I wanted to say at first that it didn't look like Artest knew Harden was there as Artest was looking at the crowd. But Harden brushed against Ron's back & the arm came around.

The irony of his new name though with that foul.

Looks like he may have to change his name from 'World Peace' to (at least) 'Regional Conflict'.

MWP is still trying to play the elbow off as "unintentional".

I saw the play as it happened and it wasn't until I saw replays that it looked pretty intentional to me. Had he extended his swing a bit more, he would've hit Hardin right where the spine meets the brain (which would've been an illegal blow in MMA).

I'm willing to bet he's suspended the entire first round of playoffs.

That's what a lot of the reports are guessing, 5 games at the minimum. This could my team out somewhat if we can beat Atlanta. I don't think Denver will be able to hold off OKC at their home. They might win against the Timberwolves, though.

on one hand... it's pretty obvious it was intentional, but on the other hand, I want to say he didn't intended on such a hard hit. Because he would know ahead of time that's going to be automatic suspension.... and NO one wants to be suspended especially with the playoffs in less than a week. I'm NOT defending him, but I really do think part of it was in the heat of the moment when he scored, and did the whole chest pump thing and was just having an adrenaline rush, when he felt the presence of someone near him (most likely knowing who it was), he wanted to shove him out of the way, but didn't anticipate Harden head being there.

Because seriously, why would ANYONE intent on hurting someone like that in front of ALL those people and cameras?

But no, it was still unsportsmanlike and he deserves what's coming

Definitely. If the Lakers match up against the Mavs, having MWP out against the Mavs is going to have a significant impact.

Say what you will about MWP, but his "craziness" and size makes him valuable for the Lakers.

And I agree IS350eater. It looked like in the heat of the moment and he just lost it.... Just a really stupid move by MWP - if you watched the game, at half time you could tell that Magic Johnson was genuinely upset that a Laker would take such a class-less cheap shot (he also pointed to the Bynum/Barea incident last year). And Magic RARELY gets upset... I mean whens the last time you saw Magic without a smile on his face?

Edit: My friend's (die hard laker fan) tweet today: "Hardin should be suspended for fouling Ron Artest's elbow with his head!"

Dude has a history of mental problems. This is the same guy that asked his teammate if they'd get in trouble after Malice at the Palace, lol. He's not a bad guy, just tends to make shitty decisions in the heat of the moment like that elbow.

Rather convenient for the Lakers though, since OKC was missing their best playmaker the rest of the game. -__-

Meh. Overreaction by many and the league office is again going to be swayed by popular opinion. The suspension shouldn't go over 3 games, but people want blood. Its Ron Artest, its the Lakers.

One week, people on sports talk are saying the Clippers should stick up for Blake Griffin and take someone out, tit-for-tat. Then Ron Artest does this exact thing for his team and the same people are saying he should be burned at the stake.

I still think he's a complete idiot and was wrong for doing that, but I think he's going to be punished to an epic extent. Let's face it, if David Stern is bowing to the billionaires that own small market teams, the Lakers are going to get hosed....again.

My humble opinion...Artest's idiocy notwithstanding, still a great win and great game by the Lakers.

Here is my opinion of the play. Artest knew that somebody was there, just didn't know who it was, because him and and harden touched arms. Although it could be at the spur of the moment things. I think it was very intentional. not only his elbow was parallel to his face but he followed through catching the backside of his head. Then after he just hustled back on D not checking up on the guy. Showing sportsmanship has died in competitive play in any sport. The only reason why Artest apologized on National TV so he doesn't get suspended even more.by the Lakers and the league. I understand how Magic can be embarrassed as he is the representative of the Lakers. As much as Lakers fans would hate this but i think 5 games should be a minimum to make a example. Just because of Ron Artest's past. I would same the same if it were Lebron, Wade or Bosh. its not wanted in the NBA. Don't get me wrong im all for competitive play and some hard fouls. But those type of fouls are not excusable.

^^I agree for the most part. It was intentional in action, even if that wasn't the intended result. I don't think there was much going on in Ron's head at that point, if ever.

