That's awesome! Can you link me to which ROM you're using? I might look into this. I think the Telstra HD2 has AT&T 3G bands. My girlfriend surprisingly wants the HD2 to replace her 3GS. Gotta figure out if the Telstra version will work with the same ROMs as the T-Mobile's and I'm assuming yes with a few minor modifications for the bands.

Looks like not much has changed since the HTC Wizard days of running Android on the HD2. HaRet and zImage files on top of a WM6 ROM booting from the SD Card. Now this has me thinking about which phone to get. lol. Could triple boot into WM6, Android and WM7 in the future.

Nice. Will keep it in mind. The prices of the Telstra HD2 seem to be up there with the Galaxy S. Wish it was $100 cheaper then I'd consider jumping on it. We'll see how it goes in a few weeks. WM7 is a wildcard since we don't know how good it will be yet.

They're already making progress with Froyo on the Galaxy S so its looking real appealing at the moment especially since it has the better overall hardware and GPU which is most likely going to be crucial with Android's gaming future.

Some bad news for the Slide owners:

http://twitter.com/cyanogen/status/19917335016

I think the Slide is the most hacker unfriendly phone out there
Cyanogen and his team are having a hard time getting CM6 onto the Slide. But I don't think they've given up just yet. Hopefully, they can figure it out.

Remember how you guys asked whether or not that $150 Augen Android Tablet from K-Mart can run Froyo? How about CyanogenMod 6?

Source: http://twitter.com/thedudesandroid

He has a lot more pics of the mod in there. Right now he's just playing around with it so who knows it might become a full blown project. He's one of the contributors to the CyanogenMod.

A little of topic, but if it can be done Droid does...

In my contacts, it's up to me to set the name, phone number, address, associated picture, etc.

Wouldn't it be nice if the person calling, pushed their info and you could "accept" it to you phone in the contact list? I mean I know I can add an incoming call to the contact list, but I want all of their info and a pic without doing the work myself.

Somebody create the app, and all I want is 1% of the royalities.

Oh but there is an app already. Its called Bump. Works with Android to Android, Android to iPhone and vice versa. You literally bump the phones together to exchange info its pretty neat.

Lol. I haven't thought of an app that hasn't been covered in some form yet. The only thing lacking is the gaming apps but that'll change as Android gains momentum. Plus the emulators will cover most of my gaming for me any way. There's also plenty of flash websites online to play games on once Froyo is pushed out to all phones.

Btw. How are you liking the Captivate? XDA has an early Froyo build for the phone already...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734871

I got Bump last night with my wife for our iPhones. Very nice feature and instant texting. Do we have to be in the same local network for this to work?

Don't believe so. Else, it would be kinda pointless to use when meeting new people. From their FAQs:

http://bu.mp/faq

Q: Why do I get the message "No Match" when I try to bump with my friend?
A: The "No Match" message simply means that our servers couldn't connect your two devices. In order for Bump to successfully identify your device and match it with the device you are trying to connect with, it needs 2 things up and running on your phone.

1) A valid Internet connection over either 3G, Edge, or Wifi. Please check your connectivity by opening a browser on your device and navigating to an outside page. If your connection is slow or spotty, Bump could have difficulties connecting to our servers.

2) Valid location information. Bump uses the device's location as part of the matching process. Sometimes the GPS or Maps app will report old or invalid location information, in which case Bump won't work. Please check that the location information is correct by going to the Maps application and viewing your current location. If it is not correct, turn on your GPS and select 'My Location' which should update your phone to reflect your current location.
So as long as you have an internet connection of some kind you can exchange info.

For those that don't check Engadget or around the internet. lol.

http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/04/n...n-smartphones/

Android OS finally outsold the iOS in Q2. I guess there's a lot of variables in there like people waiting for iPhone 4 not being accounted into it. But you can also say the same thing regarding the other Android phones that just came out like the sold out HTC Evo, Galaxy phones and the Droid X. Either way, the competition is heating up and I'm sure Apple isn't just sitting down waiting around.

Well this is interesting, Vonage just released an app that does VoIP to Android or iPhone users free via WiFi or 3G/4G data and ties it to your Facebook friends. I'm not sure what the catch is...

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2367377,00.asp

It doesn't ask for any credit card info so I'm not sure how they're paying for all of this. It also works internationally for free calls...Sounds too good to be true. This is what the Skype app should've been. I can't find the catch yet. Will update if I hear anything.

Is Facebook paying for it? I downloaded it but none of my friends know about this yet. Apparently it works with any mobile phone too. Us Apple and Android users have an actual app for it but if you have a data plan or wifi on your phone you can do it online. This could put a big hurt in some companies since many people have data and Facebook.

What I like too is that I can finally use the Facebook IM tool.

I'm pretty sure those numbers include 1.7 million iPhone 4 sales. they like to release the iPhone at the end of the quarter.

Yeah. Don't know how Vonage is doing it. lol. I haven't installed it yet. Still waiting to see what others are saying. One of the comments in the Android Market said that it asks permission to your wall to post ads at any time but I don't know how true that is. If its true, then that's probably how they're doing it for free.

