Come join us in the 21st century. It's pretty nice here.
But I like having something tangible.
I like the sensory experience of flipping through records, pulling out an album, carefully removing the record from its sleeve, placing it onto the platter, and placing the needle onto it to hear the music come alive.
Am I the only one here who enjoys doing this, and being able to hold the sleeve in your hands to look at the album art and read the liner notes and lyrics? There's also that smell you get when you open a record.

BUT, thats for your home. For the gym, car, etc...you can't really do that with vinyl. And CDs are just a waste of materials at this point.

But aside from a cassettes having a "nostalgic" sound to some...its dynamic range is far inferior to a CD.
I'm glad to leave them behind. I would like to one day have the space to have a record player again with some select vinyl. Im probably the last generation who had vinyl before cassettes.

coincidence
I just happened to have picked up a car that has a tape player in it.
and, I was tongue-in-cheek about the sound quality. it does have a smooth feel to it but clarity and definition wise it's not as good as CD etc.

Well vinyl and CD have different sound qualities. I wouldn't say CD's are a waste yet since streaming/mp3's are still inferior. But then again I'm not a sound engineer.

I still have about 125 vinyl records, probably about 50-60 cassettes and about 1200 CDs. I haven't listened to the vinyl or cassettes in years and years. I'll listen to some CDs every once in a while, but the iPod is much more convenient.

I should try to sell them the dozen or so old cassettes I still have. Might get enough for a nice lunch/dinner.

I fucking hate CD's. I bought a brand new CD since it came with the concert Blu Ray and after like a month it skips occasionally.

I want minidisc to come back.
And iTunes royally screwed up the library when I had Match before. Hope there's not a repeat.

Yea.. the new itunes update ROYALLY FUCKED UP my library. No more songs show. Some that do show have no artists or album names or no track names. It constantly freezes.

Well I don't think the damage was AS BAD as I thought, but still bad.
For starters, it wiped out all my personalized playlists and deleted all songs from itunes (THANKFULLY it didn't delete them from my computer).
I had to re-add the songs to itunes. After that, it fucked up about 200 of the songs (ie. no artist or album or genre info). Not too bad considering I have 3910 songs. But still a pain in the fucking ass because I spent so much time working on my library getting it how I wanted it.

I've been reading of even worse reports from people... saying the new apple music completely scrambles all their music..
ie: song title is Viva La Vida (artist should be Coldplay) but says artist is The Beatles, album artwork attached to it is from System of a Down, and the song that plays is one from Garth Brooks.
I've read that it's possible... although kind of a hassle.. to go back and use a previously saved library before it got all screwed up. I will have to look at that.

I'm pretty sure that iTunes behaves like Zune in that both have a local database of metadata that is initially populated from the physical files, then augmented from online sources. As long as your physical files have the correct metadata embedded, you should just be able to wipe out your library and reimport the files which should read the proper metadata again.
Now if iTunes committed the library changes to your files, which I'm not sure it does unless you explicitly say to, then you have a lot of cleanup ahead.

iTunes ver. 12.2.1 with bug fixes is out. Try updating to see if it fixes your problems.

I installed the new update. As far as I'm concerned, it didn't 'help' me at all. I guess it helps the people who use Apple Music or downloaded their music from the Apple store.
All my music is not from there. And backdating it to a previous library would be from a long time ago. I did back up most of my music to an external HD but all the dates are jacked up so I wouldn't know what to add and what not to.
So I have about 170 songs to listen to and add back all the pertinent info to.. artist, title, album, track, album cover.
And of course re-create my playlists.
I still say .. fuck you apple.

Thinking about getting an iPhone again after a 4-year hiatus.
How has iOS 8 been over time? I know the wifi bugs were fixed, at least. I really like Android but lately I've been tired of their (and Samsung's) shit.
Also are 3rd party keyboards better now? I need my swiftkey learned words and gesture typing.

Honestly my biggest gripe with iPhone and iOS is the lack of memory. I think a bump up to 2GB or more would solve most of my annoyances.
That and general bug fixes.

I do multi-task/split-window occasionally. Weren't there rumors that the next iPhone would have that capability? Can't remember if that was for the 6/6+ or not.

Rumors for next iPhone peg RAM at at least 2GB.
The split window multi task right now is only for iPad Air 2, not sure if iPhone will get it.
(Maybe 6S Plus only? )

Re: RAM
Apple has always been a company that has focused on efficient usage of memory in terms of the complete picture. Rather than dump 16GB of RAM or whatever into their devices they focused on streamlining the pipes and channels to get the best performance out of the least memory.
Curious what RAM issues are you having with your phone? Apple devices have automatic memory management built-in where it helps keep tabs on those kind of things.
