Phew.... I wasn't expecting Nabby to stick around, but at least we held on to them. We need more people that show up in the playoffs like Pavelski

Sportsnet is speculating the Ducks may want to get Kaberle...Maybe there is hope that Toronto can make a pick in the first or second round this year.
I don't know about this new style NHL awards. It was better than last year's Def Leopard and the upside down Stanley Cup but they want to turn it into some type of music awards style thing. Music performances by bands I've never heard of or the Geico caveman are not the reasons I'm watching. And then they cut the acceptance speeches short because of it. Let the guys speak.
They turned the "wrap it up" music on Keith and he went on for another few minutes it seemed. Then Sedin, who will probably never win another Hart, has to rush through his acceptance because they ran out of time.

Well, the mess-up with Ovechkin was kinda bad. He was not done talking and then they let on the next presenter...At least Waters was perceptive enough to let Ovie finish his speech.

And honestly, I don't know how I feel about the Messier Award...he's the lone person that picks...?
At least change that and I dunno, allow all the captains of the League to vote?
Ah well, they would've invented a trophy just so that Sid did not walk out empty-handed.

Wow...just noticed the Hawks have 11 picks in this year's draft. That's some good ability to re-stock the cupboards...

Congratulations to the Blackhawks: You turned the Stanley Cup ghey!
CHICAGO - The Stanley Cup, which has been on more adventures than perhaps any other piece of championship hardware, will make its first appearance in a gay-themed event this weekend.
The Chicago Gay Hockey Association invited the Blackhawks to join Sunday's Gay Pride Parade after the team won its first Stanley Cup title since 1961 -- and the team said yes. So did the Chicago Cubs, who will have their own float in the parade for the first time.
According to the Hockey Hall of Fame's Phil Pritchard, it will mark the first time the NHL's championship trophy has been on display at a gay-themed event.
"We are thrilled that it worked out as it's important for the city and important for the franchise," Blackhawks spokesman Adam Rogowin said.
Defenceman Brent Sopel and his wife, Kelly, will accompany the Cup on a float in the parade. Sopel, who was traded this week to Atlanta, is a 33-year-old father of three who said he volunteered to honour the late son of Toronto general manager Brian Burke, his former boss in Vancouver.
Brendan Burke, 21, was killed in an auto accident in February, just three months after publicly disclosing his homosexuality.
"Anybody who has had to bury a child has suffered a heartbreak and this was the first thing that came to mind," Sopel said. "Everything that happened last year with Brendan coming out last year and dying three months later, it was a tragedy."
Sopel said he's not really trying to make a statement.
"But everybody is a person and we all have feelings," he said.
As for the Cubs, Hall of Famer Ernie Banks will ride in a vehicle decorated with a brick-and-ivy motif reminiscent of Wrigley Field's outfield wall. The ballpark is only a few blocks from the parade route, and the Cubs have supported various gay community causes over the past several years.
"We know we have many fans in the community," said Mike Lufrano, the team's vice-president of community affairs.

Here's the latest trade rumors in the NHL (from The Hockey News).
Two weeks after the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup, they finally made a much-anticipated cost-cutting trade, shipping Dustin Byfuglien, Brent Sopel and Ben Eager to the Atlanta Thrashers.
The move frees up more than $4 million in cap space. When combined with the anticipated demotion of goalie Cristobal Huet ($5.6 million) and the increase of next season’s salary cap to $59.4 million, the Blackhawks will have roughly $12 million in available cap space.
That doesn’t spell the end of their cap troubles, however. They still must re-sign goalie Antti Niemi, defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson, possibly winger Andrew Ladd and leave enough money to ice a full roster next season.
Little wonder then that the Chicago Daily Herald suggests another trade might be in the offing.

