So, these lines and dots I'm seeing due to the display, what are they called? If I'm to exchange the phone I need to be able to explain the problem with the right term.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Whats up with RDX owners?

You may have good luck just telling them there is some lint or other garbage under the screen distorting it. My friend had to exchange his phone a few times for that reason.

Yeah. Got it at Best Buy...so, I do have 14 days to exchange. Although, for something like this, I wonder what sort of fight they will put up.
Anyhow, any idea what the term for the problem is? Like I said, it would help if I could explain it better than "some lines and dots when the phone is a very dark room".
I may get a look.

We have been keeping a little secret.. the kind that is so much fun to share when the time comes.
Today we announce XBMC for Android. Not a remote, not a thin client; the real deal. No root or jailbreak required. XBMC can be launched as an application on your set-top-box, tablet, phone, or wherever else Android may be found.
The feature-set on Android is the same that you have come to expect from XBMC, no different from its cousin on the desktop. Running your favorite media-center software on small, cheap, embedded hardware is about to become a hassle-free reality. And as Android-based set-top-boxes are becoming more and more ubiquitous, it couldn’t be a better time. In fact, primary development was done on a Pivos XIOS DS set-top-box. And that is no coincidence, you will notice that Pivos is now listed as an official sponsor (more on that later). XBMC is stable and works great there, as well as on various tablets and phones. Though with Android, as many of you probably know, that is only the beginning of the story.
Enjoy the stereotypical dev-shot low-quality demo video. More video, including phone/tablet usage in the next post.
So what’s the catch? None… in time. Currently, for most devices only software decode of audio and video is hooked up. We considered waiting until universal hardware decode was ready before making our announcement, but in the end decided that in the spirit of keeping things open and working with our ever-expanding community, it made sense to open up sooner rather than later. We are confident that an OpenMax-based player (similar to the one used for the Raspberry Pi) will spring up very quickly. That said, software playback of most media plays quite well already.
Though, there is one exception. As Pivos sponsored a large portion of the port, we were able to work with their vendors to achieve buttery-smooth hardware-accelerated playback on the XIOS DS. It remains to be seen if such hardware-specific features will make it into XBMC mainline or exist as patches for vendors to integrate.
While, as you can see in the video, the port is fully usable and lots of fun to play with, it’s not quite ready for prime-time. We will begin releasing apks for interested beta testers in the coming weeks. But for those who are up to the task, as you would expect from XBMC, the source code is available. We have decided not to push to Google Play until we are satisfied that users with all kinds of devices get the same great XBMC experience. We ask that our users stay on the lookout for evil-doers trying to cash in on XBMC’s popularity. If you see anyone masquerading as XBMC, please be sure to let us and Google know about it.
There is also the issue of having a proper UI for small-screen devices. Typically, XBMC skins have been designed for use on a TV, so use on a small phone can be clunky. But there is nothing keeping skinners from creating more functional touch-oriented skins, like the included “Touched” skin from Jezz_X. With the community’s help, we’re sure to have a more refined version available for inclusion by the time we release a stable version.
There are still many details left to iron out, mainly related to the wide variety of Android devices in the wild. We have not yet decided what minimum requirements will be set, due simply to the lack of extensive testing on exotic devices.
As for taking advantage of Android itself, we haven’t even scratched the surface. There are so many interesting features that we could take advantage of: launching apps, location awareness, speech recognition, on and on. Once the core port is finished up, you can bet we’ll be exploring many new avenues.
I could write for days about how the port started, how it was accomplished technically, what tricks were used, etc, but I will save that for a (somewhat more personal) follow-up post. There is much to say about the process that would likely bore most readers, but I will try to answer the questions that come up in the comments as much as possible in that post. The port was a big effort with many contributors, many thanks to Davilla, Memphiz, Phaeodaria, Montellese, Topfs2, and everyone else who was involved.
Full disclosure: I have been working for Pivos for the last few months, where I suggested the port-work and XBMC sponsorship. I hope our users join me in a thanking them for supporting XBMC and allowing me to work on the port (among other things) during the day. Be sure to check out the Pivos forums, where discussions and unofficial builds are bound to spring up quickly.

Its the same exact phone as your Vibrant except it has hardware home button which means everything the i9000 gets, the Captivate, Vibrant, and maybe Epic and Fascinate get. I've had this phone getting close to two years come September. Its still pretty solid but the 4" screen is killing me right now coming from the Nexus. Its like going backwards for me. Otherwise, its still a very capable phone.
Its no contract, $350, unlocked right now straight from the Play Store. It'll work any GSM network in the world 3G/"4G" and now ships with Jelly Bean out of the box. The Nexus is hands down the best Android phone I've owned and I think I'll be skipping this year's Nexus because its that good. (If you guys have been following me, I upgrade phones just about every year.)

