Just one. Wife is pretty sure she wants gold, but refused to make a choice til she sees them all in person.

She has patience and can wait. I can not.

So my iPhone renders 1080p video faster than my 2.0GHZ mac mini.

Amazing how much faster the 5S is compared to the 5 in some areas.

And everyone said "Oh, 64 bit is nonsense on a phone."...

^ 64bit is nonsense if you understand what it is.... 5S definitely launches faster and process faster without a doubt but its more thanks to A7, not 64bit mem mapping.

Whatever you say boss.

I've been reading apps running 64 to 32 are ~20% faster. Just because of the 64 bit. I would think that's especially true in something such as video rendering.

It's understood the massive transistor bump helps a lot. But that's not the entire story.

I think what you're trying to get at is that unless the app is configured for 64bit, it's not going to benefit from 64-bit. The increase in speed is simply because of the A7 as you said. I wonder how many of the native iOS apps (calendar, notes, etc.) are 64-bit already.

There is a document that developers can use to update their apps to support the 64-bit architecture: https://developer.apple.com/library/...roduction.html

I wish there was metadata or something that denotes which apps are 64bit and which aren't. That would be a good marketing pitch for app developers to say that they have built their app to make use of it versus a competitor, especially if it is a good app.

wouldn't the app section currently stating "designed for ios7" mean they are native 64 bit?

Not that I know of. As far as I've seen apps can still be 32bit, it's up to the app developer to choose if they want to leverage the extra bit of performance.

I wouldn't think so, not with the majority of devices 32-bit.

I'd have to think it meets the design criteria changes in font, colors, curve diameter, etc.

FYI:

http://9to5mac.com/2013/09/16/apple-...d-64-bit-apps/

You can submit 64-bit apps for iOS 7 today that take advantage of the power of iPhone 5s. Xcode can build your app with both 32-bit and 64-bit binaries included so it works across all devices running iOS 7. If you wish to continue to support iOS 6 then you will need to build for 32-bit only. Next month we will be making changes that will allow you create a single app binary that supports 32-bit on iOS 6, as well as 32-bit and 64-bit on iOS 7.

I just know 64-bit was very slow to take off on personal computers, we still have very few true 64bit programs. I'd love to see 64bit apps in iOS. We shall see

I was talking to one of my friends about this the other day. You'll see more mobile app developers, especially those making games, adopt 64-bit than you ever will see desktop app developers because of the benefits from 64-bit on a mobile processor, it's just a lot more noticeable of an improvement. How many people really care to see a 64-bit version of MS Word? Also, many desktop software manufacturers simply didn't do it because of the cost. Look at how long it took Adobe to update Photoshop to 64-bit and that was a program that really could reap the benefits of it. My guess is that they finally did it when it got to a point where the entire community was up in arms about it or they got to a point that they couldn't do anything that revolutionary without making the switch. Either way, why spend the money if you don't have to is the mentally that many desktop software manufacturers took IMHO.

And to add to my previous post, I think Apple has made it really easy to adopt 64-bit on iOS than MS ever did for Windows.

noticed a bug in ios7, my proximity sensor is not working. It won't lock the screen while in a call so my face is free to mash the key pad.

The stores here have plenty of stock...even at 5PM the store I went to still had a line of people waiting, getting tickets of in stock phones.

I ran in to grab a case...got the RED leather case...I like the microfiber inside, the thinness and lightness of the case...the leather is a little slick feeling...hopefully when the leather wears it loses that quality. This is the first non-Speck Products case I've had since I first bought one for the 3G.

Because you had a candyshell I'm assuming...which was fine because it made the port connector easier to get to with aftermarket connectors.

But I had a pixel skin on my 4. They make really great stuff...and its got my name on it.

But I like the apple cases this time. The microfiber inside is a nice touch.

With the lightning connection, that area isn't a narrow as before. When I not using my Mophie, I have a gripped CandyShell.

The 120FPS is really cool, the fact you choose where the speed ramping begins and ends is really great...this is a feature that many professional cameras lack (for various reasons...but for this its great) I did quick video where I had my kids jumping up and down and then ramped it.

I've only had Siri on my ipad and never really used it...but on the phone I've already made use of it, and its great.

fingerprint scanner is cool and works great....works with thumbs, too (someone here said it would not)...have it coded to both thumbs, my right pointer finger, and my wife's thumb.

All the other little bits and pieces are great. It was such a worthwhile upgrade from the 4.

Does anyone know if you can set the new iPhone to unlock only if a passcode and fingerprint is provided?

Well I read after 5 failed finger attempts you have to use the pass code.

I think Im getting one by default. Long story but in short I replaced someone's Iphone 5 screen but screwed it up in the process, so then gave them my screen and ordered another screen (waiting on that now). I have no phone now and need one, right? So got to do something in the meantime...