Expect speculation to continue about Patrick Sharp and Kris Versteeg, although it’s believed Hawks management prefers to retain the more versatile Sharp.
FLYERS GOALIE HUNT
It’s been rumored the Philadelphia Flyers might pursue a more experienced starting goaltender, but recent reports from Philadelphia suggest that might not be the case.
Flyers GM Paul Holmgren is currently attempting to sign newly-acquired defenseman Dan Hamhuis and intends on re-signing RFA blueliner Braydon Coburn.
That wouldn’t leave much cap space to land an expensive free agent goalie, making Michael Leighton perhaps a more affordable bet.
The Flyers have been linked to Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas in the rumor mill, but unless the Bruins were willing to accept a cap hit comparable to Thomas’ $5 million per season (and if he agrees to waive his no-trade clause) such a move is unlikely.
Unless the Flyers are willing to dump salary – perhaps that of center Jeff Carter, who lacks a movement clause in his contract – they’ll have little choice but to consider re-signing Leighton or finding another bargain netminder.
SPEZZA COLUMBUS BOUND?
An internet rumor made the rounds earlier in the week claimed the Ottawa Senators were on the verge of trading Jason Spezza to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Columbus Dispatch reporter Aaron Portzline claimed such a move hadn’t been discussed between the two teams, nor did it stand any chance of happening.
Meanwhile, the Ottawa media suggested the time to move Spezza is now, both to avoid a re-run of a similar situation involving Dany Heatley – which dogged the Senators throughout last summer – and to avoid paying him a $4 million bonus due July 1.
Heading into the draft weekend, however, it appears the possibility of a Spezza trade is dimming as GM Bryan Murray claimed only one team has expressed interest. Murray also said he won’t move Spezza after July 1.
While it’s still possible the Senators could trade Spezza by the end of June, it appears increasingly unlikely such a move will take place.
KABERLE BUZZ
The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to take calls regarding defenseman Tomas Kaberle, whose no-trade clause is not in effect from June 25 to August 1, but it’s not a certainty he will be moved at the draft.
Various reports suggest the Leafs management have yet to find an offer they like and consider the draft weekend as merely a starting point from which the club can field offers, suggesting perhaps Kaberle might be moved later in the summer.
That’s certainly true, but the best time for a Kaberle trade is before the second week of July, when more teams will have more available cap space and more willingness to invest in a $4.25 million defenseman.
It was suggested soon after the Boston Bruins shipped blueliner Dennis Wideman to the Florida Panthers as part of the return for winger Nathan Horton the Toronto Maple Leafs might revisit last June’s attempts to move Kaberle to the Bruins, but that was denied by Leafs GM Brian Burke.
PREDATORS FREE AGENT SHOPPING?
Nashville Predators GM David Poile won’t be pursuing any big name free agent forwards in July, but he doesn’t rule out bringing in a free agent scorer to help off-set the loss of center Jason Arnott, who was dealt to the New Jersey Devils.
Poile also suggested he could sign a free agent backup to help share the goaltending duties with Pekka Rinne.
The Predators GM has less than $39 million invested in 17 players for next season, but isn’t expected to spend more than $45 million in payroll, which will limit his UFA options as he also has to re-sign key players like Patric Hornqvist and Cody Franson.
Still, Poile has had a knack in recent years for finding affordable free agent talent. Potential options include Matthew Lombardi, Brendan Morrison, Mike Comrie, Kyle Wellwood, Dominic Moore and former Predator Paul Kariya.

No real draft talk ITT?
The taylor/tyler debate was settled.
Boston has four good centers now, one will get traded.
Isles stole Kabanov in round 3.
Rangers really screwed up their first round pick, when Gormley and Fowler were still available and they took the goon.

Well, the top 2 went as predicted. The drop of those 2 D-men from the Top 10 was surprising...
Personally, I'm happy with the size the Hawks added. Most are going to be a few years away...

Yep...other than Ballard going from the Panthers to the Canucks. Personally, I think Tallon fleeced Vancity...and we can all now count on Ballard taking out 7uongo.

I'm more curious what craziness happens in July 1.

^ Seems like the most "logical" destination. They are likening his arrival to Hossa's going to Chicago...a star player who does not need to be a megastar...but, someone who can take some pressure of the main core and be seen as a final puzzle piece to push them over the hump.
I think it'll be a good signing...just depends on the $$$ thrown around.

...but if he signs in LA, unlike Hossa, he will deliver teh goals, and won't have a bazzillion year long contract
I means 24 goals....come on...what happened to 40+?
....and I wonder who is gonna get Froloaf from the Kings.....Pittsburgh

24 goals in 57 games is pretty good if you ask me. And again, one of the best defensive forwards on the Hawks along with Toews and Bolland. Worth it even if I'll have to watch him until I'm 90 years old.
The sizzle in the Steak
Anyways Frolov really? Was that a joke? He was a major disappointment last year.
Being a Devils, I can't believe they signed Arnott. Crazy move to bring that old man back to NJ. The NHL these days are all about legs and hands...
More importantly who's going to pick up kovy? He ain't jersey material.

Apparently, the key for Chicago is the Swede. He projects to be a top 6 guy down the road...
Time will tell. Versteeg was a no-name trade back then too...so, let's hope Chicago sold high. Still, I think the Leafs are getting back a very talented forward. He should mesh well with Kessel.

Damn, the Blackhawks won't have very many players from the championship team on the roster to pick up their Stanley Cup rings on the first day of the season next year.

Burish returning is still up in the air. And who knows what happens with Madden...
I'm assuming with Steeger's contract out, they'll have the $$$ to work out deals for Ladd, Niemi, and Hammer...
