Not a MAJOR DIY, but I like to share when I have to fix something on my beloved 3G since I'm not likely the only one with the problem.

My Rear Quarter Panel Sash had this weird set of ridges in it, I smoothed them out a little with my finger but they always come back and recently, I noticed they are cracking. Also, the passenger side is starting to get it, but not nearly as bad so you can't really see it. FINALLY decided to fix it.

Time: 30 minutes
Difficulty: 2 out of 10
Part NUMBER: 72771-SEP-A01ZA (driver side one, have them look up passenger) Cost me approx $40 cause I live at Acura but expect to pay anywhere from $40-$70 for it. I don't recall the list on it.
Tools:
Flathead, philip head screwdrivers, some shin etsu grease can't hurt, 10mm socket with extension and ratchet and a small headed torx set (can probably use a very thin flathead)

Start off by removing window visor if you have one and put your window DOWN!!!

OK, I won't go over how to remove your door panel, this has been covered...the rear door panels are even easier as there are 4 screws...one on the stopper, 2 in the latch area, and that one under the handle...then pull on the clips. They shouldn't break. Unclip the plug and remove the door handle pull wire and move your door panel somewhere safe.

Now, there are 2 bolts and a small torx nut up top that hold the sash in place.

Take off top torx nut, the sash won't go anywhere on it's own anyway since the window guide rubber is inserted into the channel.

Next, carefully pull back the white plastic liner enough to get at it and (pull apart the glue that holds it, not the plastic itself...it will restick afterward. go thru that little access hole and to get at the top 10MM bolt

The bottom one, has a little spacer between the bottom of the sash (rusty!!) and the back part of the door metal, it has a little tab to hold in place so grab it because when you pull the longer bolt thru, it will fall into the door. Not the end of the world but a wasted 2 more minutes looking for it.

Here are the nuts

Ok, now here is why you put the window down...use your head, but if you're doing the driver side, move the top of the sash down a little ( to get that little bump near the hex screw hole out of it's seat) and toward the front of the car. This action will pull the sash off the rear quarter window and also will pull the bottom off of the back of the window (since the sash is the window guide too). BE CAREFUL NOT TO PULL/PUSH OUT THE QUARTER PANEL WINDOW GLASS. It's not easy to come out since it's embedded in rubber but still, I'm SURE that's a pricey piece.

Anyway, once you get that, you can begin to pull it back out of the window and up (pull it out on the inside of the door) removing the rubber channel on the way down.

Here's the new vs old.

Now at this point I took the time to put on a nitrile glove and rub down the whole rubber channel with shin etsu grease (keeps the glass sliding smoothly and quickly and preserves the rubber, it's a honda product)

Now, reverse, start with the rubber channel on the bottom of your new sash, it lines up at the bottom and as you push it into place insert into door in same fashion and start putting it down as you push the rubber into channel. At the end, takes a little wiggling around but it will end up back on the window glass and against the quarter glass.

Put torx nut back in, then the 2 10MM bolts, panel back on and you're golden. DONE!

Hope this helps some people out...

J.

Haha...how you been?!?! Anything new or fun?
I've been laying low on modding, just fixing stuff here and there...last weekend, worked on lumbar and courtesy light repairs. But nothing else...enjoying the smooth ride of the Aspecs. I'll probably eventually get tires for my WORKS, but I'm not in a rush for now.

I started school which is about an hour south of my parent's house, so the TL just sits in a parking lot

I cannot for the life of me tell why the fk this happend, my friend. No idea whatsoever. It was like this when I got the car and got progressively worse. I prolly could have wrapped in gloss black or CF but there isn't must surface to hold it in place on the back part of it so was happy to keep it oem.

I have an apartment that's literally right next to campus so the TL doesn't get driven much. Maybe once a week.

People just piss me off and unfortunately I let them get to me, especially when driving.

I try my best to be helpful here on Acurazine but when there are 5 threads on the first page asking if Type-S tails will fit a base TL, I get annoyed. I chewed one guy out earlier this week. I felt bad but at the same time his answer had already been posted in another thread. People are just so lazy nowadays, they don't want to take the time and effort to find an answer themselves. With how expansive the internet is and with how many search engines there are, there's no reason why people should make threads about tail lights and stuff. The 3G Garage covered all of these topics YEARS ago. Someone took the time to do the research, post their findings, and then the mods took the time to organize it all, and it's totally ignored.

