It also should've had Eclair at the minimum. I don't understand why Android devices are still coming out with Donut as the base. Sure it'll get an upgrade, but there's so much competition right now and Donut is just old school at this point. I mean Gingerbread is supposed to start leaking around October. I'm interested in this device but I want to see just how much Dell supports it first like many others. I'll probably pick one up later in the year if they're still around.

^ I agree... they released it to the European market 1st, where it was a big seller... not so sure about the U.S. market, they may have waited too long and these are some fickle folks, plus dell is not know for anything but computer systems... really good ones, mind you, but no small, consumer products... at least none that I would use...

If this is true, just wow. This will change all of the mobile phone and gaming market.

Here's what we can tell you about the hardware: if you're a gaming fan, this is exactly the kind of phone you've been waiting for. The device is described as cross between the Samsung Captivate and the PSP Go -- in other words, it's a landscape slider with game controls in place of the typical QWERTY keyboard. The D-pad is here, but instead of the small joystick, the device will have what was described as a "long touch pad" for analog controls, along with standard PSP buttons and shoulder buttons. The phone has a large display, described as being between 3.7 and 4.1 inches with WVGA or better resolution, a 5 megapixel camera that we're told might not be final, and it'll likely have a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU on board. The phone is mostly black with some silver highlights, and the gamepad area is white / silver in color. Apparently it's currently branded as a Xperia device, but it looks like it will carry PlayStation branding as well. Those who've seen the phone say it looks "pretty damn sexy." The mockup above probably doesn't do the actual hardware justice, but it should give you an idea of what you'll be dealing with.

Not just iPhone, the 3DS will be in trouble too! Think of all the possibilities of a PSP gaming system with Android at the core. All the homebrew emulators with a native controller and it being able to run Android apps. Its like the hybrid phone/gaming device everyone dreams about. lol.
Here's a leaked pic of the Droid 2 R2D2 edition:

Wonder how the front looks like and what kind of special features they might have. They should've made it a little rustier looking instead of just plain white but not too bad looking.

Google just updated their Voice Search App with Action commands:
Sorce: http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/201...e-actions.html
It seems to only work in Froyo and I can't get it to install in CM 6 right now. Gonna have to wait until Cyanogen makes some modifications in his ROM or someone hacks the app to remove the signature check.

Speak any of these commands to perform a Voice Action on your phone:
•send text to [contact] [message]
•listen to [artist/song/album]
•call [business]
•call [contact]
•send email to [contact] [message]
•go to [website]
•note to self [note]
•navigate to [location/business name]
•directions to [location/business name]
•map of [location]
And of course, you can still conduct a Google search using your voice.
If you have another phone with Android 2.2 (like the Nexus One, HTC Evo or the original Droid), you’ll need to download several app updates from Android Market to get all the latest goodness:
•Voice Search (this app includes Voice Actions)
•Google Search widget
•music apps (e.g. Pandora, Last.fm, Rdio, mSpot)

Most apps are around 1-3 MB big with some games hitting 100 MB like the Need for Speed, Asphalt, Sims 3, etc. So 32 GB will take a long time to fill if you use the phone that way. But with the movie rental apps coming out, like Netflix, it might be worth it in the future when you want to purchase digital movies if they let you.

Here's a video on the Chrome to Phone feature in Froyo if you guys haven't been using it:
Source: http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/201...inks-maps.html
This also works with Firefox to Phone: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/161941/
Ever wanted a way to quickly and easily send links and other information from your desktop or laptop to your phone to view on the go? The new Chrome to Phone extension adds a button to your Google Chrome browser that instantly sends the current web page, map, YouTube video, or selected phone number or text to your Android device running Froyo (or Android 2.2).

Oh wow Vlingo has decided to make their app free on the market due to Google releasing the Voice Actions update! It does all the features of Google's Voice Actions plus a few more like reading text to you when it comes in and it doesn't require Froyo.
http://blog.vlingo.com/voiceactions/
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.vlingo.client
But saying we have something to offer is not as compelling as showing it—so following Google’s lead we’ve decided to make our product free on Android effective immediately so you can compare for yourself. Also—since Voice Actions only runs on 2.2 and above, we don’t want 2.0 and 2.1 users to feel they don’t have any options until they upgrade.

