Until the Penguins stop choking in the playoffs who gives a crap who they have on their top lines. If the don't win the Cup next season they should start the rebuild.

Pens will choke again this season....stay tuned for the meltdown and rebuild.
Teemu coming back....who cares? He's a Duck.
Hawks signing Crawford..... Does that contract come with a cutting torch to get his leg off the near post so he can get to the far post for the wrap around attempt?
....can we get the season started already?

Kings introduce baseball into hockey by adding home plate to center ice.
Don't take your eyes off the puck at center ice, for you may lose site of it for a split second as the puck passes through all the black paint.

That's funny, I thought the same thing when Howard signed his big $ extension, and he hasn't backstopped his team past the 2nd round yet.
Cue the Statler/Waldorf dance-off...

In total homer news, Loui Eriksson has chosen to wear number 21 in Boston as he did in Dallas. As a Boston homer, it's tough to see someone take Andy Ference's number right after he was left as the free agent we couldn't afford any more. Boston has high hopes for Loui but now he's got even bigger shoes to fill.
Early prediction, Edmonton's prospects turn the corner this year when Ferknuckle makes them a team.

I only see Ference being the only proven D-man who can play defense.
And yet another new head coach.

We'll see if all that talent finally puts it together in Edmonton. From what I can observe, they seem to want to use the all-offense model (which worked great for Washington when they tried and Pens last year) because overall team D is going to be a major work in-progress. There's also very little size in the Top 6.

It's more about Ference's heart than his skills. He's not the kind of guy who backs down from a challenge and his attitude was infectious in Boston. We won't be missing his "shut down" defensive skills in Boston, we'll be missing his locker room presence and what he brings in intangibles.
Still, I think it is a steep price. Whatever. Chicago seems to have a plan since they also just locked up Hjalmarsson today.
The management seems to have identified their core and will just use interchangeable parts for the others and try to contend for a Cup every 2-3 years...Given how they gutted the last team and then won again just this year, it seems like a workable plan.

Not discounting the character of those you mentioned but every "star of the game" item that gets passed aroun the bruins locker room was acquired by him. He started that whole tradition with the b's.
Ah...well, then, his leadership is badly needed on that young Oilers squad. Just not sure if those #1s will listen (i.e. Nugent-Hopkins, Hall, Yakupov)...

Some of his better ones,
-“I could be playing with Bergy and Rex, and it would be the fourth line. I could be centering Looch and Krejci, and it would be the fourth line.”
-“I can’t stand those guys because they sent me to the minors fifteen times over three years. I can’t stand them.”
Shawn Thornton, on the Chicago Blackhawks
-“He does whatever I tell him to, he’s essentially my chauffeur, man-servant, whatever I need him to be.”
Shawn Thornton, on Tuukka Rask
-“He would absolutely fucking destroy me.”
Shawn Thornton, on fighting “The Fighter” Micky Ward
-“I think that anybody that puts gaming as his favorite hobby probably hasn’t matured enough to be in that issue.”
Shawn Thornton, on Brad Marchand’s selection as one of the Most Eligible Bachelors in Boston by Improper Bostonian
-“I’m very unselfish. The linesman was surprised. I was like, ‘Fuck- you must not watch practice, I guess. I do it all the time.’ He didn’t think I had that in the bag. He thought that club was left at the golf store.”
Shawn Thornton, on his assist to Gregory Campbell against the Canes
-Cabbie: Is there such a thing as getting too many girls?
Shawn Thornton: No, there's never too many, I suppose. There can never be too many. For the single guys. For Mark Stuart and David Krejci, those are the only two single guys we have. So they actually get all the tap-ins from our wives, too. They all want to set them up with their friends.
Cabbie: So, just like, hot tub parties every night.
Shawn: Every night, at the Thornton residence. Mark Stuart. Naked.

He was the first guy in the league to fight Pretty Boy Crosby and lets not forget he flipped off the entire Montreal forum and Habs fan base for the city of Boston.
Take everything else off his resume and those 2 acts make him a Boston Bruins legend. He gets to take his spot somewhere between Bobby Orr flying through the air and John Wensink openly challenging the entire Minnesota bench.

In the world of "things that would have been scary"...
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=6...id=DL|NHL|home
Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 295 pounds. At the 2011 NFL Scouting Combine, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.81 seconds. It's that remarkable blend of size and speed that helped him win the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award last season.
Now imagine him on skates holding a hockey stick.
Watt, who begins another NFL season Monday, grew up playing hockey, attending University of Wisconsin games, and competing on local travel teams that ventured as far as Canada and Germany.
