Acura to unveil 2009 RL at Chicago show?
While details still remain somewhat unclear, the new RL will reportedly use a 3.7L V6, good for more than 300 horsepower. And while the current car has been criticized for its front-wheel drive bias — even in SH-AWD guise — the new car is said to send more power to the rear wheels.
The RL will also being wearing new sheet metal, with only two body panels carrying over from the current car.
The new car should offer more interior volume than the current RL, particularly in rear legroom. Sources also say that Acura has ramped up the RL's "bling factor," and has also included new technologies such as real-time weather updates.
Check back for more details next week.

I would expect XM weather for Acuralink would not be as robust as the packages currently offered by XM for marine, air and land units.
An a less robust system may not require additional hardware or the lofty subsciption fees.

Sure, there are cases where the data is old and accidents are already cleared, but I find the same thing happens with radio traffic reporters flying around in helicopters.
But the accident icons give me a heads-up that I wouldn't otherwise have. There have been several cases where I was able to get over in the right lane before a reported accident site and as soon as traffic started slowing I was able to jump off at an exit and skirt the tie-up. And if the info is old and there's no tie-up - great.
I think it's well worth the small charge.

That said, over the past several days I've noticed that a certain section of I96 & M39 that used to always show flow, no longer does. I know the system is working because I am getting flow data on other roads in metro Detroit. I'm hoping it just a case of some sensors being offline.

The Chicago Auto Show has live webcams. We'll get to see the car even before our fellow Chicagoans can post pictures ->

If you go there now, you'll see all of the containers for the displays. Pretty cool.

I checked out that link for the Chicago Autoshow webcam--pretty slick.
What is nice to see is that Acura is in the middle of it all in the luxury brand section of the show--parent Honda is across the way with more mainstream brands, while Acura is right in between Mercedes-Benz and Audi. This seems to be a step in the right direction, and it looks like Acura marketing is finally starting to get the hint; I would imagine it cost Acura top dollar to get a position like that at the show (no matter how small the display may be compared to other brands at the show).
Slow, continuous progress, I suppose. They're taking baby steps--that's better than nothing

Well if the 09 RL, 09 TL and I assume te 09 TSX are to debut at this show, this is an unprecedented opportunity to draw some attention.
I have found Acura displays embarrasing in the past. This may be the opportunity of a lifetime for Acura to address recognition for brand and models.
I am considering hopping a plane to see this show. In typical Honda fashion, they are very closed lipped on model debuts.

I am reading the 2009 RL will be the 1st production vehicle with XM WX...
Here's some description of it's operation and anticipated subscription.
XM WX makes use of a data feed from Weatherworks, a company that provides TV stations with the info they need for their own weather forecasts. The weather information, which is overlaid onto GPS maps in 7-kilometer grids, is updated every 30 seconds. As well as information on real-time weather conditions, XM WX can be used to call up weather forecasts for up to a week ahead. The service will be offered for a price similar to that of XM NavTraffic, which means an approximate $4 monthly premium on the standard XM Satellite Radio subscription fee of $12.95 per month.

Hopefully the speculation of an update DVD will enable it in our RLs?

Check out the schedule here
Since it's in the Acura area, we should be able to see it on the nearby webcam.

That was a hot RL. I wish they'd kept the four-port exhaust and the grille.
However.....the Mugen Legend Max with 500 HP should have been offered by Acura. I would have bought this. THIS is a $55-60k car.

It's Official!!!
02/01/2008 - TORRANCE, Calif. -
The MDX luxury SUV topped January Acura sales for January with 3,982 units; however total Acura sales were 11,168, down 14.2 percent compared to last year.
"With next week's debut of the new 2009 RL at the Chicago Auto Show, we anticipate a substantial boost in Acura interest," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of sales. "The RL, Acura's top-of-the-line sedan, will significantly raise the bar with new technology, additional power and enhanced handling."
January 2008 sales for Acura sedans was led by the TL performance luxury sedan with 3,246 units sold followed by the TSX sports sedan with 2,073 and RL luxury performance sedan with 383 units sold. In addition, the RDX turbocharged crossover SUV tallied 1,483 sales.
*The daily selling rate (DSR) is calculated with 26 days for both January 2008 and January 2007.

agree. It's the Sports 4 concept with some photoshop changes on the grill, etc. The REAL photo of the next TSX was correctly posted by Pinky. It's partially taped, but you can see it's lineage to the current TSX and can definitely see it's NOT the car in that other photo.
Regardless, this is an RL forum. Can't wait for those first shots of the new RL!

Anyone else notice the wheels on that red RL that someone posted links to on the previous page? They are the same design as the accessory RDX and MDX 19" wheels. If you read it close up, they're 20's though. Tire size is 245/40/20. I wonder if you could put the 19" MDX wheels on the current RL. Same bolt pattern, but it's .5 inch wider than the RL wheel. I think it would look great!