A lot of Android devs have been waiting for this for a while and you can bet they're going to contribute to this thing. If I knew any coding I would too. Lol. Also, a lot of people are thinking that they should team up with the Ouya team which only seems logical at the moment. So imagine a $99 Android powered console with XBMC. But then again why does it have to stop at a $99 console...

Settings --> Apps --> All Tab --> Google Services Framework --> Clear Data --> Check for update again. Rinse, repeat.
The roll out is released based on your IMEI as you can guess this puts a lot of stress on Google's server if they just release to everyone all at once. If you're not getting it now, it'll show up eventually. Just keep mashing that check update button.
If your bootloader is unlocked and you have a custom recovery, you can flash the official OTA yourself:

XBMC on HTC One X:
Can't wait til all the devs start fixing the bugs on this.
If you want to download the APK and try it on your phone just remember this is a WIP and not final:

Hrm...son of a...got some gremlins in the dialer for the S3.
So, if I'm dialing my voicemail and access the keypad, if my finger comes close to the pressing a number? The screen goes black. It is so weird. It is like a game of chicken with the phone.

Make sure you're not casting a shadow on the ambient light sensor. On my Gnex it's right next to the front facing camera. It'll think you're putting it to your ear.
That or it's bugged lol.

Yeah, that is it. Figured it out this morning...I went into options and disabled the turn-off screen function. When my hand was moving towards the keypad, the sensor was picking it up and thus, blacking out the screen.

Unofficial CM10 running on my Galaxy S. Most everything works!
International version:

Vibrant:

Captivate:

The international and Captivate version are very similar. The Vibrant has a few more bugs than the others. Check your appropriate device for CM10 builds to see if they're up. XDA is getting pounded right now.

Need root and custom recovery. These are unofficial CM10 builds but are very damn close to stable. So far, the only major issue I've been having is that the Home launcher crawls after a few open/closes but everything else runs fine once the app is launched. Not sure why yet. Gotta check my logcats but its expected at this stage. At this point though, CM10 official nightlies are close since these are built off their repos so I'm guessing either by the end of this week or next, we'll start seeing official CM10 nightlies. Oh and yes Google Now works perfectly! This will hold me off til I get my Nexus back hopefully by the end of this week. Still waiting to hear on what's happening on their end.

Lol. ODIN is your friend for Samsung phones. Makes installing a custom recovery and root very easy. Just watch some YouTube videos and sort it by upload date. The hardest part is installing the drivers and if you have to, setting up the Android SDK but those are a one time thing unless you format your computer.
If you're having issues with the recent update, I always recommend a factory reset. Its just the nature of updates since some old stuff gets left behind that probably didn't get cleaned off properly. If that still doesn't work and you're under your warranty period, return it and get it replaced. Tell them the phone has been acting up since the update. You can get a brand new one.

For AT&T users who want to enable 3G Video calling on GTalk, the app I used no longer works in Jelly Bean:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...GtlbmFibGVyIl0.
^You need root to use the above app for ICS and below.
The method that worked for me is as follows:
If your ROM doesn't have SQLite3 installed, download and install SQLite Installer for Root
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...TNmb3Jyb290Il0.
Install SQLite3 into /sys/bin/ or /sys/xbin/. Doesn't matter really its more for organization.
Once you have SQLite3 installed, you will need to open up terminal either on the phone or on your computer with USB debugging on the phone. Enter the following commands:
You should now be able to use GTalk on AT&T's 3G/LTE. The method above is what the app does but unfortunately it hasn't been updated in a while and doesn't seem to work on Jelly Bean. It works on ICS and below though.

Got a message that my SGIISkyrocket could be upgraded to ICS. But only through a USB connection. Kies has to be updated too before you get the upgrade. But when you try to upgrade Kies you get into this loop. "Installing" then previous models of Kies must be deleted. You do that crap, and over and over the same message.
I went into regedit to clear all the Samsung crap out. No luck.

ugh i had to work with kies mini to try to get a user's samsung infuse upgraded to 2.3. Failed every time, regardless of what I tried including creating a fresh VM of windows XP (that failed at the exact point as outside the VM). Luckily I didnt brick the phone.

Yeah Kies is a POS. Unfortunately, its been like that as far as I can remember. If you're willing to learn a little, you could flash the update via ODIN manually. Just have to find the ODIN file at XDA. It flashes the same way that Kies does without the BS. You will need the Drivers that come with Kies and ODIN itself then put the phone into Download Mode:

Stock ICS 4.0.4 ODIN file:

Old video tutorial but the same idea applies:
Don't forget to backup your internal SD files just in case!

Thanks all... revo didn't work on my normal laptop.
I finally got my daughter's old Dell and after about 20 minutes I was able to get the latest version of Kies.
Then it was plug and play... ICS on a G2 Skyrocket. Not bad. It came with Froyo... ATT OTA updated to Gingerbread, and by wire an update to ICS.
Sucker seems faster, but I know that's in my mind. Kid in the candy store with it seems almost like a new phone.
