Alright....I'm gonna look real stupid right now....just realized I been running the GPU at the PCIE 3.0 x4 slot instead of the PICE 4.0 x4 slot....so trying to move the GPU over to the 4.0 x16 slot and realized the 3070 wouldn't seat fully into the slot cause damn Gigabyte made the mobo have a weird plastic part that prevevents it from fully seating:
Cause the EVGA 3070 FTW3 card has part of the board that juts out just a bit, circled red....which hits that other part circled red above...and prevents it from being slotted properly into the PICE 4.0 x16 slot.....FML....
Sigh...........not sure if that part of the mobo can be taken out or shaved down.....might need to look at another board....terrible design by GIgabyte on this.....
I was looking and saw that a PICE 3.0 x16 slot is likely not a bottleneck even for a 3070...HOWEVER the slot I'm using seems to be a PICE 3.0 x4 slot...which I assume will be a big bottleneck...x4 vs x16....sigh....
Update. Issue is fixed. I pulled out the mobo and tried to take off that plastic covering.....the main part wouldn't come off but with some screw drivers and lot of tearing and swearing...i basically ripped that plastic piece off and now the 3070 seats properly into the pcie 4.0 x16 slot and is back up and running!!! Woot. FInally. Big design flaw/fail by gigabyte. But is fixed at least
No worries man. Just a weird quirk that sometimes happens...more annoyed that such a big computer part company would make something like that....full knowing that modern GPUs are massive and need as much space as possible. The plastic piece I broke off had NO function whatsoever...there was nothing underneath...as if it is just there to look nice I guess.
Finished my 4th mechanical keyboard.
5 Degree 60% aluminum case in gunmetal.
SA profile Violet pbt caps
Durock v2 smoked stabilizers
DZ60 hotswap PCB
HaluHalo linear switches (4mm travel/ 63.5g bottom out)
Lots of foam from KBDfans (pcb foam, case foam, stabilizer pads, and spacebar foam to reduce the loud hollow SA profile cap sound)
The case is really nice but being an older case it lacks some of the newer features like a nice brass weight but I love it's geometry.
I bought blockers to use as either HHKB style blockers or window keyless blockers but my PCB would not allow them sadly.
SA profile I don't like too much. This was my first time trying them. They feel nice for typing. But IMO they look odd in such a small case being so tall and sculpted. As well being so tall they have a more hollow sound than I prefer... even with all the silencing foam I added. Love the colors though.
Switches are really nice. Linear switches aren't my first choice but these are buttery smooth without using any lube. Stabilizers really needed some dielectric grease. They scratch like crazy without.
Maybe wash your hands before typing on a keyboard? Or at the minimum wipe your dirty ass hands?
Mine aren’t dirty after a year, but if I had to clean it, I’d probably use a light detergent. IPA would probably strip the paint and/or letters.
I also since I got a prebuilt, it came with a plastic cover that I put on my keyboard when I’m not using it or doing something that might cause like crumbs or dust to get in.
How dirty do those things get? How cool do they look after a year of use?
If you have a nice board but use it as a teenage gamer then I imagine it would look gross after a year or more.
For me, since I built it I care about it and I routinely take it apart and clean it off. As well switching out parts is a good excuse to open and clean it. You would be surprised how often new switches are made with different combos of material, spring weights, bump curve, etc etc.
The only part that will truly wear over time are the keycaps. With PBT the plastic wont show wear for many many years. With ABS the caps will start to "shine". This is unavoidable. Some people sell their caps once this happens then go with a new set and look. Others like the look of a used set of caps. Gives them a sort of patinaed look. Ive seen some people pre-shine all their caps so they have an even shine but then they just end up dulling over time.
I will likely retire each build before it has been used 6 months until I reach what I consider an end game. Fingers crossed I already have that ordered in the LW-67 being made right now. In the year I have been in this hobby I have built 4 boards with another 3 on the way so at this rate I am can be swapping keebs every couple months.
