Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
I think Sarlaac address this here. He talked about Apple making a whole new phone every two years, 3 to 4 to 5. The 3Gs and the 4Gs have been the phones in between, so if someone got the 3, then two years later, the 4 came out, and now two later (this year) the 5 will come. This flows with the two year agreement that most have.

3 released July 11 2008
3Gs released Jun 19 2009
4 released Jun 24 2010
4Gs released Oct 2011
See there is a two year difference in model changes and a year difference in the models upgrade.
Blue shows a new model
purple shows an upgrade to that model.
So it follows a two year contract that most people might have.
And this year (2012), two years after the original 4 was released comes the "5".
I'll lay it out this way to what I said.

And I mention the 3g and the 3gs in both posts, I talking about the two years between the 3 and 4 and soon the 5. I'm not talking about the (mid year) model change when it comes to the contracts of a two year cell contract. Most with current iPhone bought the 3 with a two year contract, then the four was released so another two year contract and now for most, that two year contract will end this year and the 5 will be here waiting for them.
I'm not talking about gear heads that have to have every single phone released and them paying full retail because they are still in their contracts.

^ Pretty damn funny. Of course I've heard Siri has had trouble with Southern dialects as well. "I want a cold beer." Siri... "the polar bear is native to the Arctic region."
I'll stick with an android on a Galaxy class phone known as data.

iPhone finally getting a 4"+ screen
it's about time.
FYI Steve Jobs believed that 3.5" was perfect, and speculation on my part but I don't think this upcoming iPhone would break the 4" barrier if he was still in charge.
I also suspect this new iPhone will have a "4G" radio or whatever you want to call it. Would be really surprised if it doesn't.

Then you do that, like something is going to change...

Apparently, Verizon now has a rule for all new smartphones that are released, that they all be LTE
. Can't wait to get a 4G iPhone. Whenever I see my friend, his Droid Bionic completely rapes my iPhone 4 in speedtest.net
Not bad. I'm pulling about 14 on the home wifi with 5 devices connected to the router. I'm still waiting to get in a 4G city and she what she can do.

Looks like I will be getting $15 ... in a long ass time probably
Nearly two years after tech blogs screamed "Antennagate!" over problems with the iPhone 4's reception, owners will be getting a little pocket change for their troubles.
Apple over the weekend settled a class-action lawsuit filed about the issue, promising to pay $15 or give a free case to everyone in the United States who bought one of the wildly popular phones.
Released in June 2010, the slimmer reworking of Apple's smartphone became a huge seller. But soon after it went on sale, some owners began complaining that their phone frequently dropped voice calls.
The culprit, it was ultimately determined, was the antenna, which is wrapped in a band around the phone's edge to help create its slim form. Using what became known as the "death grip," (i.e. holding the phone at a certain spot) caused reception to suffer or cut out entirely.
"This settlement relates to a small number of customers who indicated that they experienced antenna or reception issues with their iPhone 4, and didn't want to take advantage of a free case from Apple when it was being offered in 2010," Apple told CNET in a written statement.
However, Ira Rothken, a lead attorney in the case, said more than 21 million iPhone 4 owners were eligible for the payout.
The free case offer lasted for three months. Apple had initially ignored the complaints, then dismissed them, then called a rare press conference at which then-CEO Steve Jobs announced the offer, while claiming the problem was just as bad on other companies' phones.
A bumper or other protective case on the phone eliminates, or at least greatly reduces, the problem. Apple's new iPhone 4S, released in October, has not shown a similar problem.
"We believe that the Apple iPhone 4 settlement is fair, adequate, and reasonable," Rothken told CNET. "We believe that it allows members of the class to choose, and they can get $15 of cash or a bumper, so we believe that type of choice is proportional to the circumstances."
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Multiple lawsuits had been merged into one in the case. Plaintiffs claimed that Apple had been misleading in its communication with customers about the problem.
Rothken first noted "preliminary approval" of the settlement late Friday on Twitter.
Under the settlement, eligible customers should get an e-mail from Apple some time in April. They'll then have 120 days to apply for the $15. A website, iPhone4Settlement.com, has been set up but had not yet been activated as of Monday morning.

iOS Blog: iOS 5.1 Adds '4G' Indicator to iPhone 4S Status Bar for AT&T HSPA+ Coverage
Mar 7, 2012 12:54 pm PST by Eric Slivka
Last October, an internal AT&T talking point claimed that the carrier was working with Apple to have the iPhone 4S status bar display a "4G" indicator when the device is connected to an HSPA+ network.
With today's release of iOS 5.1, that change now appears to have gone into effect as shown in a photo posted to Twitter by @ichadman.
While short of the data speeds seen with LTE networks now rolling out, AT&T and other carriers have also referred to their HSPA+ networks using 4G as a marketing terms to distinguish the standard's faster performance relative to older 3G standards.

what they need to do is to fix the issue with updating applications where an application in the middle of the list breaks their filesize quota which kills apps the updating of apps lower in the list.
ie.
app 1 - 10mb
app 2 - 20mb
app 3 - 75mb
app 4 - 10mb
app 5 - 20mb
app 6 - 15mb
in this scenario, if you choose update all, all the apps up to app 3 will be updated, but any app after app 3 isn't just because app 3 broke their quota. whenever this happens i have to 1) wait to connect to wifi to update all, or update each app individually.