In other news Nimbuzz for Android just got updated! They finally added a dialer and you can use your Skype subscription to make phone calls since Fring got blocked by Skype. So I guess I'll hold off on the Vonage since I have a Skype subscription any way. Before this update you had to manually add each person onto your Skype contacts list to dial out to them using Skype Out.

"The number was about 100,000 (a day) about two months ago," Schmidt said. "It looks like Android is not just phenomenal but incredibly phenomenal in its growth rate. God knows how long that will continue."
Source: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-20...=2547-1_3-0-20

Google is now saying they're selling 200,000 Android devices a day! That's insane! Thats some crazy exponential growth. They started off at 60,000 in Q1 then 100,000 by mid Q2 and now theyre at 200,000 a day. They haven't even fully shipped Froyo to all phones yet and not everyone knows what Android is yet. Gingerbread should be coming in around November, December or so they say. And rumor is the next build after Gingerbread is going to be called Honeycomb. It also looks like that guy making the claim has some pics coming up as well of the future of Android...

You heard it here first. The official name after gingerbread is... "Honeycomb"

I hate my Eris, its such a slow piece of shit all of a sudden. The phone doesn't even light up when I take it away from my ear after someone hangs up, and when I click certain contacts it goes to a message thread with a completely different person and all of this other insane bullshit.

Root it and install a custom ROM. They already have Froyo builds out for the phone. Stock ROMs are good but the custom ROMs are a lot more optimized and have extra features disabled by the carriers. The Droid Eris is considered Verizon's low tier phone so don't expect any support from them especially since they don't sell it any more. Their babies are the high end Droid devices. They could care less about the Eris. Not all Android phones are created equally and you gotta research which phone is the best. May be a good and a bad thing. Personally, I'm all for choice and its just a matter of being informed of making the correct purchase. Besides that point though, rooting is not that hard and I prefer running custom ROMs instead of waiting for the carrier to update my phone when they just disable a lot of the cool features any way. You'll appreciate Android better with the custom ROMs and its open source nature especially with the Cyanogen ROMs.

Its basically an app that you install on the Android phone and the iPhone. Then it uses a server to exchange the info between the phones. Its kinda like a bluetooth transfer of contacts without the mess of bluetooth connect. Just a simple click what info you want to send out via the clouds and bump.

For those experiencing battery drains recently. It might be due to the new Facebook update:

Source: http://geekfor.me/news/facebook-1-3-wakelock/

Just having Facebook installed on your phone isn’t going to cause the Wake Lock. It isn’t getting set until you actually run the application and log in. From there on your phone isn’t going to sleep properly until you restart your phone or until Android kills the task.

Apparently, Facebook still has a bunch of noob Android programmers and isn't allowing the phone to sleep when you run the app. They probably did this to get the notifications on time but didn't understand the consequences of doing it using this method. The options right now are to downgrade to 1.2 or wait until Facebook updates their app again. Or in this case, a task killer would be appropriate. Froyo has one built in if you didn't already know.

One last to get started with the custom ROMs and rooting:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742228

It really can't get any easier than that. You just install the app, run it, then flash any custom ROM. Probably take 10 mins max including first time boot. You may lose your app data flashing to a custom ROM and text mesages unless you back them up.

So it connects to the internet to send the info??

When I was at Vegas during CES my phone couldn't get online at all. So I dunno how it would've transferred the info. Also how does it know what phone to send to? Does it access your gps?

Actually nvm I just remembered the process to send info..
But still doesn't explain how it sent data when I had no connection..

Yeah she does but its not as plenty as the other Android phones. Right now, they're working on getting Eclair on the phone and they seem to have stable builds. There's a thread on a Froyo build coming along so I'm sure they'll be able to get it done eventually.

Custom ROMs available:
http://modmymobile.com/forums/403-mo...t-development/

A site with different Custom ROMs being reviewed:
http://blog.handlerexploit.com/

How to Root and install a Custom ROM:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npkpx56SHdo

The tutorial above requires the Android SDK installed. Once rooted and the custom recovery installed, you can install pretty much any custom ROM that you can find and you can find a bunch of different kinds on YouTube to see what features they have. Also note that if you root you might not get the official updates from the T-Mobile if that matters. lol. However you can always downgrade back to stock so it shouldn't be an issue. Motorola is supposedly in the "testing phase" of the official Eclair ROM so who knows when that'll come out.

I worked yesterday with a guy who has an EVO, he said the FB pushes thru every single notification in real time... that's not gonna help your battery..LOL... wonder if you can turn that feature off???

When I was at Vegas during CES my phone couldn't get online at all. So I dunno how it would've transferred the info. Also how does it know what phone to send to? Does it access your gps?

Actually nvm I just remembered the process to send info..
But still doesn't explain how it sent data when I had no connection..
it does use the gps... I read that the other day... may use a local wifi connection too...

The notifications can be turned off or even prolonged in terms of polling for notifications so it doesn't check every minute to save battery. The problem with the current Facebook update is that it doesn't allow the phone to sleep. If the guy who published the article is correct, the Facebook app is basically always on even when the screen is turned off or when you minimize it to the background instead of being paused and active only when you choose to see it. This will definitely drain the battery as its constantly using the internet and polling every second for updates.

Here's the Facebook 1.2 apk for the people that want to downgrade:

Just download and install via a file explorer or ADB.
