dude that street view is some creepy shit!!! I think I was out washing my car when they drove by!!! I can also tell that I didn't have my rims on my car yet, I was still on stock rims at the time so it was at least 2 years ago that they drove by.

Glad you did!!! How's 2.2 running so far? I'm waiting on the jailbreak bridge before I step up to 2.2 so I couldn't officially guide you step by step...Just curios Chrome, what are the steps to get it going?

2.2 is officially the bom!! They vastly improved the stability of Safari, I haven't had it crash yet. I can go to the hotchickswithdouchebags thread and even though there's a lot of pics it won't crash. Also when you hit the button in the forum that takes you to the new post it actually takes you to the new post instead of the top of the page that the new post is on!! All this phone needs is copy and paste, the storm has it and it's multi touch so why not the iPhone? I'm becoming happier with this phone, I was thinking of ditching it but hopefully now that the storm is out it will get Apple of their asses and give the people the things they've been asking for ever since it came out.

just gotta place a pin in maps and press the little person icon then it brings you to street view. if there is no icon then street view is not available for that location

Here's my first post from 2.2..... So far so good. No crazy lag like before. The system feels like my 1.1.4 firmware so far. The best test is to play your music then surf Acurazine and post
When I would do this on 2.1, the experience was unbearable at times

I'm back on the notebook again but man! I'm loving this 2.2 firmware update. Its runs so smooth.
This is how the iPhone's supposed to act. Its how it was when 1.1.4 came out....refined
My keyboard doesn't lag for no reason anymore....Sweet. Safari hasn't crashed yet either...so far its made it through the pretty girl thread and unscathed while listening to music and posting etc!
It passes my test

What Would Don Draper Do?
i dunno if v6cord2k5 is thinking of the same thing, but i don't want people to see my text messages on the first screen (the one with the earth).
right, now i have it set up where i have to enter a password to get to the home screen (with all the apps). so now, when i get a text, it just says "text message received" on the earth screen.
otherwise, it'll show the majority of the text message and the sender.

Settings--->General--->Passcode Lock--->Create a passcode if you have not already--->De-select "Show SMS Preview"
Does that help?

yea that's what i have now.
so it'll just say "text message received" on the earth screen instead of showing the whole message.
but i can live with that, i guess.

OFFICIAL 3G, Firmware 2.2 battery life request section of this thread!!!!!!
Nice.... ok here's a little project I've been working on today...here goes
I got my iPhone 3G last Tuesday. Restored to 2.1. Jailbroke it. Used Gevey to unlock and I was in business.
Hated the lag while posting on forums such as this. Hated the battery life. (Almost depleted at a rate 2x as fast as my old 1st gen)
Did the update to 2.2 safely using the new Pwnage tool. After 2 full charge/usage cycles, take a nice look at that battery life. This was taken this morning.
As you can see, I've done a nice share of talking. Not too much EDGE usage but I did do A LOT of wifi surfing (more than 2 hours consecutively) yesterday. Most while simultaneously chatting away on the phone
All I have to say is my battery life doubled. There was no way I would have pulled this off last week.
Those of you on the fence wondering if battery life is an issue with a jailbroken 2.2 iPhone...need not worry. It is safe to update ( follow the instructions from dev team
STATS:
Wifi on 85% of the time
Location off
Fetch off
Brightness about 40% (Auto off)
Bluetooth off for this full charge cycle
If you have battery life info and pics you'd like to share, please do so. I'd like to see what other people are getting whether you're jailbroken or not
Thanks in advance

seizure force field!
iTrader: (1)
No. I already have that set up but it only solves half the issue. If you have the phone unlocked and you're browsing the interweb, using a game app, using basically anything in the phone... and a text message is received, the whole message is slapped right in front of everything for anyone who is using the phone to see.
If Apple could solve that issue and include an extra option to lock SMS all together I would be just about 100% happy with this phone since I found a way around AIM that let's it work 100% of the time

if you're still using the phone (browsing, games, apps, etc) and you get a text message, the whole message still appears.
only when the phone is turned off will you just the "new text message received" popup (on the earth screen).

2.2 is awesome. I am full jailbroken and upgraded. The phone is running great. Internet seems faster, pages load quicker. And applications have no lag at all, combine that with orb and i also have live tv all the time.

That was uncalled for...
I'm liking 2.2 so far. No crashes in Safari, better app store, other little fixes, Streetview is cool with the touch screen and Google Maps is SO much quicker in 3G now... I can hardly tell a difference between Wi-Fi and 3G in Google Maps...

Question: How do you enter a tilde "~" into the address bar in safari on the iPhone? It's a legit character to be used in url's but I can't figure out how to enter one. It sux cause everytime I have to enter in a web address it's got a ~ in it. It's available in for sms but not web addresses.

thanx!! I was doing the trick of holding down the keys like with the letters if you hold down "e" it pops up like 5 different variations of it but it didn't know about the shift key trick.

so I kinda fucked up my phone today. I was looking at it and I saw a little crumb or something stuck in the crack in between the glass screen and the chrome edge. So I took a toothpick and ran it in between to get it out, it worked. After that I figured I'd go around the whole screen and get out whatever other dirt there was stuck in there. I've always done this with my last phone, my game console remotes or TV remotes and never had a problem. Well as I was doing this around the screen it became difficult at one point and I thought to myself that it must've been dried up BBQ (I work in a BBQ restaurant and sometimes I can get a little on the phone) so applied a little more force and then it started moving again but I noticed that what I thought was BBQ was the rubber gasket going around the glass screen and I had ripped it with the toothpick. It was now poking up all busted and what not above the screen so I had cut it off and now I have a broken gasket one a part of the screen. I've learned my lesson and will leave it alone. To clarify I DID NOT apply alot of force nor did I jam the toothpick deep into the crack, actually the toothpick was a little thick I was thinking I needed something a little thinner to get all the way in there. Anyways, it looks normal now and you can't tell that 1/2 an inch of gasket is missing on one side.
I thought I'd tell y'all so you don't mess yours up like I did.