More R2D2 Droid 2 pictures and confirmed to be released on September 30:

What do you guys think about the design? I'm not sure I'm feeling the two tone colors going on with cell phone these days. If you're gonna make it white, why not white all around? Is it really that much more expensive to paint the rest of the phone? The design is passable though, it should've been hand painted or a silhouette to make it feel more limited. At least its easy to replicate if you feel left out. Haha.

And just like that XDA has figured out how to make it work with CM 6 roms. Played around with Vlingo too and its pretty nice. You have to uninstall the old Voice Search and Google Search apps.
How to uninstall in CM 6 ROMs (2 Methods):
Using ADB Shell:
Open up a command prompt or terminal on your computer and input the following commands (Backs up the old app to your Desktop). And yes you can copy and paste these commands:
Using terminal on your phone (Doesn't backup the old file):
When its done uninstalling, download the apps from the market.

Gonna play around with this to see how well it works. So far its awesome! The voice prompt interface looks nicer.

I'd like the Chrome extension since that's what I use on my browser but not seeing that happen to iPhone.
As for 32GB. Put a few movies on there, apps, and music and it'll go pretty fast. You could get by with streaming apps from your laptop or cloud apps if you were short on space but the quality and time to load suffer.

Looks like Oracle is suing Google over some of the Java, ahem, "open source" coding in the Android operating system. First HTC gets sued by apple and now this.. This is precisely why I think there needs to be serious patent reform when it comes to tech patents these days.

funny thing is, these patent overlaps have been there for years, I really wonder why this would happen on the heels of Android taking over the market in just 3 years???...

I know I sound like a n00b, but can you replicate the Sense look on a Samsung with Launcher Pro? I might buy a Epic but I don't like Touchwiz (I played around with a Vibrant), I think Sense looks cooler and works better for me. If I can't then I'll just get an Evo because I don't really wanna mess with it and do all kinds of technical shiz. The screen looks almost as good as the Super Amoled one, and it's fast enough for me stock .

With LauncherPro Plus, the app launcher won't look like the iPhone's app launcher and you can get the HTC widgets like the Calendar, People, and Messaging widgets. As for the Weather Widget, I don't think you can get the same exact one. However, if you look for an app called Fancy Widgets in Google, you can get something close to it. Personally, I use Beautiful Widgets which is more customizable and has more themes and utilization than the Sense Weather Widget. Also, the app drawer won't look the same (The black bottom bar with the + and the arrow up icon thingy in the Sense UI). You'll get the Nexus One app launcher lookalike. Although, if someone does decide to theme the LauncherPro app launcher, they can make it look like it.
Apps that are unique to Sense also won't work such as Footprints, Peep (Twitter client), Friendstream (Widget for status updates) and a few others I can't remember right now. Most of the apps that come with Sense UI, Motoblur or Touch Wiz UI are unique to those skins. With that said, they're usually bloatware and not necessarily something you can't live without. Alternatives are also available in the market for the same functions if not better.
Also note that the Sense UI, TouchWiz UI Android phones are limited when it comes to connecting Wiimote controllers right now. The app creator hasn't been able to access the bluetooth stack to allow HID devices (keyboards, mouse, wiimote) with the Sense, TouchWiz UI. I'm not sure he ever will because the bluetooth drivers are usually not open source. This can be corrected with the Vanilla Android phones though like CyanogenMod 6 and whatever other ROMs are created from AOSP (the original source code handed out by Google for Android).
Here's a vid of what Launcher Pro looks like with the Galaxy phones (All the buttoms at the bottom app launcher are customizable):

My internet went out for almost 24 hours so I was being productive. lol. Landlord didn't put in electricity at his place and wasn't able to get electricity until a few minutes ago so the modem wasn't on. Not good when I'm trying to research things online. With that said, I only have 6 more days down here!

I played with the droid 2. Didn't care for the buttons which are supposed to be better. Did come with Froyo though. Flash worked on the rockband.com home page but took forever to load. Hulu still doesn't work.

Cool. Yeah, I'm not a fan of the design on the Droids. Droid 2 is good only if you don't have the original Droid. Not much has changed really with Droid 2. It may have a faster processor but you can overclock the original Droid to get close to the same speed. Plus Ninjablur Not a fan of any of the custom Android skins. Wish they would just leave it up to the user to install them in the Market or something instead of making the phone ugly. And they also locked the bootloader so no custom ROMs for a while.
