So I finally got to installing the tablet hybrid UI for my Nexus and I love it!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1619582

The ability to lower the DPI to make the screen increase the resolution is awesome. They also got it to work per app so you can change the layout on the fly. Oh and the new CM9 Music App is pretty nice. Its coming in the next nightly but this build already has it implemented. Now it just needs to match my theme. I'll post some pics in a bit.

Tablet UI Pics on my Galaxy Nexus:

Using the Arctic Grey CM9 Theme:

Overall, everything works as it is. There are a few visual issues but nothing that deters it from being used as a daily. Even get the tablet Camera mode.

Also here's pics of the CM9 Music app that's coming in the next build:

TouchWiz from the Samsung Galaxy S III running on my Nexus:

V2zAS.png

Grab it here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1667854

There's a noticeable gap between the software buttons and the dock with my setup but its probably due to the Tablet UI I'm using. Supposedly it only works on 720p screens but some people are saying it worked on a i9100. Need root and you need to grab the .lib file inside the apk. Change the SecLauncher2.apk into SecLauncher2.zip and extract the "libdrawglfunction.so" and push it to your "/system/lib/" folder. Don't forget to push SecLauncher2.apk to your "/system/app/" folder and change permissions for both the apk and lib to rw-r--r--. I have to say this TouchWiz launcher is amazingly smoother/faster than Trebuchet, Nova or Apex. The transition animations are much more fluid in comparison. I may end up using this as the default launcher...

I've gone back to CM9 for both the Nexus and my Galaxy S. CM9 has gotten a lot smoother and faster overall with the recent nightlies. Although I am currently on the Tablet UI version of CM9 mainly for the button layout and status bar at the bottom. I found that the other custom ROMs based on CM9 added too many features that they got a little bloated. The speed issue was definitely noticeable between CM9 and AOKP over time and I figured that I didn't use a majority of the extra features in AOKP any way. There are a few features that I wish CM9 had but I'm sure they're coming in the next few nightlies.

Also, for some reason, enabling Motion Control on the TouchWiz Launcher has made it speak my actions. Like when I pinch to get a preview of the Home Screen with the TouchWiz Launcher it speaks it out. I can't turn it off cause there's no option for to disable it since I'm not on a TouchWiz ROM. The launcher is really smooth though. I think they're trying to port it to other resolutions if it hasn't been done already.

So I got around to flashing the TouchWiz UI on my i9000 and I have to say it looks pretty damn good:

http://www.mrmad.net/samsung-addon-p...sgs3-look-2105

TouchWiz CM9 Theme Engine:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1657889

Its really close to the real thing and it doesn't look bad at all. There's a paid version of the TouchWiz CM9 Theme Engine which looks even closer to the real thing but the guy hasn't put it up on the Play store yet.

Someone made a program that picks up your Android's notifications and pops them up on your desktop. Its like TabletTalk but for Windows. You can even respond to texts from your desktop. Seems to work on Windows only at the moment and requires both the desktop and the phone to be on the same WiFi. I'm pretty sure the guy could make it use bluetooth and work on a Mac in the future. Could be useful when you're in a meeting and can't pull out the phone from your pocket:

DeskNotifier helps you to receive your Notifications directly on your PC!
It's an Android App, which helps you to receive all the Notifications from your Android Phone on your PC and lets you answer your SMS messages instantly!
The App shows notifications from these Apps:
- Calls
- SMS
- WhatsApp Messenger
- Viber
- Astrid Tasks
- Facebook
... and many more!

Nice, sucks i switched to a mac lol, but hopefully he comes out with it soon. I remember i tried using that app air droid but it wouldnt work properly with my NS. And ever since I haven't found one that did this well. Didnt want a whole emulator either. Just the text message part.

Finally had time to switch back to CM9, hopefully it goes better

Im testing it at work right now. Setup was easy, and its pretty quick too, even on my offices horrible wireless network.

If you right click the icon in the system tray and select New SMS, it pulls your entire phone book too. The only "bug" is double notifications, one in English, one in German.

