Damn....With 2 weeks left....
Slumping Brewers fire manager Ned Yost
<!-- END HEADLINE -->
<!-- BEGIN STORY BODY -->56 minutes ago
The Milwaukee Brewers fired manager Ned Yost on Monday with the team mired in a late-season slump that has jeopardized its chances of making the playoffs for the first time since 1982. Third-base coach Dale Sveum will become interim manager for the remainder of the season.
The Brewers share the NL wild-card lead with Philadelphia despite losing 11 of 14 in September, including seven of their last eight. Milwaukee was idle Monday.
"This was a very difficult move to make, and we appreciate all of the work that Ned has done to develop this team into a contender," general manager Doug Melvin said. "In the end, this was a collaborative decision made to put our club in the best position for the final two weeks of the season."
Milwaukee is hoping to avoid a repeat of last year's collapse. The Brewers held an 8 1/2-game lead in late June before sliding to 83-79 and missing the playoffs.
The Brewers kept up their playoff push even longer this season, boosted when they made a big splash on July 7 by getting ace CC Sabathia from Cleveland.
Sabathia, the reigning AL Cy Young winner, is 9-0 in 13 starts with six complete games and a 1.59 ERA.
Yost was in his sixth season as the Brewers' manager. When Milwaukee hired him from Atlanta after the 2002 season, the team was in the midst of four straight seasons with 94 losses or more.
But the next three seasons resulted in records of 81-81, 75-87 and 83-79, a marked improvement for a franchise that hadn't had a winning record since 1992.
Yost spent 12 years on the Braves' coaching staff with Bobby Cox, and Atlanta won division titles every year Yost was there except the strike-shortened 1994 season.

All joking aside, I think they probably will go hard after him. I think the METS did not have anything in the system to get a quality relief pitcher this season. For next season, I definitely see them going hard after a closer and an out-fielder. And then if they have anything left over, they will target a starting pitcher.

Brewers will fail once again.

Nice no hitter.
Even though I'm an Angels fan, I think K-Rod is overrated. I don't think the Angels will try hard to keep him and I won't be disappointed if he leaves. They also have at least one too many outfielders - so you can have Gary Mathews Jr., too.
After losing 7 of the last 8, it would be tough to be any worse.

I don't like the Yost firing. Sure they're slumping but I think you wait until the end of the year for that kind of move. I've never heard of in any sport firing a manager/coach while very much in contention.
I'd be nervous as a Mets fan. Not much cushion and Philly's on fire.

After last season, I'm OK. I think the METS did a lot more than could be expected with the hand they were dealt. I also think they have a better chance than most of the other teams vs the AL. Their interleague record is one of the 3 or 4 teams that actually had a winning record.
So, basically right now as much as I am rooting for the METS to win, I'm rooting for any team playing the Phillys, Astros and Brewers. Just in case.

I guess it could be a good strategy if you really think about it.
- Say certain players didn't like Yost as a person and/or his managing style. You fire him, those players are happy that he is gone.
- Say certain players did like him. Then they would be playing pissed off at the ownership and trying to win it all for Yost.
In theory it seems like a win-win, but I guess we will see.

I read the examples in the Sporting News daily mail that I get but I don't think they were in the lead. I highly recommend to any sports fan. It's a sports page in pdf. They even have daily info on every NFL team by a local reader. Great for fantasy.

Well, ChiSox against the Twips coming up soon...No sarcasm here since it is in the Metrodome where most teams go to die.
Season is decided there and in this series. Go ChiSox!

I was watching the METS game with my son as he was getting ready for bed and he looked at me and said "bas-ch-bawl." So I taught him to say "LETS GO METS!" He did the fist pump and everything. Poor bastard is a METS fan like his dad.
