Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
I have a process question for you guys...basically, will the Apple store be able to do this or will the wife and I have to visit the Verizon store first.
Both my wife and I have the 4S. I am eligible to upgrade now and will to the 5S once it hits the stores. My wife is not eligible to upgrade until mid-next year. She wants my phone since it’s a 32 GB and hers is a 16 GB.
Providing the Apple store has the 5S in stock: will we be able to walk into the Apple store, “switch” the phones, and then trade-in/recycle the 16 GB for a 5S?
Or will we need to visit the Verizon store first to “switch” the phones?

I was easily able to get online last night and order a 5C from ATT and the Apple store...if I had wanted.
Apple confirmed....online ordering for the 5S begins at 12:01PT on the 20th....or in store starting at 8AM. With supplies expected to TIGHT.

How does iOS7 compare to 6 on your iPad? All I keep reading on MacRumors is that it cripples the iPad 3 and that the GM is much more of a beta. On my iPhone 5 I've been running all the betas and the GM runs pretty much flawlessly. I don't really feel the need to upgrade to a 5S but my friend already says that he's getting it

No performance issues. You have to be careful what people say about a beta version of iOS because technically they are running apps not built against iOS7 and that can cause problems that aren't necessarily a fault of iOS7, but because the api the app needs has changed. Until the final version of iOS7 comes out and developers update their apps for iOS7, it's hard to know if the fault is on the OS or the App.
Thing is when I stood in the line for the 4...because apple's servers screwed the pooch for pre-ordering...The apple store I went to didn't follow apple protocol and I ended up standing in line WAYYYYYY longer than I should have...and fuck me if I wasn't in line a long time....
And I never want to do it again.
But...I'm also guessing the servers are going to fuck a lot of us over again come midnight (or 1or 2am whenever they actually get it running)
And if supplies are tight...how long will it take to build up a good stock so there isn't ridiculous waiting periods.
This is the part of the apple game the pisses me off.
You are eligible for an upgrade with a partial discount off of the full retail price today. You may be eligible for an upgrade on 09/15/2014 or AT&T Next which lets you upgrade to a new device every year on 09/15/2014.
Me, too.

Online ordering with apple is a lot better, no hiccups or anything when I bought my 5.
iPhone 4 was a mess. I tried preordering the entire day. Got lucky and bought one before the shipping times delayed.
Just a tip for those of you that will order online, use the apple store app, when the 5 came out, it actually was available a little early with the app. And everything went smoothly for me.
Debating pre-ordering or being hopeful that they'll be available the following week or so. I'm in no rush to get it and don't mind waiting. However I am traveling to Ohio the first weekend in October and would like to have it by then...may be wishful thinking.

Do yourselves all a favor and do not use a debit card to pre-order.
I pre-ordered an Iphone 5 on the first day available last year, and BofA cock-blocked my payment and I ended up falling to the end of the waitlist ship date.
I was without a personal cellphone so I couldn't wait for the delay and ended cancelling the pre-order and walked into ATT to get an S3 right away.

Why would you even use a debit card??
Totally unsafe and takes ages to claim back money if fraud occurs and your account will be out the money in the mean time. Also must report fraud within a certain amount of hours or yor liable amount goes up.

I don't like to use credit cards and prefer using actual money in my bank accounts and/or cash.
I've never had a security issue with my account before (knock on wood) and I never keep more than a couple grand in my checking accounts and move everything into my savings or
account.
Either way, was just a tip since BofA's debit "safety protection feature" cockblocked the charge.

Also had another bank CC do the same year for another purchase, again from a merchant that I used many times.
They say it's for our protection, when they are just CYA.

And with my limit if a unforeseen emergency expense has to be made, it can be done without emptying my account leaving me with nothing for essential expenses.
I hear Apple could be allocating more 5S's to China which they (and Hong Kong) can start reserving on Sept. 17.
Global investment banking firm Jefferies released a report on Friday that lowers drops its price target for shares of AAPL from $450 to $425. Jefferies' own channel checks indicate that Apple suppliers have begun receiving build plan cuts, indicating that Apple will be producing perhaps seven million fewer iPhone 5s models in the fourth quarter than had previously been expected.
The firm places the blame on two factors, one of which is Touch ID. Jefferies' channel checks indicate that production yields on the fingerprint sensor Apple included in the 5s "have been terrible."
Jefferies' assessment jibes with previous statements from well-connected KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo has been predicting short supply of the iPhone 5s since July, due to production issues surrounding the Touch ID sensor. Kuo, though, expects production to pick up after an initial period of limited availability.

I bet you could make more if you charged them for your "services"

Whiskers, if you have a iphone5, I would wait for the next iphone unless you are one of those "gotta have the newest iteration" kind of person....If you have the 4/4s and are not impressed, I would wait as well....Iphone 3gs oe earlier, I would suggest get the new iphone....you have waited toooo long
It's not bad. It takes some getting used to. There will be a lot of gripes over the design and "flat" feel. But that's only apparent when you're on the home screen. You forget about it when you're in the apps.
And the new multi-tasking/app dismisal is pretty nice. Blatant rip from WebOS, but nice none the less.
