Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
Apple cops to the fact there are reception issues with the new iPhone
this isnt a case of a few defected phones... its a problem thats caused by an exterior design flaw, which they ALL have.
people are overreacting i agree, but you sound like my friend who acts like his phone pushes through data outtages and bugs when everyone gets them. its a widespread issue, people didnt make it up.
its been pretty much clarified that they ALL do this... it may not affect the way that you hold/use the phone.. but that doesnt mean your phone is immune.

I wonder if his phone has cum stains on the screen.
Jason Bateman -- Out of Line at iPhone Event
Originally posted Jun 24th 2010 3:00 PM PDT by TMZ Staff
Jason Bateman stood in line with roughly 2,000 people hoping to take home the iPhone 4 today -- but his wait ended early, when one Apple employee plucked him out of line and escorted him in to the store.
It's unclear if Bateman took home the phone -- or if he was at the store for another reason -- but it didn't matter to the rest of the crowd, who shouted out some boos as the actor walked inside.
Apple had no comment.

Contemplating upgrading to 4.0 now that the dev team says we 3GS users who jailbroke without spiritjb and have the old bootrom can go forward to 4.0
Not sure I want to use the multitasking feature on 4.0, I believe Backgrounder and Kirikae are both better so I hope I can customize the double tapping home to work on Kirikae like I have it now.

I did the antennae test and I will confirm
that the reception weakens with my hand around the stainless shell. Regardless, this new firmware outperforms 3.1.3 by 100%. However, this reception issue needs to be fixed.

So Apple's response to all this was to say don't hold it that way or buy one of our cases!!

So the solution to the hardware problem that every iPhone 4 has except Sarlacc's is to buy a case or not hold it in a natural way!!!
I being left handed this way is the most comfortable to me and I refuse to have to pay for a case because of design decision that cripple's the phone's capabilities when held in a natural way!

Gripping any mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.

i agree - while it may be a problem for many, it's not a problem for all. I got mine last night and have tried holding it in every conceivable position and was only able to get it to drop 1 bar (left or right). this thing blows the shit outta my 3g, upgrade is worth every penny.
