Pre-Ordered my EVO 3D from wirefly today Cant wait to get started on rooting it. I bought my wife an EVO about a year ago, and never wanted to mess with rooting it because it was hers. CGFebTSX04, your posts have been more than helpful reading through this thread. Thanks

Gingerbread which is Android 2.3. Is out for EVO 4G. You can get now or wait for over the air update June 6th.
Here's the quote from Android Central...
-:PLEASE READ:-
Before you go and post about an issue you are having check this list to see if it is documented already and if a fix has been found. There are too many "My Netflix isn't working!" and "I cannot get rid of Voicemail Notifications!" posts in this thread that could have been avoided if the user had just read this first post. Thank you.
I will try and keep this post updated with new things as they come in.
New Apps/Features
+Downloads App which looks to be a shortcut more or less to what you have downloaded recently.
+TeleNav GPS Navigation which replaces Sprint Navigation. It offers a standard free service and a paid for $4.99/month.
+When turning off the phone you get the option to Power Off, Airplane Mode and Restart now.
+Turning on the screen now fades in instead of just popping on.
+Pocket Mode under sound settings increases the ring volume when phone is in your pocket or a bag.
+Flip for Speaker sound settings allows you to activate the speaker phone during calls by turning your phone over.
+Group Message feature added under the stock SMS App.
+The ability to enable Animated GIFs within the stock Browser.
+Better Copy/Paste functionality.
+SIP Calling.
+Volume rocker sound for increases/decreases in volume has changed.
+When receiving a call, the answer slider is colored red across the top (swipe up to decline) and green across the bottom (swipe down to answer). Although this functionality has been there, the color indicators are new.

Yeah I haven't seen that feature on any other device yet. I don't think it'd be that hard to incorporate on other devices though if people bug the devs enough.

On my Evo if you go to settings>sound>flip for speaker (turn over your phone to activate the speaker during calls). Haven't played around with it much yet but it was a new feature I noticed after the android update.

So the MIUI update coming on Friday is going to bring in some new lockscreens:
Source: http://miui.us/forums/content.php?35-miuius
Its kind of a play of the Sense 3.0 Lockscreen. You drag the Lock to an icon and it'll open that app/notification. Can't wait to test them out.

GB has also made it nearly impossible for me to add anything (widget, etc) to the lower row on any screen. It is SO hard to get that square to activate for placing a widget it's redonkulous.
#2971
You should call your carrier and have them replace your phone. They should do it for you. Just tell them all your problems and they should replace it on the spot.
#2972
Those MIUI updates look pretty good. I just installed the siulmagic sense ROM and was enjoying the change, but I forgot to backup the rom before restoring my apps + data and the phone went into an endless boot loop. Sometimes I have luck with restoring apps + data and sometimes not....this was a time I didn't have the luck. I had to revert back to htcclay rom. I'll reinstall the siulmagic tomorrow and just restore the apps this time.
CG- Does that MIUI you are running allow for OTA updates?

#2973
I don't personally use ROM Manager or any OTA service but I believe it does have the option. I like to manually install my ROMs because it helps me know where it failed if it does. I manually download them from the websites off my phone or computer then just flash them in recovery. Luckily, these type of updates don't really require doing a factory reset. I just clear cache and dalvik-cache and flash away then I'm back and running in 5 minutes max. I'm able to UV my phone even more now with the Fugu Kernel and my phone can last about a day doing the stuff I normally do which is pretty awesome.
#2974
which row? the one right above the app drawer? thats strange, and that shouldnt happen. I know i get to use up all the space i want.
#2975
#2976
no your phone is having the problem, would you not want to do a factory reset or do you not want to take the time of getting everything back to normal. It may fix it?
#2977
Yeah a factory reset will most likely fix it. If not, the phone can be replaced since its under warranty. In other news, the Droid X got a Cyanogenmod 7 port even though the bootloader is locked:

Source: http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/06...orola-droid-x/
Although the phone is capable of running custom ROMs, it is still limited by the kernel because of the locked bootloader. Lots of stuff still broken but this is a great step for the devs.

#2978
Is there a way to back up all the widgets/apps and setup to just reload it?
#2979
If it were my phone, I'd fully start from scratch, as in just reinstall the apps without the old data. It removes all of the problems that the old data may be causing in the first place.

Although it wont back up data, it will just know which apps you have downloaded and when you start up your phone again from scratch and you go on wifi, it will start downloading all your apps, i think

Did you guys read engadget's review on the EVO 3D. Really bad battery and the 3D is a work in progress.

I would take Engadget and especially Gizmodo's reviews with a grain of salt. Engadget was pushing the phone through its paces when doing the battery test. Their reviews have gone downhill since Josh left. Read other reviews. With that said I go where the developers go and this phone will definitely have lots as long as HTC doesn't lock the bootloader.

You have to sign up for the beta
http://beta.swype.com/android/create/
Here's the xda thread that shows some of the features of this beta
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1124555
Gonna try it out, so I'll let you know how it works. I think swypes limited to htc phones i wanna say but i have no clue about that. I just know its not an app and its not on my phone.
edit: looks like you can get this for phones with swype already, i'm not sure whats the difference with the beta. Check it out if you want.

