Microsoft: Windows 7 and Office 2010 Thread
Perhaps a separate thread for this, since my firefox on XP also can't upload pictures. I have to use IE. I'd be interested in a debugging thread on this (although I can tolerate using IE just for that).
There is a new firefox beta out today (with better win7 support).
i'll try that when I get home.

The Platform Update allows application developers to target both Windows Vista and Windows 7. It will consist of the following components:
Windows Graphics runtime: Direct2D, DirectWrite, Direct3D 11, DXGI 1.1, and WARP;
Updates to Windows Imaging Component;
Updates to XPS Print API, XPS Document API and XPS Rasterization Service;
Windows Automation API (updates to MSAA and UI Automation); (will also be available on Windows XP)
Windows Portable Devices Platform; (adds support for MTP over Bluetooth and MTP Device Services)
Windows Ribbon API;
Animation Manager Library.
Some updates will also be available as separate releases for both Windows XP and Windows Vista:
Windows Management Framework: Windows PowerShell 2.0, Windows Remote Management 2.0, BITS 4.0
Remote Desktop Connection 7.0 (RDP7) client;
Windows Web Services API (Native code);
Although extensive, the Platform Update does not bring Windows Vista to the level of features and performance offered by Windows 7. For example, even though DXGI 1.1 update introduces support for hardware 2D acceleration featured by WDDM 1.1 video drivers, only Direct2D and DirectWrite will employ it and GDI/GDI+ will continue to rely on software rendering. Also, even though Direct3D 11 runtime will be able to run on D3D9-class hardware and WDDM drivers using "feature levels" first introduced in Direct3D 10.1, Desktop Windows Manager has not been updated to use either Direct3D 10.1 or WARP software rasterizer.

Nope it's been planned for Vista all along. There's no reason why it can't run on Vista it's just a superset of DX10.1 with a few improvements. While DX10 was a big jump from DX9. Also you can install WDDM 1.1 drivers in Vista and of course install WDDM 1.0 driver in 7. But in Vista you don't get the benefit of WDDM 1.1 drivers but they work. This just makes easier for ATi and Nvidia
I'd at least try installing the XP drivers. We got stogie's soundcard working by installing XP drivers in windows 7. I remember installing XP graphics drivers on Vista in the early days so it's worth a shot especially if you're just gonna can it if it doesn't work.
Yes. and ran as admin, it loads, but then gets a 43 error code...
Lots of thread on it...

I've been running 7 for 2 weeks now. I'm in front of my laptop ~12-16 hours a day, and I must say that the OS is just brilliant...my box was fast before, but Win7 makes it seem so much more responsive. And, I havent had to reboot yet (except when forced to by our IT department pushing down 3rd party apps)

Your P4 3.6 will take it. I've been running it for a year on my 3.2 P4 with 2gb RAM and intel 945 graphics. What is telling you that it won't run? and what is it saying.
That's horse shit! Nvidia has graphics drivers for windows 7 (even 64 bit) all the way back to the 6 series drivers.
"This is a WHQL-certified driver for GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, 100, and 200-series desktop GPUs and ION desktop GPUs."
you can get them from their site here
32 bit
http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7_wi...1.07_whql.html
64 bit
http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7_wi...1.07_whql.html
Like I've said over and over your system will run 7 with no problems
This is my 500th post in this thread!

That's still bullshit. You will have no problem upgrading to 7 cause of your graphic card. It's graphic requirements are the same as Vista and Vista worked on my Nvidia 6800GT which was older than your card and if it works in Vista it will work in 7.
Is there a way to try it w/o buying it first? I don't want to get stuck with it. I can't dual boot, my c drive is only 135gb, two 70gb Raptors. Has less than 40gb open.
yup there's a 90 day free trial of the enterprise edition. you can get that here

OS X does that too right?
sorry I couldn't help myself

Not sure, But it cheap enough that I'd be OK buying it to even try it.
But trying to d/l that is a joke, I have to use IE8, when I did try to d/l it locked up twice with installing the ActiveX for it, when I try to save to HD, it wants to send error report and then won't d/l because there's some other error on the server site.

yes they use a download manager that works only with IE. Hmmm seems as if they're having some technical difficulties. I can't even get past the page that I posted. It can't find the next page, almost like a 404 error.
+1 on something being 'effed with Microsoft's downloads. For the past two days I've been trying to download 2008 Server R2 from my volume licensing site and I never made it past 60% after letting it run all day with the download manager. This morning I tried again with the regular HTTP file download option that's available in the volume licensing site and I got the .iso no problem in just over two hours.
maybe they're getting swamped with people interested in 7? I know myself I was at my non IT job a couple days ago for only an hour and I had 3 people come up and ask me about it. I told them I didn't know anything and hadn't heard of it!
ok so i installed 7 on my laptop off of my old drive and i did custom install. i still have all of my old document files that where on the old OS in windows 7. i kinda wanted them gone so i can start fresh. what happend? kinda boggleing my mind right now
Just delete out the .old directory if you don't want that stuff...It did it incase you wanted it...
Yes if you install Win 7 or Vista on a partition that already has Windows installed on it then it movies all those files into the windows.old folder in case you still wanted those files. You could've deleted the partition from the install cd before proceeding with the install.
i know about the old file, however when i go into my computer i clikcon C drive.
before i numerouse that were random numbers and what not I\398 and bunch of old folders still on windows 7. just odd to be honest. i can go into te windows old file and extrct my documents back out.
i'm just wondering if i can get rid of some of these old file folders. but some of these file folders have data in them and i don't even have that program installed

ummmm maybe but are you really that out of space that you need them deleted? Maybe you should get a bigger drive? Don't be surprised if your PC doesn't boot after deleting those files
