If you have an iPhone 5s...and an apple watch...can you use the NFC feature on the apple watch?

 

My guess is that the CC is stored in the Passbook of the Iphone 6 (with NFC). Not sure if the watch has the NFC in it.

Still not sold on the watch. Most of the features seem to be in there because they can. You can look at your photos on your watch! Ok, a few minutes ago you were telling me I had to get this new big screen iPhone because my photos will look so amazing on it, why would I want to view them on a 2 inch screen instead? Just because I can? Movie reviews on a 2 inch screen? Why? Ok, I could ask Siri about a movie on the watch and it will be on my phone when I look at it but why not just take out my phone and do the whole task there instead of getting a 2nd device involved and switching between them? Because you can? No, thanks.

I didn't get the sense that much of the things they showed was easier than on the phone. Remember that interacting with this watch will often require both arms to use. One for it to be wrapped around and the other hand to interact with it. You can one hand operate a phone, and if you have to use two hands on a phone I think it's more comfortable and natural to do that than hold your wrist up to your face for extended periods of time. Are people going to be walking around staring at their wrists with their elbows sticking out, doesn't seem comfortable.

The watch was always a glance at device, this can be but a lot of the features require more than a glance, and I'm not sure that UX is going to better than doing the same thing on your phone. I think after a while that people will want to go back to completing the same tasks on their phones due to the bigger screen which shows much more info without having to swipe around or jog dials due to the watches small screen. You will have to have both devices near you for the watch to work so while there may be situations where it's quicker to use the watch (no more running across the room to answer your phone (but now the call is on speaker)) I'm not sold that that's the case for most situations.

Are people comfortable talking to Siri in public? That's one of the main ways of interacting with this watch, to respond to a text or issue a command you're going to have to talk to your wrist in public. Are you going to look as dumb as someone using an iPad to take a photo doing that? Isn't this one of the reason's that Siri still hasn't come to the Mac? FYI, I don't think anyone's going to want to use Cortana on Windows 9 either, seems like another just because you can feature.

The only things that interested me was the health stuff but that's already done by fitness bands and they're cheaper and get better battery life than this thing, and will integrate with the health app and m8 processor too.

I guess I want to see more but still not sold yet on this watch or smart watches in general...

 

Funny...people complained about the same thing with the iPad...and I said it will be the apps that make it.

And this will be the same thing.

Except this already has value for me. I travel to a new city for work and Im walking around exploring (like I did in chicago twice in a month) and its not the safest thing walking around with your phone out giving you directions looking like a tourist, it makes you a target. Their GPS function with directional haptic touch is just brilliant, and I don't people realize how much.

NFC pay...leave your phone in your pocket/purse use you watch.

At the gym, leave my phone in my bag, use the watch for music ( I use bt headphones anyway)

Im on set...I don't want to carry these new larger phones all day while moving heavy gear around...I leave the phone on my cart or in my bag...but still get all my info on my wrist.

Im sold.

 

The iPad displays more info than the iPhone and is more comfortable to use than a laptop and for some can replace a laptop. This watch displays much less info than the phone and I think in most situations for most people isn't a better device to use than a phone and can't replace your phone.

Just restored my iPhone. Hopefully the battery life is improved.

Got the IOS GM on both Ipad and Iphone now, seems good.

Now wondering if it really makes sense to have an Iphone 6 plus and an Ipad mini. I use the Mini in bed to read, but now not sure.

 

As far as the usability of the watch, Im sold only because I love my Pebble. I think this will be a nicer pebble more or less.

 

That's what I was thinking too if I got the bigger phone...if I did go with the 6 Plus I'd sell my Mini and get myself an iPad Air probably. They're $439 on Amazon right now for a black 16GB.

But I think I'll wait till they update the iPad again.

 

The watch will definitely work for you, since your in the apple ecosystem. The watch wouldn't work for me, since I don't wear watches anymore.

Actually the 5s is still more than enough for my use. I do like that the 6 is bigger and a better processor though. I still don't know why apple still sells products that come with 16gb. Why not start out as 32gb or even 64gb as entry-level. Files are getting big as shit.

The first gen of the watch most likely won't be an overwhelming success, but it will draw enough interest from developers and early adopters to fund development in future generations which will eventually lead to stand alone devices that don't a cell phone.
I really like what Apple is doing with regard to the different sized devices available. Some people may choose to wear the Apple Watch, carry a 6+, and use a MacBook Pro, or skip the watch and just use a 6 with an iPad Air. I know Android has given it's user base plenty of these options so it's about time Apple did as well.

 

A friend of mine brought his new Samsung phone to the caribbean with us. It was waterproof. So we started taking photos under water. Amazing phone!

 

I'm sticking with using an 9.7" iPad along with my iPhone and desktop Win7 PC. The larger screen for my use can't be beat by a 5.5" in screen.

If I had an iPad mini thou, then if probably sell it.

 

Yea I wouldn't mind a water proof phone, always nervous I'll drop my phone into the pool/toilet/ocean/lake.

 

I'm pretty tired of hearing these types of arguments from Android guys. Google and Apple simply have different approaches and neither is wrong. Google invents a ton of different products, throws them at a crowd and waits to see what will stick. Because of this they have a ton of failures but are always setting trends. Apple waits until they get products close to perfect and deliver a polished user experience however it takes them freaking forever. I have appreciation for both and often think about switching back to Android and all the tools that Google offers for free.

Agreed. I'll likely get the 6, a new iPad (hand mine down to my wife), and keep using my 2010 MBA.

 

It's very easy to manage on a PC. You just hook up the phone, open the file browser, and with a few mouse-clicks you can move all the photos/videos right off to a hard drive. You can do this on a Mac too, right? Hardly a reason to get a phone that has 128GB, unless you WANT to also be frustrated when it comes time to do anything with that sum of data, down the road.

 

You obviously didn't read the posts I made later about about me already copying my stuff to my hard drive as a backup. But I like keeping my pics and videos on my phone to look back at a later time. I don't want to always have to run back to my desktop to look at my old pics and videos I took.

er, you like having your phone's memory maxed out with photos and videos. hey, personal preference. I like having lots of room free.

 

I want lots of room free too. Hence why I want a bigger phone, I don't plan to fill it up, unless I shoot a lot of pics and videos .

It's just how i use MY phone

 

I went out and bought a Western Digital 1TB My Cloud drive a few weeks ago for this very reason. They have an easy to use app and you have all the access you want to old pictures at any time. It took about 5 minutes to setup on my iPhone, my wife's iPhone, my iPad, my MBA, and my wife's Windows 7 laptop.

 

Thought about this, but then I'd have to carry around and charge yet another device.

I just like carrying my photos and videos to look back at and not have to worry about cell reception, setting up and carrying another device, etc.

No, the device connects via ethernet to your home router and you have access to all the storage via your iPhone or any other mobile device. The point is that you have 1TB of storage at your fingertips without having a full iPhone. It's like having everything on My Cloud or Dropbox except it's private and you don't pay a monthly fee for it.

Just re-read your post, and yes you would have to worry about having a connection to the net. My bad on that part.

 

I think the watch is going to be a runaway hit. Especially since Apple is catering to the more executive crowd with the "Edition" model. Something none of the other smart watch makers have tried to do yet.

I agree the Watch is gonna be a huge hit. The video already shows so many ways in which it's going to enhance our lives. And in the end, isn't that what technology is about?