Just my

I think the key is when you no longer feel the need to even bother saying "fk you"...you just kinda move on with your day without flinching.

About the forums, here's my pet peeve, I've got a decent post count now and have been on for a bit, so I get so many random (usually younger) members that PM me "yo, how do I do this or that or what's better" etc...No please, no thank you, no my name is Jeremy. Just gimme...I see it in person with the neighborhood kids too...I try and be tolerant and think "hey, they just don't know any better" but then there's the response like OK cool...not thanks, nothing.

...and no Jayvee, I'm not talking about you, you're just mildly (putting THAT mildly) indecisive...but I don't mind giving you my opinion and I try not to get butthurt when you don't follow it . There are plenty of dudes on here that I consider my cyber friends or acquaintances and I don't mind helping most, but rude people irk me.

This was what my facebook status was about the other day, friend... getting butthurt when people I know (personally, in that case) ask for advise then cant even give a thanks when I helped them solve a rather large problem of theirs that took me much effort to figure out on my own during the past 4 years of TL ownership. Not only that.....but they could never even say "hey it worked out." Just kinda left me hangin.

^^^ yeah but the difference is there are people who are willing to learn and people who are willing to steal....you have done something amazing with your car....and i would like to learn and follow your footsteps rather than another dude who would be like "aaahh i thought about it myself and did it better than him".....

J, i get a ton of PMs as well, from RSB to LED's to HID's to exhaust LOL....I do tend to help out as much as i can coz there was a time i used to (and still do PM people)....

i usually dont flame people over not searching, coz its either opening a new thread or bumping an old thread....but yeah if someone calls me out, i tend to loose it LOL

I worked on the phones for 7 years, customer service for the utility. I had a LOT of practice telling people bad news and having to get them to smile about it.

Gerzand, I'm so with you on that feeling, that's why I said what I said about IHC and some other dudes losing their shit and saying they're not helping anyone anymore or going to close their AZ account. Whatever, I guess I'll just be selective...technically, I take the time to do my DIY's because I think "hey, when I was looking for X Y Z solution to X Y Z problem I was very grateful to the guys that pioneered repairs on our cars or bothered to help me troubleshoot stuff. So I figure, if you take the time to do a DIY, it'll answer the question off the bat. AND I don't do it for the "you're so awesome" or the "thank you" but fk man...have some fkn manners, someone takes the time to write a paragraph or answer your question or spent their time and money solving a problem...how about a fkn THANK YOU. Seems like the decent thing to do.

My fiancee gets so pissed at me...example...neighborhood kid comes knocking on my door...his friend has a TL that he left there and it won't start. He's a good kid, I know that already...but I'm in the middle of dinner and he opens with "hey, wanna come take a look at this for me?!". I knew what he meant and I already figured I'd give him some leeway and if I say I will, I'd rather just do it now than later...so I went to help him. He said thanks but I really should have told him NOT NOW, or ASK PROPERLY. Needless to say, my tolerance for people is higher than my fiancee...she'll cut a motherfkr much more quickly than me.

lol; I love this thread.

You know what else it is too? People like that almost expect help; you know what i mean? They have no manners or don't show them because maybe they've never needed them; people just hand them help. Spoiled kids. but then again; there's always those arrogant people that just think they're hot Sh**. The point is ; i have zero tolerance for that. J; if that was me i would've said something like " Maybe if you ask a little nicer; I wouldn't mind you interrupting my dinner for a problem i dont need to help you with.." Not being an ass; but still teaching them a lesson. Someone needs to. I always get faced with arrogant people;especially at work. They literally come up to the counter and ask for help facing the opposite way;while talking on the phone? Like wtf guy? ugh.now im mad.

Thanks man,
Yeah, brother...totally agree though. People blow my mind...2 things I don't do and hate when people do. Don't pick up the phone or call anyone 2 seconds before you have someone physically in front of you you need to talk to. It's fkn rude. The person on the phone can wait.

Also, you walk up to someone or drive up to someone, tolls, drive thru, inside a building...take your sunglasses off and look the person in the eye.

Fk, I'm getting old...

J.

PS, saw a PSA this morning on TV...it's about teaching kids manners...about Please and Thank you. How awesome and timely was that!
