There's a status update on the Android Facebook page saying they've identified the problem and are working on a fix

This will definitely drain the battery as its constantly using the internet and polling every second for updates.

Here's the Facebook 1.2 apk for the people that want to downgrade:

Just download and install via a file explorer or ADB.
Thanks dude. I upgraded to the new version two days ago and have noticed my battery life went to utter shit, couldn't pinpoint it though. I have an HTC HD2 1500mah battery that has been lasting me longer than the original until just then, fits right up in the Aria.

Well gotta commend Facebook for fixing the problem quickly.

Hi folks, we just released an updated version of the Facebook for Android app (version 1.3.1) that includes a fix for the battery drain problem some of you were running into. The app is now available in Android Market. You may need to wait a little bit for Android Market to send out the update notification. Thanks for all the quick feedback and thanks for your patience as we got this bug fixed!

PayPal also updated their app. It looks pretty sleek. You can make transactions using Bump. I hope this is the start of a trend for better looking apps on Android. Although, the alternatives are still pretty decent.

Yeah Swype's been around for a while now. If you use a lot of common words then it works perfectly. But if you like to write in txt language then it might be a little getting used to. I personally switch between Swype and Smart Keyboard Pro. (Gotta love Android's flexibility on keyboards.)

I find Swype awful when it comes to web browsing and entering passwords so I switch out to a normal keyboard but thats to be expected. Also, it probably works a lot better with a bigger screen as swiping wont have to be as precise.

I've used the HTC IME, Better Keyboard, ShapeWriter (Swype clone), Smart Keyboard Pro and Swype. Out of all of them, I found Smart Keyboard Pro to be the most universal in terms of usage. It has the best customizable dictionary and word prediction. Its also not bloated like Better Keyboard has gotten so its good on my phone since I'm limited with RAM. With that said, I still type faster with Swype when I write normally, but Smart Keyboard Pro comes very close and it has multitouch support.

I use Swype on my droid. Works pretty good. It is useless for usernames/passwords as CGFebTSX04 stated but that's the beauty of it. Just because you can swype doesn't mean you have to, you can type normally as well. I haven't looked back at the stock keyboard since I installed Swype about a month ago.

Here's a shot of the new HTC Desire HD :

Source: http://www.androidcentral.com/first-...-pic-leaks-out

And there it is, folks, a picture of what reportedly is the HTC Desire HD, which we've also seen referred to as the Ace and has already popped up in a Vodafone Germany inventory system. Sure looks like a mashup of the Desire and Evo 4G, doesn't it?

Anyhoo, the specs of this monster remain a 4.3-inch WVGA touchscreen, Android 2.2, an 8MP camera, 1Ghz processor, 720p video recording, 4GB of storage built in, and aluminum case, e-book reader, and all the other bells and whistles we've come to expect.

This one's expected for Europe sometime in October. [UWants via Android-HK] Thanks, Ricky!
Looks like the HTC HD2 but with Android. Probably still the Snapdragon processor. Was hoping it would come with the new dual cores HTC is planning to have by the end of the year.

^^^ You use swype on a moto droid? Swype is where you swipe/drag the line to text, right? I'm still patiently waiting on froyo to be released

Yeah. You can Swype on any Android device. I'm Swyping on a HTC Magic. Thats the beauty of Android. Just find the Swype apk and install it on your Droid. There's two version of the Swype apk, WVGA and HVGA. WVGA is for the bigger/higher res phones like the Droid, EVO, Nexus One, etc. HVGA are the low end phones like the Cliq, Magic/MT3G, etc. Since the Swype beta is closed, just search on Google for the size of your Android phone's screen. Download the apk and place it in your SD Card then install it using a file explorer or ADB. Latest version as of now is 1.56.30.7625. That should be more than enough info for you to find it.

The official Froyo is supposed to be coming the in the next couple of days. August 18 is the date right now. Why not root and install the other Froyo updates already available? Motorola and Verizon are insulting their customers saying the original Droid is incapable of wireless tether.