Cool animation. Wonder if it pops up any display for missed calls and other stuff. Cyanogenmod will be adding the Weather to lockscreens in future nightlies along with Missed Calls and Texts.

Nice. I haven't been able to test it yet. WiFi is set up like crap where I'm at. Hopefully he gets bluetooth working up next and then maybe in the future 3G --> WiFi although not sure how useful that would be in such a scenario.

The only thing I could think of after a quick search was Growl for OSX:

http://growl.info/about

Its basically a unified notification system for all the apps in OSX or something. Maybe someone who's used it before can chime in. There seems to be an older app that does the similar notifications as DeskNotifier called Android Notifier and uses Growl to push notifications to a Mac from an Android phone. Maybe you can try it out:

http://code.google.com/p/android-not...iki/GrowlHowto

Setup files and APK are here:

http://code.google.com/p/android-not...downloads/list

It looks like it hasn't been updated in a while so I'm not sure if it still works. It also allows Bluetooth connection instead of relying just on WiFi.

Weather on the lockscreen is now in CM9:

3wNmX.jpg LlaFS.png

It works pretty well and fairly customizable in terms of units, geolocation or manual location, showing/hiding the city, update interval. Would like to see the ability to change the weather icons and shift the city name a little. The city name looks weird if you happen to be in a city with a long name on it.

They also added lock delay, lockscreen before pin and a few other lockscreen enhancements for people who want those features. And I'm not entirely sure but the stock Android browser feels a lot faster than before. They merged one of the webkit patches and it zooms/pans so much smoother especially on image heavy sites.

Yeah its pretty stable. Running the nightlies on both my Nexus and Galaxy S and I don't have any issues. I use my Galaxy S when I'm flashing my Nexus and vice versa and so far so good. The increased stock browser speed performance is definitely noticeable on my Galaxy S where it used to stutter on image heavy sites like the Funny Pictures thread. Now it handles that page without any stuttering.

Just checked, Im on Nightly 5/12

I usually flash when there is an update to Mathkids kernel (Matr1x), which Im one release behind now (v19.5 vs 20). I havent flashed v20 yet because some people are claiming performance issues.

when running nightlies do you have to normally do a full wipe? No right? Unless something major gets updated?

ohh and cm9 is running so much better than my last ROM, it think it was just so bloated that my phone couldnt handle it. I'm not OC or anything, and I'm also using CM9's kernel. Dont see any need to try another one for now.

Nope no wipe needed unless you're jumping to a completely new ROM. I flash pretty much every day without wiping. GApps even gets reinstalled for you automatically as well so its just nightly and kernel flashes every day for me. And yeah the other ROMs feel sluggish compared to CM. I think its cause everything is being rewritten with CM9 instead of being ported like AOKP and other ROMs.

I don't think I mentioned it yet but the new CyanogenMod Changelog is found here now:

http://changelog.bbqdroid.org/

The other one still works but they're mainly sticking with the one above. Here's the old one for the Nexus:

http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=maguro

Just change maguro to your device's code name. Lots of stuff coming in the next nightly. Seems the devs have more time due to the holiday.

I always do a full wipe before installing just to make sure there are zero issues from an older nightly.

Ahh yeah that's the safest method. I only do it when I jump to a whole new ROM. Otherwise I just do a dirty flash on top of the previous nightly. Haven't had any issues since CM5 so why change something if it isn't broken. In total it takes me about 5 mins every morning to flash the latest nightly. Downloading the next one takes the longest time then just flashing the ROM and kernel without wiping. Actually I add the hidden Cerberus in my system app folder too so its pre installed in my phone and won't disappear if someone steals my phone and tries to factory reset.

Thought I'd come by and let you guys know I'm rocking a AT&T HTC One X. I've rooted and unlocked and am running CleanROM 2.1.

What an amazing upgrade from the Nexus One.

I bet that's a huge upgrade. lol. Especially with the bootloader being unlocked now by the XDA guys. How's the screen on that thing? Still haven't seen one in person but I did get to play with an ASUS TF300T earlier today. Wish I had that Tegra 3 on my TF101. It was smooth as butter.

