So, who wants to wager he'll mysteriously not feel well when the Dodgers have to face an ace pitcher (i.e. Webb, Zambrano, Sabathia, Sheets, etc.)...?

Acuatally, I have only been to a few Dodger games, but I always seem to go to Phillipe's on game day and the place is packed with fans in Dodger Blue.
*Phillipe's is a local eatery specializing in French Dip sandwiches

Wow. At least The Yankees won't have to deal with him punishing our team anymore.

Hello LA, enjoy your new cancer. Make sure you tell the travelling secretary to get Manny all the tickets he wants or else.
It's really weird to see the way Boston has turned on him with his latest rounds of nonsense. The biggest problem with Manny is that he doesn't actually like the game of baseball. He just likes to hit, he doesn't like to run, he doesn't like to field.
He's definitely not the greatest or even one of the greatest baseball players ever to wear the Red Sox uniform, but he's definitely one of the greatest hitters.
Thanks for the 2 championships but it's time to move on.

Looking back over those 4 games, the White Sox are the whiniest team in the majors, bar none. It starts with the classless announcers always picking on the umps, and it trickles down to the players showing up the home plate ump game in and game out. Konerko, Thome, Dye, Swisher, Crede, even the backups like Wise, always pouting about close strike calls. And you know Guillen is chirping in off-color Spanglish the whole game. Between all the bitching, it's no wonder they don't get any favors from the umps.

It was a lose, lose for the Sox. No way they could get a player of Manny's caliber in return. Probably hoping for an addition by subtraction, which just isnt the case.
Dodgers still won't make the playoffs

true, but I believe most teams would still walk Ortiz in a close game to get to any of those guys unless they are on some hot streak...

I think Boston made out fine. They get Bay who is in his prime and has a reasonable 2 yr contract left over. Sure they lost a great player in Manny but distractions sometimes hurt a team. Bay was able to produce before this year in some pretty weak Pirate clubs. Imagine in what he'll do in this lineup. Plus Lowell has been hurt and in a nasty slump right now. Welcome to the postseason Bay.
The Dodgers are overloaded at OF. Maybe they'll just cut Andruw Jones and cut their losses? But yeah, Ethier, Manny, Pierre, Kemp, and Jones are too many chefs. Well if they make the WS, at least they'll have their DH. Loney is a steady hitter (around .300 all year), Martin is good, Casey Blake is has decent power 17/58. I think this was a good move for them since they lacked power.

Manny was not and is not and never will be a great player, all he does is hit the ball (extremely well).

I'd take Bay over Manny any day. You get a younger player who wants to play the game, better at defense and faster. He may not hit for power nearly as much, but he is much less of a liability. Imagine if it's the WS, 1 out and nobody on, losing 3-0, and Manny comes up, grounds to 3rd, and doesn't run it out. Jason Bay will run it out, and there is a 10% chance that throw may be wild or late. I'll take JB.

Actually the HOF for baseball does factor in character and sportsmanship. It's partially why McGwire didn't get in this year some say. But do you guys really think Manny won't run out a grounder in the WS?

Does that mean this is a terrible trade for the ChiSox? I dunno...I don't think Williams gave up that much in Richar and Masset. And there's a good chance Griffey may have a renaissance as he's finally on a contending team instead of some BOTTOM-DWELLING STINKER OF A TEAM KNOWN AS THE CINCY REDS (y'hear that, Scottfart111...?!?!??)...
So, I don't think this would hurt the ChiSox and if anything Griffey is an upgrade over Paulie's struggles at the plate and would give the team a chance to platoon him and Swisher at 1st.
Of course, I'd be much more giddy if Williams got a nice pitcher...but, ah well.

We only suck because of Dusty Baker. We'll be good when he's gone...you wait and see

I would cut Jones and Pierre. Both are old and worthless. The young guys need the playing time.

It's a close race as to who I hate most in baseball between him and Kent, but I think he pulls ahead

yeah not really.. stats are nearly identical
but the real difference comes in clutch situations.. Bay is hitting .216 with RISP compared to Manny's .309. Pitchers will gladly walk Ortiz to get to Bay.
It's a drop off anyway you look at it... how much we'll have to see.
