back with a problem, so that seems to be the fix. It does not show up in a VIN status search, because it is not a TSB yet - just a Tech Line Article. He anticipates that it will be a TSB soon.

Acura called me yesterday to check on my satisfaction with the car, and I told them that I was very surprised that they had not taken care of this issue with the TL - S.

Hopefully, they can get something going in a hurry, as the noise seems to be getting louder.

Okay...just got off the phone with the Parts Department (the Service Manger is off today). He said the part number ordered for me is 52611-SEP-A15. Placement of the dashes is suspect, but the numbers/letters are correct.

Post #153 on the previous page by george indicated that the part number ordered for HIM was different that the listed stock number. My parts department verified that they are indeed different. My dealer is planning on replacing ONLY the strut, not the entire assembly. I know george has had some residual noise even after the fix, so I'm hoping for the best on my visit.

Keep ya posted.

Hi there,
ok I just looked up my copy of paper work from last time they changed the strut and it says 52610-SEP-A17 so it looks like the other part really is different....will see,
I`m calling my dealer rigth now...
p.s. RR might mean REAR RIGHT so 17 or 15 might just be left or right...lets hope its an all different part...

This Just In!!!!!

My Service Manager, Bill, just called and said that he needs to cancel my appointment for next week. He said that the struts (#52611-SEP-A15) are NOT working as an effective corrective action for the noise and that many people are having to come back in over and over. He said that "he just got off the phone with Acura Engineering and they are working on a permanent fix".

He understands that I only want this to be corrected once and didn't want to waste my time, therefore, he said that he will contact me the minute Engineering contacts him with a permanent response to the situation...

...at least they're listening to me...and trying. It helps that my first cousin sells their Porsche and Jag cars next door at the sister company, I guess. BTW, the name is:

This confirms my suspicion that the noise is not totally gone. I've got a test drive scheduled for Saturday in a new TL-S. Will see. At least Acura seems to be working on this.

Had the same problem with my Type-S the same day that i bought it. My friend that works at an Acura dealer told me that the car has a bulletin that if the car comes with a noise on the rear suspension thay have to REPLACE the struts . They did that to my car when it had 25 miles but now at 1028 it has started to present the same problem. I will take it again to the dealer on moday.

I wonder if this is an early production glitch? What's the manufacture date of the problem cars? Mine is Dec 06.

Damn. Just reading this thread. I think mine may have the same problem. When going over bumps something just doesn't seem right. I really don't like dealers touching my cars. I think I'll wait to see what the permanent fix is and do it myself. I just expected it to be quieter over bumps....

Well gentlemen I am about to join the club of getting the rear suspension noise problem fixed with an unproven solution but, not because I think it’s going to help my car. Instead, just to start a file with my dealer who seems to be ready and willing to help. Once they find out that it does not work they can start a similar "tech line bulletin" or however they communicate to Acura, just as a means to create a paper trail illustrating what the problem is. With a high number of complaints their needs to be a paper trail to follow. They also need to show documentation of an attempted fix for the problem with a factory replacement part. After they have replaced the part with one that they have ordered and are sure is not defective they have no choice but to find another fix to the problem. I will not let them do the same fix twice; they will have to prove to me that the second time is a valid and different fix before they get my car again. We can all complain until we’re blue in the face but if they can’t keep track how many TL-S this is happening with, the problem remains isolated to only a few cars. Not enough to warrant a recall and a total redesign of the effected factory part.
I hope the end result of my sacrifice is getting this problem fixed. Also I have cautioned them as to how clean I keep my car and that I am aware of every detail and have pictures so that if I receive my car any different appearance wise than I gave it to them, they will keep it until my new parts arrive and my car restored back to its condition prior to being in their care. They assured me that this wont be a problem but we’ll see…

This problem will be fixed, with factory parts or aftermarket parts and not out of our pockets…
