What kind of driving routine do you have? Lots of short trips between warm up can have an effect.

This IS quite an interesting predicament...

The pulley merely "frees up" power that is already there... technically, where as the better flowing exhaust will increase the power. Now, I'm not sure how well that Honda 3.0 responds to exhaust mods, but ours is kinda pointless. We get a handful of hp, but in my mind, exhaust can wait. A pulley will get maybe on avg 7hp to the wheel where exhaust MIGHT come close to that, but I'm not sure. How much power does the comptech exhaust give the 3.0 motor? Whatever that number is, that'll be a pretty close guess.

Exhaust will help top end. The pulley will help the entire power band.

Best bet is to figure which is the best $ per hp.

Good point...

When you start your car, your computer will advance your timing a little to help heat the motor faster. It's a neat little trick. And with the timing advanced, you'll use a bit more gas while driving as your motor is performing at a higher level. That doesn't help all that much... gas mileage wise... hehe

I agree with RUF and Casper on this one: go with the pully for their two reasons. Having done this with headers and intakes, I believe it is true that the same increase in a short power band is not as important as the same increase in a longer power band.

my routine's been the same for a few months now, and I always get around 400 per tank. That's why it's weird that I haven't these last 2 tanks, cause my routine hasn't really changed. I'm gonna try some different gas next fill up.

yep... even when you stop at a light and you're not moving... your RPM's will still be higher simply cause the ECU is also raising your rev to help heat the motor... it's a normal thing... safety shit built into the ECU to help the motor and increase it's life

Damn danny, what type of driving do you do to get this ?
I was amazed that I got 350 on this tank with my headers installed. I usually get around 300-320/tank

I drive 22 miles each way to work and back. Keep the cruise set to about 75 and I would get around 400 or so miles per tank. When I first got my car I would usually get 250-275 miles, but that was a lot of city driving back and forth to school and work that was closer.

I typically get 400+ / tank but I drive almost all highway averaging just under 80mph. It depends a lot on my mood though, cuz regular aggressive stuff will dip it under 400.

Also, up north they put additives in the gas during the winter that I've heard hurts mileage. That may be the cause of some of this discussion.

I probably run my tank down too low, though. I drive so much that I really try to regulate my pit stops.

Speaking of running the tank down too low, why is it that there's no mention of replacing the fuel filter in the maintenance manual? Am I missing something?

i always run it down to the gas light. when I fill up, I generally put in anywhere from 14.3 - 14.5 gallons and run it back down again.... and thats the size of the tank.

In polution non-attainment areas (Dallas, Tarrant, and Collin Counties, for example), they switch to an oxigenated mixture that produces less power but has the characteristics of the octain for combustion purposes...

Now days, fuel filters are built into the gas tank and have some outrageous life expectancy... don't ask me how you replace them, but they're supposed to last forever.

Concerning the gas milage thingie. Most of the mods we have performed on our cars, not including forced induction or N2O, should in fact help your gas milage IF you drive conservativly. I know none of you would do this, wheres the fun in that? But making the engine breath better ie...CIA, headers, better ignition, better air filter, free flow mufflers and CAT should give you better gas milage along with better perfomance.
Now if you start messing with cam timeing, combustion ratios, injectors, fuel rails and the like, and that milage will prolly decrease.

Casper! I need some expertise from you. My daughter drives a 96 I30 that needs shocks. Keep in mind she has no money. Will Maxima shocks of the same year fit her car? Would this save her any money? And would this be a good idea? I have looked at monroes for the front and they are $70 each, but Orialy's said I would have to get the rears from the dealer. You help is appreciated.

Oh! On the fuel filters. Pat at ImSport told me that Honda cars have two fuel filters one in the tank and another on the fuel line in some other place. He said because of this they almost never need replacing.

I love the random nissan questions on here... hehe

ok, here goes... deep breath...

96 I30 = Luxury 96 Max. We all know this. Hell, the I30 seats fit perfectly in the Max and the harness for the power passenger side seats (which were NEVER offered on the max) are on the max. Anyways, that's besides the point. All the suspension is identical! If you want, I know for a fact that monroe makes rear struts for the max... I have one (long story). So, save some money and buy all maxima parts. Even if it has ABS, which was also offered on the Max. That might make a difference on the front struts, but i'm not sure. Whenever you want, bring that baby by, waste a hour and a half bs-ing about painting and i'll have the suspension switched out in that bad boy.
