Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
OK, here's an utterly stupid question. Does the 3G S actually have the exact same exterior dimensions as the 3G? It seems to be a safe assumption but I have yet to see anything that explicitly confirms this. I don't want to buy a 3G case for my new phone only to find the camera or volume control holes are off by a millimeter or two.
BTW, I have a 3G S reservation at my local retail store. I'm debating if I want to tempt the potential crowds and try picking it up on my way home from work Friday night or wait until some time over the weekend.

The gallery pictures on Apple's site seem to show the silver trim ring and look pretty shiny.

Hmm...interesting. I watched a video from Apple a month ago that showed the new iPhone without the silver trim ring and more of a eurothane case-so it isn't as slippery. I guess we'll see what happens with it on Friday.
There were rumors of a matte black case with a black bezel. There were even pictures on the rumor sites of the back of the case.
But nothing was ever confirmed...and there is no waiting until Friday, we already know its the same case choices. white or black with a silver bezel.
I'll have to post it later when I get home.
OK I have wood now, Tethering is now working for me, and it's fast. You can also tether while making a voice call
I even gave downloading a torrent a shot, and was able to hit 240kbs after I ended my voice call. I was also able to use my macbook as an access point and add other laptops to the network to share the connection. I'm lovin' it.

for me when i answer a call using the steering wheel buttons it answers and then just hangs up the call, and then when i dial out a call instead of using the handsfree link it uses the phone instead.
the only way i can get around this is when i make a call is to goto the audio source setting and tell the iphone to use "handsfree link" as the audio source after the call has connected, its kind of annoying because there is like a brief couple second pause when i cant hear anything but on the other end of the line they know the call has been answered.
and then when i receive a call, i answer it with the iphone and then on the iphone itself tell it to use handsfree link as the audio source

pretty much i have to manually tell the iphone to use handsfree link as the audio source everytime.
first things first make sure you have your import settings as AAC not mp3.
goto "edit" > "preferences" > general tab > import settings > import using AAC encoder > ok > ok
ok now on any song, right click on the track in itunes, and then goto "get info"
goto "options"
and then where it says "start time" and "stop time" put in the values of where in the track you want the ring tone to be, iirc it can be only 30 seconds max. also make sure the check boxes are checked.
ex. if you want the first 30 seconds of a song put in 0:00 as the start time and 0:30.00 as the end time.
if you want it to start from 1 minute 37 seconds into the song put in 1:37 as the start time and 2:07 as the end time, it also doesnt have to be exactly 30 seconds it can be shorter, but not longer.
click "ok"
then right click on the same track and goto "create AAC version"
it will then make a copy of the song and it will show up in the library as a 30 second track.
then right click on the newly created file and then goto "show in windows explorer"
it will then open up where the file is located.
go back to itunes and then remove the 30 second track from the library "right click" > "delete" > remove > keep file
go back to windows explorer and then on the file change the file extension from "m4a" to "m4r"
ignore the warning where it says the file may become unusuable by clicking "yes"
then double click on it, and bam, it shows up in the ringtones area where you can now drag and drop it into your iphone.
ohh yea dont forget to go back to the original song in your music library and uncheck "start time" and "stop time" otherwise you will only hear that section you cut out for the ring tone.
that wasnt so hard now was it?
