Totally... but understandable that they'd want to develop their own software.

Of the big 3 GPS apps...

Apple has the nicest UI but usually takes the longest or has sometimes messed up directions. It sucks that since Apple Maps is default and you can't choose another, any time you look up directions from Yelp, you need to copy + paste the address and open the app you want instead of just tapping "Directions"

Google has the best directions but the ugliest UI.

Waze is the most useful for long drives with the rerouting and police alerts.

I'm sure some developers get way more than others, right? I don't know how that payout thing works

I am waiting for the day that they implement their own Samsung Pay. I'll never own another Samsung phone, but Samsung Pay works everywhere. I can never remember all the (very few) places that take Apple Pay, and at some terminals I can't even tell, putting away my wallet and pulling out my phone is too much work

Pretty sure that 16 million developers are not active. Many apps from the first couple of tears, have no support and haven't worked in two or more iOS's.

iOS 11 will be the end of a lot of those apps. Apple is officially ending 32-bit App support on iOS 11.

OMG FINALLY AGAIN!!

iOS 11 Beta adds support for Core NFC, a new framework for reading Near Field Communications (NFC) tags and data in NFC Data Exchange Format.

Finally, indeed!

Still some common sense things and convenient features that I imagine could be easily implemented but haven't yet. But that's always been the case with the iPhone.

Question - did anyone have problems with the mic on their iPhone? My iPhone 6 just stopped working, the only way people can hear me is if I put the phone call on speakerphone but regular calls it's like my mic is on mute.

Haven't experience any mic problems. Dust/lint? I had a small dust/lint ball in my 3.5mm jack once that prevent my headphones from working properly. Was getting sporadic sound from only 1 ear piece. Same with lightning port once.... phone sometimes wouldn't recognize when charge cable was plugged in. I gave the areas a blast with compressed air and fixed it.

I waited until the 3G in 2008. It was the App Store that got me. I remember seeing the beatmaker app and thought it was really cool

He's useless this far in advance of a release. His track record is solid the day before release.

If he's right about no TouchID, Apple is making a big mistake.

More retardation, if they are aiming for highest screen to body ratio. Once again they're trying to create the most marketable product and not the best one.

No one really gives a shit if they have the thinnest or best screen-body phone. Give me better battery life, and thin bezels but not to the point that I go from fat fingering to fat palming texts.

What Is the iPhone? 10 Years In, Its Creators and Chroniclers Explain

The iPhone is more than just a smartphone. Or an immensely profitable product. Or a hub for your apps. Or a beautiful piece of machinery, or the cause of suffering for miners and laborers the world over. The iPhone is the sum of all those parts and more; the zagging combination of ideas and imaginations, of design and labor, of progressions and exploitations.
What is the iPhone?

I did my best to begin to answer that question myself in the beginning of the week, but it remains a powerful and elusive question, despite its deceptive simplicity. I put that question to a host of people who may better help answer it with firsthand experience. I interviewed many of them over the course of researching my book about the one device—itself essentially an effort to answer the question. What do the iPhone's inventors, manufacturers, students, and historians make of the device that has transformed the world?

So, I asked them each one simple question: What is the iPhone?

on Macbreak Weekly they were talking about this. It's probably going to be the 13th due to Labor Day.

I keep telling myself I'm going to wait this one out...but somehow I am going to be up a 2 AM

But iPhone 7 event (Sept. 7, 2016) came 2 days after Labor Day on Sept. 5, and iPhone 6s event (Sept. 9, 2015) came 2 days after Labor Day on Sept. 7

We'll find out next week.
