Oo, I found my account and sync settings under Manage Applications..
There's no place to check background data there, though. In fact, everything is empty and grayed out. Force stop appears to be the only option. No check boxes at all, just info on storage, cache, launch by default, permissions. Storage and cache both say 0.00B.

Okay, so I cleared it all, then clicked on my gmail ap. It says waiting for sync up top and the main screen is black and says "Your email will appear shortly." But the double arrows aren't showing indicating that it's syncing. It looks like I will still have to force it. I'll give it a few minutes, but I'm skeptical. :/

You may have to manually sync it the first time. One last thing to do:

Open up GMail --> Hit Menu --> Accounts --> Hit Menu Again --> Account Settings --> Make sure background data and Data/Auto-Sync is checked below.

There is no auto-sync option on that screen for me. :/ I get Background Data (checked), Data Roaming (not checked), and Data enabled (checked).

Then there's a section called Application data delivery with two items under it:
-Email and corporate sync (grayed out)
-Social Applications.

So I hope those settings will take care of it. Just synced - we shall see...

Oh okay. I guess Motorola changed "Auto-Sync" to "Data enabled" to make it more user friendly?

Silliness, if you ask me. Auto-Sync makes more sense. If it would work, they could call it Tickle Me Elmo and I would be happy.

EDIT: Looks like there is an Autosync? lol. Go to an empty homescreen or one with space. Add a widget --> Power control. Make sure that Autosync icon is lit.

Is there any way to disable the battery manager? I think only the Droid X seems to have that. May be disrupting your data. You don't have a task killer right? Cause that could be disrupting data transfers as well. Otherwise, I really have no idea what could cause it to hang. Probably the only other option is a factory reset.

Dude. If that's it, they made that WAY too hard. I just added it and it was not lit. It is now. We'll see...sending myself another test email.

Haha. Stupid Motorola. Another reason why I hate their Blur UI and hope more manufacturers just stick to Vanilla Android. Glad you got it working finally. Can't believe they would hide that important setting there. Just make sure you turn it off when you don't need it though cause it'll drain your battery.

When you have time you should read up on how to do it. It gets quite addicting flashing all the mods XDA and other users make.

Speaking of root, Galaxy S and Nexus S users with root, Voodoo Sound Kernel v1 just got released and should be ported to the Captivate, Vibrant and I think Nexus S now:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=806195 (Note this link is for the international version of the Galaxy S, i9000, i9000M, i9000T)

What does it do? It amplifies the sound from the headphone jack beyond what Samsung limited it to without distortion and adds bass to FM Radio (Only international Galaxy S has this feature that I'm aware of.) Supercurio basically rewrote the audio drivers of the phone to make use of the audio hardware of the Galaxy S which apparently is one of the best audio chips out there at the moment. Samsung just wasn't making use of it with their noob programmers.

This is only his first release and it should be improved in the next couple of releases. He plans to tackle the mic adjustment during video recording so it doesn't sound garbled up among other things. And he's also in talk with Samsung so they can implement the modifications into their future ROMs. (One of the perks of open source.) I'm not an audiophile but I could definitely tell the difference between stock and Voodoo sound.

Phone is dying alread, and i took it off charge at 8:45am. Only really used the music player and texting. Some reason the android os is using up a lot of my battery again. Yesterday it was fine. It took me till like 11 at night to get to where I am. I'm at 36 percent with the battery in use for only 5h 42m.

Getting that app that you requested, if i cant fix it, I'm going over to xda.

speedemon - You got a Nexus S right?

Check the battery stats menu in Settings and see whats eating up the battery. I use the music player all day work and when I leave I still have more then half a charge.

When I first got the phone the battery would drop ~30% over night. Turns out when I would get a text overnight, NoLED would wake the phone and keep the screen on. I changed it to a 5 min timeout and my battery has been lasting a very long time since.

I also have my brightness turned all the way down and NFC is turned off. When I watch YouTube vids, I try to do it on WiFi. I dont use bluetooth either. Other then that I have a few programs running background data, so its not like the data connection is off when the phone isnt in use.

^Awesome. At least it was a simple fix. I like AudioManager because you can place a widget on the desktop so you can see your current volume levels for everything. Pretty handy when you're in a meeting and not sure what profile you're in. Especially that media volume when you're gaming. lol.

Definitely take a look at that "Spare parts" app and under partial wake usage, among the other options, see what is causing it to stay awake. Might be an app you downloaded thats not allowing the phone to sleep. You'll see it in there with all the graphs and the breakdown.

For current Verizon Droids... X, Fascinate, or D2 which one would you guys choose?

I'm sold on the Android OS just trying to find a good fit. The Pro is nice and all, but I want more screen now if that sounds crazy. I'm going to send it back Friday and try to get one in-store but I'm torn.

This is a pretty involved thread... but if a Gorgeous Super AMOLED display screen is what you want, then it sounds like the Fascinate is your phone...

...has this been an ongoing problem or something new?

I have the EVO too... I recalibrated the screen a while back and haven't had that problem again... if you have already done this and you have a screen protector that is fairly old, then it could be the screen protector... after a few months mine acted up, but did better when I changed it...

I got this software, and I dont see partial wake usage, nor do I see anything else being useful. If its under battery history that may be the reason why I cant see it, my application doesnt respond when I open it. Try downloading it again then.

In reality though, as much as I love all of the new specs on these phone, I don't see myself even using it to it's full potential. Kinda like having a turboed car. All I do is drive to school. A turbo is great to show off to, but I won't even use it to its full potential.

The only time I see myself using it to its full potential would be when I first get it. I remembered loading so many apps and games on my Vibrant. But after about a month, I don't even play 80% of those games. All I've been doing mainly is talk, text, music and web.

Yeah its under battery history. Not sure why its crashing but its a basic app. A quick google search for your problem says that its Latitude and Google Voice thats draining for some reason on the Nexus S. If you have either running or you open them up once, they remain open for some weird reason.

Sign out of Google Voice in the settings menu or Latitude.
