Kings goalie Jonathan Bernier must say goodbye to Hollywood mask or pay up.
before
after
For the last two seasons, Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Bernier has worn a mask that honors the city's movie industry, with a film reel and the iconic "HOLLYWOOD" sign depicted on its right side.
According to Kings blogger John Hovan of Mayor's Manor, the owner of the Hollywood sign's trademark is now yelling "cut."
Apparently the folks who own the Hollywood sign have been in touch with the NHL regarding Jonathan Bernier's mask. According to sources, Bernier either needs to remove the sign from his current mask or he must pay royalties for using it.
After his pre-game skate this morning, Bernier appeared frustrated by the entire issue, saying 'I don't understand. Guys here have been using the Hollywood sign on their masks going all the way back to Kelly Hrudey."
Hovan spoke to Hrudey, the former Kings netminder, who expressed disappointment that the trademark issue has come up over Bernier's mask.
The word "Hollywood" isn't trademarked. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, however, owns "certain trademark rights for usage of the sign or its likeness for commercial purposes." (The commissioned creation of a goalie mask, we imagine, would fit that description.)

Hrudey's H-wood mask...back in the day.

I'm just glad the Hawks are now learning how to win without Toews. Not sure how many games Keith will get for his retaliatory shot to Daniella Sedin...but, I'm guessing around 3 Shana-bans.
Hopefully, they give Daniella a game or two too for his head shot on Keith.

With Avs rolling if the Hawks would have lost the last 2-3 I would have said they had a shot at over taking them. However the fact they have kept winning I agree they have secured finishing no worse than 6th pretty much at this point.
Did not play, playoff odds down 0.08 to 38.9%
Is his head still ringing?
The truth is, regardless of the wins right now, the Hawks aren't going anywhere int he playoffs without their captain.

It is still possible. They really control their own destiny since basically all the last games are against teams they are fighting with. They have to win tonight though for sure as it would give a big boost and a good separation from Phoenix.
Hope you don't end up like the Kings did last year, when they lost Kopitar for the playoffs.
They fought hard, but clearly were missing Kopi.
I think this will be the case for the Hawks if they don't get Toes back.
Kings scoring since acquiring Jeff Carter, from worst to first (in the West)!
If they can keep this up, they might make the playoffs, and they will be peaking at the right time.
IF.......
Per radio voice Nick Nickson, the Kings’ unofficial statistician and historian, the Kings aren’t merely scoring more since they acquired Jeff Carter. They’re scoring more than anyone else in the Western Conference. Nick ran the numbers, and the Kings have scored 42 goals in their last 12 games, for an average of 3.5 goals per game. During that span — meaning, since Feb. 25 — the only team to average more goals is Pittsburgh, who have averaged 4.25 goals over the last 12 games. The next-best team in the West is Nashville, which has averaged 3.17 goals. After practice today, Justin Williams agreed with the popular theory, that Carter’s addition has provided balance to the offensive attack.

Speaking of Kings, did you see Quakety's post about how it would look to be LA versus Chicago in the Western Conference Finals with your Kings winning that and going on to the Cup Finals?
bunch of nonsense anyway.