Mine is the AT&T version which has the new Snapdragon S4 Krait processor. Thing is a beast, even though it's only dual core. The cores are the new Cortex A15 architecture and built on 28nm tech, compared to the Tegra 3, which is built on the slightly dated Cortex A9. It's been doing a great job against Tegra 3 in benchmarks (http://www.anandtech.com/show/5779/h...for-att-review). The beauty is that LTE is built into the S4, making the batter life outstanding compared to other LTE devices.

This a good explanation on the S4 beating the Tegra 3 in most situations: http://www.androidauthority.com/why-...he-time-58666/

The screen is insane, quite possibly the best screen available on a mobile device. The hardware on every level is top notch.

Yeah that was my bad. I forgot the US variants used the S4s which perform pretty great. Play with the NFC yet? It looks like Google Wallet isn't working on it since AT&T hasn't approved it on the list.

Here's a reminder for the people running Google Wallet to Reset it inside the app before you perform a factory reset or else you'll break the Secure Element and will require a new phone to use Google Wallet:

For prevention, just make sure that before you perform a factory reset, you go into your Google Wallet’s settings (inside the app itself) and click on the option for “Reset Google Wallet.” This will delete all payment information from the device and you can factory reset to your heart’s desire.

http://phandroid.com/2012/05/28/andr...medium=twitter

Also an Nandroid Backup of the ROM with it working may help fix it but that's hit or miss.

So scratch that Wallet not working on the HTC One X. Modaco patched it and got it to work but you need root to install the APK into /system/app/ and change the permissions:

Patched Google Wallet region/device/carrier free:

http://loadbalancing.modaco.com/down...rel.modaco.apk

More info and instructions:

http://www.modaco.com/topic/354635-r...pk-11-r63-v12/

Remember, Money Network and Google will NOT give you tech support over this so don't load too much money on it in case it stops working. Although I hear they do issue refunds if it does. Also, Google still does give you $10 free to try it out.

It seems to only display one event at a time I think. Haven't messed around with it too much. The new nightlies aren't up on get.cm for some reason. You can get them from Clockwork's site except the speeds are ridiculously slow right now unless someone posted a mirror in the respective thread at XDA.

Looking forward to missed notifications on the lockscreen soon.

You're gonna be waiting a while. The CM team pretty much defined their RC builds to be the Nightlies with a code freeze. Otherwise, the Nightlies are their stable builds. I flash Nightlies everyday except when the changelog is just a bunch of translations and I haven't had any issues yet plus it keeps my flashing addiction in check. lol.

Got my new Galaxy Nexus to replace the HTC myTouch that I broke. Not taking any chances this time, so it's wrapped in an OtterBox case. Awsome phone.

ah i see. I use my phone daily for work though and I cant afford wiping settings or encountering issues, though.

it's a great phone. I first bought mine intending to just use it in stock form but after finally ponying up to unlock, root, and subsequently flash, love this phone even more.

Brotip: unlock the boot loader before doing anything if you intend to start flashing. You'll lose the data on the phone. At least that's how it was last i checked.

Yeah I get what you mean. Although you shouldn't need to wipe once your locked into one ROM. You can just dirty flash each new nightly like I do. You also don't need to flash every day. I just do it because I like my phone to be up to date and it only takes a few minutes every morning except for the downloading part. ROM Manager Premium can even automatically flash the Nightlies for you as they come out without you touching anything.

Wise words. I agree with this totally. Although you could root and use Titanium Backup to save a few data prior to unlocking the bootloader.

So the Samsung Galaxy S III is going to be released almost simultaneously on 5 carriers in the US starting this month. Pretty impressive feat for Samsung or any manufacturer for that matter:

T-Mobile:

Sprint:

Verizon:

US Cellular:

AT&T hasn't made their announcement yet but I'm sure its coming. The home button stays on the US version. Also, it'll come with the Qualcomm S4 with LTE and 2 GB of RAM to compensate for the Quadcore not being there. Wonder how much of a difference that 2 GB of RAM will make. I guess multitasking would be better overall but who knows.
