What kind of turbo (specs), type of fuel pump, injectors, manifold, how difficult is the install etc. Things we should know when purchasing a kit.

I really what this kit but I'm not buying this blindfolded. I hope you understand my point of view, I dont want to piss any one off.

Once again you have done an excellent job with this project and I respect what you have done for us TLers.

Thanks
Joey,

I'm from Toronto also...if you need someone to install this kit I could refer you to a performance shop in Oakville. The guy who works there makes and installs turbo's on a variety of cars. He use to work on turbo's on F1 cars.

I asked him if he would install this kit and he said no problem. He can also make you a kit from scratch but it probably won't be cheaper but you will be able to select all the component yourself. He told me that at $5800 that was a good price for a turbo.

Iif you wanted this kit tuned to a certain level he could do that also. I even discussed the emission part of it as this kit will not pass the test.,...he would fabricate an intake that you can put on quickly that will be able to clear all testing requirements.

I would jump on this kit also however I feel not enough longterm testing has been done. A product like this needs to run alot of miles to see what brakes. Plus I'm not convinced the tranny will hold.

As this car is my daily driver I don't have the luxury to have it in the shop once a month for different issues. This is what he told me to expect from most turbo kits that make this much power. There will always be little thing to fix or adjust, and if you are not mechanically inclined like myself having the car in for repairs constantly is costly and a pain in the butt.

I agree with you 100%. I strongly believe there is a set group in the air that are eager to see exactly what type of power is hidden in our cars, but unable to experiment. Like you, this is my daily driver and I would love to put this turbo kit, but like any daily driver, I cannot afford to have it in the shop. The fact that I would have to take a 3 hour train ride to and from work everyday does not sit well with me.

Innovations like this however, the building of the kit and further advances in the tuning aspect of our cars keep me coming back here. All of these advances has given me a new passion for the car I drive to and from work. I only wait 'til the day I can retire it as my daily driver and be allowed the chance to build and tune it to my liking.

In the Honda/Acura world.....

There are several domestics that can hold 1,000lbs of torque from the factory. Even my weak 200-4R was holding 500lbs of torque with only a shift kit.

Nobody's gonna use that much power anyways. If the wheelspin doesn't kill you from a launch, the torque steer will wrench the steering wheel out of your hands and you'll be in a ditch upside down before your trans can die.

i never said it would handle a 600hp launch.

just that it would handle a peak power of 600hp

If you lose control of a FWD car due to torque steer, you should turn in your license. I think everyone should learn to drive on a high powered RWD car and you'll see that even a 500hp FWD car is beyond easy to control.

You're right that tire spin will limit how much power is actually going through the trans, that's why I made the comment about running a little 135 "donut" sized tire. However, in 4th and 5th, you will have full power going through it. The load is lessened on the axles and differential in the higher gears but not the transmission itself.

You haven't lived until you launch a 600rwhp car for all it's worth with the pedal to the floor. It makes my head spin and I get dizzy. The shift to second gear comes up in less than 1 second and 60mph comes up in barely over 2 seconds. Power plus traction is a lot of fun. With a helmet on it's physically impossible to keep your head off the headrest until you're around 100mph. It literally feels like someone rear ended you at a stop light.

rwd with that kinda power is harder...unless ur an idiot and try to put all the 600 hp down while going into a sharp slow turn with ur fwd car...u shouldn't have a prob going straight with lsd lol...ull either go, or ull just spin and spin and spin.... on a rear wheel, fishtailing comes like you wouldn't believe...a hard launch off a dead stop can get you in big trouble easily...ive seen under 300 hp rwd cars spin out as soon as they got off the line at the track, and no, they couldn't correct it with their steering...

it is harder to perform with a fwd on a track...but its also easy to lose control with a high powered rwd

im at almost 400 hp at the front wheels, and shitload of torque, and i dont have a problem holding it straight...and im sure Rodney will tell u the same about his turbo TL.

its already past the torque steer issue at this point...only thing to worry about is more wheel spin.

That would be neat if your pockets are deep enough. Over--octane it so detonation is out of the equation and let's see just how much power this thing will hold. I predict it will see low 500s for a short time.

Rodney,

wanna test it out on my motor? lol...9.5:1 compression forged pistons...lets boost the crap out of it, i think we can break the 600 barrier.

either way i agree with IHC, however if your gonna do just that, i suggest you get some ARP studs for those heads...i know you would want that as a fuse, rather than break a piston, but 11.0:1 compression is going to create a hell of a lot of goddamn pressure in there lol i just wanna see how much those pistons hold, rather then lifting a head, and im pretty positive, the pistons will give out way before the rods...i trust the rods in the J32

what i dont trust is this below lol

but i trust these....

IHC, notice how they dropped the comp ring lower from the top....these fuckers knew what they were doing lol

Those factory pistons don't look as bad as many. The top ring is actually dropped lower than I thought, especially considering this is a ULEV car and the lower ring doesn't help with emssions. They're not a full skirt but they have most of the skirt. Better than I thought for sure, but definitely not a blower piston.

Are those factory piston skirts coated?

For what it's worth, with the second ring land knocked out but the top of the piston ok, it looks like a failure from detonation. That's exactly how one of my broken forged TRWs looked after the meth nozzle plugged up.

I'm sure those forged ones will take a lot more abuse, you may just have a 600+hp capable bottom end.
