Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
I finally updated to version 2.2.1, but I have two problems that I didn't have before the update. I couldn't delete the photos I took with Snapture from the photo album. I had to delete them through SSH. Another problem that relates to the photos is that it won't save the images that were downloaded from safari. Please tell me this isn't what they did with 2.2.1 that is causing this?
you have a jailbroken phone and you're wondering if it's a problem with Apple's firmware?
that's some good logic you've got there!
It does screw the SW a little, but I don't know of a better way to quickly check/response to mail without having to:
turn on phone--->slide to unlock-->open mail--->open account--> open inbox-->open message
Intelliscreen puts the viewable message right on the lockscreen.
If you have a recommendation, I'm all ears.
Edit: The iPhone is my mobile device for my work e-mail, so quick, efficient responses are needed sometimes. I'm not talking about goofball messages to my buddies.

^^ yep, get a Blackberry for work. I can't imagine using the iPhone as a work only device. Horrible. That said, just keep yourself in your work email inbox to remove several of those steps.
Yea, I have a Curve in my desk draw. I can't stand it. It bored me to death. I also don't like carrying the extra device. The slight slag I've seen from IS isn't worth carrying around the Blackberry and iphone to me. IS basically gives you the same e-mail functionality as the BB, without putting me to sleep.

please don't ban me
i hope they improve the reliability of their products...
my 2g touch: keeps freezing
sister's 2g touch: random crashing of incl apps
friend's MB pro #1: failed cd drive, sound card, power supply...
friend's MB pro #2: free after warranty replacement a la 2G TL trans, starting to act weird
i like apple products but wish they would put more emphasis on reliability...until they do hard to get an iphone as my main cell phone

You had to know we'd see a flurry of iPhone rumors and news as the Apple community reacted to the Pre's official price and launch date, and right on schedule, we've got whispers that Cupertino's next handset will be announced at WWDC, feature an OLED display and a glowing Apple logo, and launch on July 17. There's also a longer list of detailed specs, but for the most part they're just a combination of that matte black casing leak from February and those Chinese specs from last week. So are they the real deal? Well, the source and the site they're on seem a little shaky to us, but the specs themselves don't seem too far-fetched -- OLED screens are getting cheaper and more prevalent, and we're almost certain to see bumps in camera resolution and storage, so even if they are totally made up, we'd venture to guess they're more right than wrong. That's just us, though -- check out the full spec list after the break and tell us what you think.
So, this is sort of fun. The leaked photo above appears to be of a new iPhone back -- in matte black. Sure, we have to be highly suspicious of all kinds of purported evidence of new products in general, and we've heard enough crazy Apple rumors over the years to fill an issue of US Weekly. Regardless, this one's worth at least considering: it's got a model number, A1303, that's previously unseen, but has all the other requisite data, including FCC ID numbers, that we've grown to know and love on the back of real, actual, undoctored iPhones. Look, it's probably fake. Discuss.
Update: Some more pics have surfaced -- check one after the break and the other at MacRumors. Seems a bit early for these sorts of leaks to us, but crazier things have happened.

Not sure how much bigger it makes the phones...but the last email I got from apple (today) was for iphone stuff and they had a case with an extra battery built in...and it actually draws on the battery before going to the main batt.
Seemed pretty cool.

John Gruber over at Daring Fireball has a pretty good track record when it comes to Apple rumors -- remember his spot-on predictions for the unibody MacBook Pro? -- so when he's got a thing or two to say about all the next-gen iPhone chatter, we listen. While not making any promises, he does say he'd wager quite a bit on a new model coming to WWDC, with about twice the CPU horsepower (and possibly twice the RAM, too) as the current model. He also adds some credence to all that talk of video recording, but makes no mention of potential background apps and plays down any surprise tablet or "iPhone mini" cameos. He goes on to add release date would be sometime in July in 16GB and 32GB varieties. We can't say we're willing to bet against him, but that doesn't mean we'll take his word as gospel. We can safely say, however, that we're anxiously waiting to see what kind of shenanigans Schiller has in store for next month.
It's alot better than it was when OS 2.0 first came out. I'm pretty much satisfied with this phone finally, especially now that C&P and mms are coming soon. I just hope I don't have to go through the myriad of problems I went through when OS 2.0 first came out.
New iPhones approved in capacities from 4GB up to 32GB?

I had fun with it.