DUDE that's awesome! Couldn't I just download it straight to my phone, using my phone, and use Astro to install?

Yes and yes. Look at my edited post for newest version. I don't think we're allowed to link warez here. Well its not warez but the beta is closed and don't want to get in trouble for posting it. Easy to find on Google though.

There's a lot...I mean it depends where you want to start. I would learn how to root the phone to get the full potential of it. You can install Froyo and beyond without having to wait for Verizon to give you the updates. Warning though, there is a possibility of bricking your phone so learn how to do it properly. Most techniques now, however, make it very easy to root so its very difficult to brick unless you decide to pull the battery while its flashing. lol.

Search http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-development/ and http://www.droidforums.net/forum/android-roms/ for info. Someone else in here has a Moto Droid so they can give you their input about some cool custom ROMs for the Droid.

Android phones are similar in terms of procedure of rooting and installing custom ROMs so its a matter of getting familiar with one technique then applying it to all other Android phones. That's why I have a general idea of how to customize other and new Android phones coming out.

Check out a few pages before where I posted some app suggestions. psx4droid just came out and you can try that. Also, Android has a 24 hour trial for any app in the store. So you can always buy it then refund it within 24 hours if you don't like the app. Read the previous pages for some good info.

Why not root it and install custom ROMs. Its your backup phone right? Install some custom ROMs in it so you can see what the real Android is all about. Not the crippled Motorola and Verizon experience Android. lol. You can get all the new features like wireless tethering without having to pay extra...

Okay check the Swype under Language and Keyboard. Now open any text input like messaging. Where you can type, Press and hold --> Input Method --> Swype.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ae9iw0VIU4

If you're scared about rooting, search YouTube for tutorials. Pretty much, the YouTube videos are spot on. Once you're rooted, it's very difficult to brick the phone. Installing Custom ROMs will not make you brick your phone. So get past installing the Android SDK and rooting/installing a custom recovery such as Clockwork or Amon RA's on your phone and you can go crazy with the custom ROMs. I flash 2-3 a week to try out different ones. lol.

Try here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698319

Make sure you uninstall the old one to avoid any conflicts. Download the apk. Drag it into your SD Card. Install with Astro. Change keyboards.

Nice. Yeah. I mean rooting is not really necessary for Android. You can do 90% of what you want without it. You can play emulators, USB tether and pretty much the basic stuff without root.

Rooting will allow you to install some cool custom ROMs with features disabled by the carrier like Wireless Tethering. You can overclock/underclock the phone using SetCPU (I think they have the droid at 1.2 GHz now?), and theming the bars, icons, clocks and anything you can think of. You'll also get the new Android updates ahead of time instead of waiting for the carrier to deliver the crippled version. And you can always unroot if you need to.

Read the pages before where we discussed all these things and some cool apps. If you haven't downloaded TiKL yet, its pretty cool. It makes your phone like a Nextel walkie talkie and it uses up data not minutes. Should check it out. It works Android to Android for now. They're still in approval process for the iPhone.

Yeah but it would just say it randomly when its not in landscape, but I just flipped to landscape and saw the keyboard is way too short and all that shit. I have word prediction turned off.

I'm not sure. If I see anything about it I'll let you know. PM rza49311 and ask him if he has the same issues. If not, see if you can get the install file from him.

Check out this thread: http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-de...=690871&page=2

Try installing that version of Swype and see it happens again. If it does, then its a bug.

I saw this on sprintusers.com ... is anyone over here having flash issues since they downloaded froyo?

Froyo gives us Flash Beta NOT 10.1 / HTML5 or FLash 10.1

here's the link:

Just post your Qs here and I'll help with what I can. With that said, the next couple weeks are gonna be busy for me. Tests and finals coming up.

They're still in approval process for the iPhone.
one of my friends has this and he said its pretty righteous!