If it's not made by apple, engadget will find a reason to not like it.
#2992
The problem with their battery testing is that its not standardized. Its all relative and a hanging app could've definitely caused that 6 hour drain or it was a fluke. I guess what I'm trying to get at is there are too many variables for battery usage/drainage and you can see it in the various reviews out there at the moment. Some are saying battery life was good and the others not so good.

So the Samsung Captivate has a leaked official Gingerbread out there for those who don't want the hacked international variants:
Source: http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/06...e-to-download/
SamFirmware is also saying they have a Gingebread build for the Epic 4G which they will be releasing in the next couple of days. No word on the Vibrant or Fascinate but at least you know its coming.
Don’t feel like waiting for Samsung and AT&T to get around to officially rolling out a Gingerbread update for the Captivate? Thanks to SamFirmware, you don’t have to; you can flash an early build of the update now, provided that you’re comfortable with running leaked and likely somewhat buggy firmware.
SamFirmware actually has two such leaks, the first (I897UCKE3) dated May 26th and the second (I897UCKF1) having a build date of June 8th. Though the folks at XDA Developers are still digging through the leaks’ contents, we already know that both builds contain AT&T bloatware – as is to be expected from any sort of official software – as well as sideloading capabilities (yay!) and… a new bootloader that appears to be identical to that of a Gingerbread-running i9000. Unfortunately, HSUPA is still disabled, and you’ll have to flash the update via Odin to avoid bricking.
Still, it’s an official Gingerbread build. On an American Samsung handset. That in itself should inspire awe.

Alright, my iPhone 3G is finally deader than dead. I have to spring for something this week and I still haven't seen any firm dates for the GSII (WTF is taking so long!!??).
What should I be considering?

^I'm assuming you're using AT&T. As far as phone choices go for AT&T, they're pretty limited on the great Android phones. They won't be getting the good stuff til later in the year. I would consider:
- Inspire 4G (Its not dual core but its still pretty fast. CM7 nightlies are being built for this phone. Great phone if you're into modding and has a great dev support from XDA.)
- Infuse 4G (4.3" SAMOLED+ screen. Almost as thin as the Galaxy S II with a bigger screen but not dual core. Dev support is starting up slowly but its getting there. Samsung's track for updates isn't great for their US phones so it may take a while before this phone gets updated if you don't like to flash phones yourself. Otherwise, its a great phone if you're not concerned about updates.)
- Motorola Atrix 4G (has a locked bootloader but seems to be a great phone all around.)
- HTC Sensation 4G is supposedly coming out soon. It just passed the FCC a few days ago so it should be out any time now. Got great reviews all around but if you can't wait that much longer I would take the Inspire 4G.
- Galaxy S II international version. You'll be paying for it up front which is currently going for around $680 with shipping but its a Quad band 3G phone so it works perfectly fine on AT&T 3G. Also you may get away using the cheaper $15 unlimited MediaNET data plan. You also won't be on contract so you can change to another phone if you like before the 2 year. Just something to think about.

Seems like the Infuse best suits my needs. Certainly seems like a better option than the iP4 at this point...
Thanks!

So I've been playing with the new MIUI lockscreens for the past couple of days. Its pretty cool all around but its missing two key features:
1) Music controls are now gone.
2) Can't preview missed call or text without jumping to the app.
Now that music control is gone, I've actually used a hacked framework that allows you to change tracks with the volume controls just like CM7. Actually prefer this method so no Music Controls on the lockscreen is no longer a big deal plus its safer since I don't have to look at the screen any more to change tracks. You can get the mod here:
http://forums.miui-dev.com/showthrea...a-volume-press
The missed call and text preview is probably coming in the next few days. Hopefully, the MIUI devs put it in. Kinda miss that feature where I can just drag and hold to see what the text says without having to unlock my phone. Overall, the lockscreens are pretty nice. This is just one of the five new lockscreens they released and is my favorite overall.
Using a themed Blue 5 lockscreen with a transparent background for the lockscreen. What you're actually seeing is my main desktop background. Also works if you use a Live Wallpaper. For some reason when the phone is being charged, it creates a dark overlay as seen above. Otherwise, its just transparent until you press on the lock. Inner circle represents the battery bar and only shows when charging. When you press on the lock screen it expands to the outer edge. Also has an animation coming from the bottom to the top indicating that its charging. It looks pretty cool.
You can get the themed blue 5-lockscreen from here:
http://forums.miui.us/showthread.php...ut-Of-The-Oven!
Also, if you know how to edit XMLs, you can change any of the 5 shortcuts above with whatever app you wanna launch from the homescreen. You can even change the icons very easily as each theme is basically a zip file which you can manipulate by replacing the files inside. Then you just apply them with the MIUI Theme manager to mix and match to your liking.

man that lockscreen is beautiful!
You know I was always wondering whether that volume controls for music controls was a stock thing or CM7 haha. I stumbled upon it when i was rooted and had no clue if my phone originally had that. Use that everyday. Good for in the car. Or in the pocket.

^Its pretty awesome. It looks good as it is functional. I decided to tweak the colors of the theme a little. It was just a little too blue for my taste so I decided to change the PNG files inside the theme and came up with this:
