Quote: My beef is signal, it switches to edge and sometimes signal all together. At first I was thinking it was AT&T's network, but a blackberry on AT&T right next to the iPhone gets plenty of signal. Otherwise the device is pretty sweet.
Yea, I've heard of the signal problems. One of my other friends that has the 3G iphone has been complaing about since he got his a couple weeks ago.

I remember he was at my house the week after and was on the phone with his fiancee and kept losing his signal while on the call over and over again.

My gripe is the battery life. I have updated to version 2.1 so I can't imagine how it would be on the previous version. I charge my phone everyday.

It was either a car charger or a leather case? I chose the case. Fucking Apple has to get more money from us since they didn't include the car charger.

Apple isn't the only one that doesn't include car chargers. Nearly all other phone manufacturers don't include them. But they all do come with a standard home/rapid charger. Point is, if you're going to be on the go, you can't only blame battery life when it can be fixed by buying a car charger. And they aren't that expensive. $20-$30 for a charger that you're going to use for a year or two isn't that bad IMHO, especially if it makes things easier for you. When i got my Spring PPC-6700 i picked up a charger for work and a car charger. Battery problems fixed. Sure some phones have better standby time than others, but for the most part. Most phones these days are pretty good about battery life.

If you are looking for a place that sells OEM accessories for REALLY cheap, check out wirelessground.com I've bought from them a couple times and their prices are very reasonable and they send out coupons from time to time too.

and as for switching between 3G and Edge...just shut off 3G. I know it's not optimal and it shouldnt be that way, but if you dont want to drop calls, SHUT OFF 3G.

Fucking Canadians.

I didn't say they should have came with both the car and home charger. I rather that they came with the car charger instead of the home charger. Which are under recall btw. There already is an usb cable that you can use to charge on the computer.

You kinda have a point though. Since this thing is made to be used with a computer you don't need a wall outlet to charge at home so it might make more sense to provide a car charger instead. I still use the wall outlet though cause it provides a quicker charge than the PC.

Well I did the update but I thought I read somewhere that there would be an option to have the phone vibrate more than once when a text message is received, or am I mistaken?

Another thing that bugs me is the inability to only get a notification of a text when using the phone instead of having the whole message visible. Last thing with SMS, it would be nice to be able to pick and delete certain texts without wiping out the whole conversation.

Another thing, I can't set my custom ringtones to the text notification tones?

I have noticed that I pick up more 3G at home, I use to only get a couple of bars at best. Battery life seems a lot better also... charged up yesterday afternoon and I still have more than half battery reading after using safari on wi-fi for an hour or so now.

Overall a good phone so far, I've been able to put the fact that I can't be logged into AIM permanently out of mind for now but it gets to me sometimes... Hope apple/aol are working on it.

SMS does the initial alert...then vibrates and chimes twice more over a period of time if you do not touch or "answer" the phone.

SMS deleting...it was the same way with the treo, doesnt bother me.

Being able to set other sounds besides just ringtones tones...I WISH....everyone here has a iphone...when someone gets a text we all think its us, annoying.

Oh yeah I just realized thats why I didnt see two texts when it vibrated a second time yesterday. It would be nice to have it vibrate a few times on the initial alert since its hard enough to feel the phone vibrate when its ringing on an incoming call.

What treo? I had a 700p (sprint) and in the conversation view I could tap on a text and it would bring it up alone and from there I could hit delete and it would be gone.

I'm starting to think the short vibration is a result of the short alerts that are available in the text message tones. Just a small inconvenience I guess.

^ Wrong thread!

In regards to 2.1 I'm STILL having issues with safari crashing all the time. AZ loves to crash Safari, it seems as if I'm viewing a page with a lot of pics it's doomed to crash and will consistently last less than a minute before crashing. With pages without alot of pics it takes longer to crash but it still does. Also I notice I have serious keyboard lag while writing posts with it on AZ. Other than Safari still sucking everything else is pretty good. But since I use Safari more than other apps it's quite annoying.

^thats the only one that has crashed my phone consistently, others that crash the phone once usually load up on a second try. I also dont expect the phone to load up massive pages either.

Try going to the PGT or Funny pics thread where there's a lot of pics and not just PWing and browse it for a couple minutes. I can barely get the page to load before crashing. Also engadget and gizmodo crash often.

It lasted less than a minute on that page. I don't expect it to load massive pages either but I'd like more stability when viewing an average webpage. Engadget only has 15-20 pics on it and they aren't big.

Maybe you should change the amount of posts per page? It might help...

Go to "Your Account", then "Edit Options"

Under the "Thread Display Options" section, you can change the "Number of Posts to Show Per Page".

I think the default is 40 now. Try changing it to 25.

Edit: This suggestion is for AZ, not Engadget.

Not a bad idea but I think I'll just avoid viewing those threads on my phone. but its not just those threads even threads with few or no pics do it.

well I just loaded a few pages on engadget and gizmodo so no problems there for me, I also loaded a couple of PGT pages no problem...

Is there an easy way to get to the bottom of pages without having to scroll so much? (Kind of like there's a short way to get to the top)

It doesn't always crash everytime I view those pages. No shortcut that I know of. Be careful with that shortcut to the top I accidentally hit that while viewing on pg 110 of a 200+ pg PDF and it immediately scrolled all the way up to page one! So I had to scroll through 110 pages cause the links to certain pages in the ToC of the PDF didn't work on the iPhone (strangely they work for word documents). IDK if that's been fixed but it needs to be.

^that's a good one!! I made a couple Fischerspooner ringtones from Happy and Turn on. I've used those for over two years and they still don't get old. Then I make personal ringtones for certain friends but not everyone. I'm thinking of use Fischerspooner Emerge for one friend and for my brother change his to Moby Extreme Ways (bad ass for a ringtone).

I use the beginning of Happy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SdqLv0xLZw

I use 30 secs from 3:00 and after from Turn On
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eu8-ZAKGp2A

Then I use Emerge (awesome song and video)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlJHotXleW8

Then I'm gonna use the beginning of Moby Extreme Ways

Does anyone know if my iPhone will still work after the contract ends? I've given up on using it as a browser. Most of the time Safari works fine but for no reason, out of nowhere it'll get all screwy and crash and/or take FOREVER to load a page, this being WITH wi-fi connectivity. Another thing that pisses me off is when my computer's off and I try to use the built-in weather app and it says "update failed" when I'm only a room away from the damn router.

oh and I use the Hell March song from C&C: RA, from 0:32 and on for my ringtone

I have the 1st gen iPhone and I love the damn thing, but I've never had any problems whatsoever like you seem to be having. I am on my second iPhone because my first one, the whole bottom half of the screen was frozen and black, therefore i wasnt able to answer calls, answer texts, or any of that. I took it into Apple and they gave me a new one for free. my Safari crashes too every once in a while. When loading a new page, it will exit back to the phones main menu. When on vibrate, when i answer an incoming call and im talking to the person, my phone is still vibrating like i havent answered the call and i cannot make it stop vibrating until i turn off the phone. i love the phone to death, ive gotten used to it, but those little problems drive me crazy.

The best bet for you is to take it to Apple and see what they say. I am sure you have already done so though

I have a question about text msg alerts. On my phone if I get a txt and don't unlock the phone to view, it's makes the notification sound again after like 2 min. It never used to do this until I updated to the newest firmware a few weeks ago, and I can't seem to find a setting anywhere in the menu's to change this behavior, has anyone else noticed this or know how to fix it?

I know exactly what you are talking about. I think they did that in the last software update to just remind you that you have a unread text. I am not able to find a setting for it whatsoever. I think its pretty annoying. I am hoping in the next software update that they give an on/off option to it.

Just picked up the 3G this Friday - liking it so far. The interface is much faster than I expected and I absolutely love the app "AroundMe".

Two gripes that have been stated time and time again, no MMS (not a major deal) and no video recording.

Other than that, battery life has been on par with my BB Curve.

Question - are there any good, hopefully free, organization programs that I can make notes for myself and be alerted if it's due (like the tasks in MS Outlook)?