But in terms of some precedent, Aaron Afflalo elbowed Gordon Hayward just as intentionally if not more intentionally this year. He only got 1 game. Now I understand Aaron isn't as dangerous as Ron, but in terms of intent, its similar.

During the playoffs in 06 I think, Raja Bell laid out Kobe Bryant with a blatant clothesline and celebrated and taunted him afterward. 1 game suspension.

Invariably, Ron's gonna be judged on being Ron, but if it were just for the action, I think it should be 3 games or at least not more than 1 series.

Even though he may or may not have not wanted to put Harden into a concussion, He had full intention of making a statement in a wrong way. Although i see the points of the other players getting minor suspensions, but something needs to be done. this type of play can change the fate of the playoffs. Not just for the Heat but for the other teams as well.

^^but there are a number of tough guys that make statements the wrong way. KG and Perkins have played ugly since 2008. If you are going to treat one team that way, you have to treat all teams that way.

This is all moot anyways, and I think we only slightly disagree. The fact that the league is taking this long to come out with a 'sentence' makes me think the league will lean your way more than mine.

Same thinking I had....MWP initially felt somebody brushed against his back and fully swung that elbow to James Harden's head. Additionally when he was being confronted by Ibaka he was in his fighting stance and ready to rumble!

^^sounds about right.

And to add to things, Matt Barnes has a slight ligament tear in his ankle and Devin Ebanks dropped a dumbbell on his left hand at Laker practice today. I'm not making this stuff up....no small forwards for at least the last game against Sacramento. Kobe will slide over to that position, I'm sure.

So how many games did this warrant?

fun starts at the 1:20 mark:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyZow...ayer_embedded#!

Most elbows previous to the Ron Ron one warranted 1 games.

There are a bunch here that recently only warranted 1 game:

http://celticshub.com/2010/04/18/sho...flying-elbows/

However, given Ron Ron's history and the NFL and now the NBA's worry about concussions, 7 games is probably about right. Some wanted more, others (like me) thought it should be less, given that no other players were punished to that extent. Now that its been passed down, the Lakers should be happy that it wasn't more and get on to the business of the playoffs.

However, if this is the way its going to go, any thrown elbows should also be more than 5 games. Just because Ron connected doesn't differentiate him from those who intended to cause harm with a thrown elbow. Its the same thing, just a miss.

MJ is about to set a new record to add to his glorious achievements

Jordan's Bobcats could set NBA record for worst winning percentage

As the NBA ends its regular season Thursday night, one team has a chance to join its owner, Michael Jordan, in the league record books.

The only problem is, while Jordan is at the top of those records, his team could be at the bottom.

If the Charlotte Bobcats lose to the New York Knicks at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Thursday night, they will finish the regular season with the worst winning percentage in league history: .106 on a record of 7 wins, 59 losses. That would be worse than the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers, who finished at .110 (9-73). There is a difference in the number games because this NBA season was shortened by a labor dispute between the league and its players.

The Bobcats are also on a 22-game losing streak. With a loss Thursday night, they'll tie the 1997-98 Denver Nuggets and the 1995-96 Vancouver Grizzlies for the second-longest losing streak in NBA history. Only the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers have strung more losses in a row, 26.

In an interview Wednesday with the Charlotte Observer, Jordan said the Bobcats season will tarnish his legacy, which includes six championships and five Most Valuable Player awards.

“My success will be judged differently,” Jordan told the paper. “I’ve come to accept I’ll be scrutinized more than any other owner. I know now that I have to have a tough skin about these things.”

But there is reason for optimism in Charlotte, win or lose Thursday night. With the league's worst record, the Bobcats have a 25% chance of getting the top pick in this summer's NBA draft. Of course, they have to win that lottery to get the top pick, and there's still a 75% chance they won't.

FWIW, Kobe's sitting out the meaningless game in Sacto, thus giving Kevin Durant the scoring title.

Also, I'm headed to a Clipper playoff game.