In regards to the keyboards, usdmJon's are very pretty but I think I'm going to stick with my Logitech MX Keys. It's a cool hobby, nerding out over minute aspects of keyboard design, but I'm just going to admire from afar. The MX Keys has a number pad (essential for typing in IP addresses all day), backlit keys, and the ability to easily switch between PC and Mac. So while I may lust after that pretty keyboard I know I wouldn't be as productive with it.

How much did that keyboard cost all together?
That is the exact reason I got the Keychron K10 with Gateron red switches. It’s also wireless or can be ran wired.
(I have to run it wired due to the BT USB 3.0 interference issues with Mac Minis ( )
I also got the hot swappable version should I be inclined to change the switches and/or key caps.
For the RGB version at least, they don’t get that bright. Could also be that my Ducky has a white base that helps illuminate the keys better

Believe me... you made a very wise decision and you may not know but your wallet and bank account are extremely appreciative.
Not trying to flex but last night I decided to just go wallow in sadness at a missed Group Buy only to find... they put extras up for sale. Now I'm $240 poorer because I wanted some Cthulhu themed pieces of plastic (which are kinda ugly but I love HP lovecraft and the cthulhu mythos).
So while I love this hobby... the enthusiast call it a rabbit hole for a reason. I could possibly sell them in the future and make 50-100 on my labor (lubing switch takes like 4 hours) but for now I enjoy looking at them. People like Taeha Types charged Tfue (popular fortnite "progamer") $3,500 to build a keyboard. Of course that price includes the keyboard but Tae Ha definitely made a lot of money off that build.
This is Tfue's custom keyboard built by Tae Ha. The keyboard is from a company called KeyCult.
Just watched that video. Interesting. Never knew about these claims against Newegg. Been using them since they just started up.
I just recently had to RMA/exchange the evga 3080 i helped a friend buy. Funny enough my friend contacted them on my behalf and worked out the RMA.
My experience was fine with them.
The board was damaged and wasnt able to slot in unless you used significant force. Newegg couldve easily told us to pound sand and claim we damaged it ourself.
Llnus also discussed Newegg and Gamers Nexus on Friday's WAN show.
I bought one of these for my garage. Upgraded it to a solid state drive, 1 GB of RAM and OS X Tiger. Works great as a jukebox, perfect for older games and sort of runs Youtube reasonably.
But I dont imagine it will really go anywhere. Its obvious Newegg was sketch with their open box sales. Most they can do is sell better open box products with better QC. I doubt they will really go back and replace stuff they previously told people to fuck off about. They would lose so much money doing that.
End of day they could just take the hit from people boycotting for a few months then let it get swept under the rug.
Are you guys watching UFD tech as well?
According to UFD Newegg fucked them two-fold. Newegg signed into a contract for a give-away with a charity event UFD was hosting. After months of Newegg not shipping the prize... then FINALLY shipping it but there was an error so it got sent directly back to Newegg who then just "forgot about it" making UFD pull a CPU out of one of their editing PCs to give to the winner. As well failed to pay UFD for 3 videos they did for Newegg.
UFD was just saying fuck all that noise but once GN started shaming Newegg he spoke up. In response Newegg has decided to pay UFD 3x the amount owed just to basically get him to shut the fuck up.
On another note... I got a new artisan cap to remind me of the GameBoy days.
The monkey is new too. I won it in a raffle. Only entered the raffle because the colors matched and my lucky-ass won.
Deskmat is also new. From the group buy Analog Dreams. I have the matching keyset also but those are being made still.
The thing that struck me right away is that Newegg suffers from the same problem that my employer does. The company I work for is over 100 years old, yet the senior leaders have all been their 2 years or less. They get cycled out every few years when they don't provide any improvement. We have a bunch of lower level people that have been there 10, 15, 20 years that keep the lights on.
The people in this interview...
VP Customer Service 6 months
VP Operations 3 years
Director Public Relations 1 month.
Customer Service lacky, 18 years. (Recently promoted to Director, probably just in time for the interview, lol)
