The 29th is the next event. And yes, it is at DCTC. I'll have my Yokos on still, so dont expect miracles.

Jorge, your tires didnt look like that after your runs, they just had a bit of the chewed-on look from tires getting up to temp and gripping.

One of the problems with autocrossing is that you get about 1/2 a lap in on cold tires and the other half the tires are warm. When you run really hard on cold tires you get something that is called cold-tearing where the rubber actually tears instead of sliding like a warm tire would. In most road racing scenarios, you run a couple of medium speed laps to get the tires up to temp and then you go for it. This helps conserve your tires. With autocross, it is actually engineered so that your tires cool between runs and this does excessive damage to your tires when it is cold.

What you also have to take into account is that those tires are NOT made for the kinds of stresses I put them under. I mean, they are all-season (also called no-season) tires with a treadwear rating of 500. For those that need more info, the highest I have ever seen is 600, and a lower number means you get more wear, but higher grip. Jorge's tires are rated at 300, and autocross slicks are rated at 40. Those tires were trying to grip, but they were just not made to take the stresses that I was putting to them and they degraded, badly.

Blackura, when you get home, check out what tires you have on your ride and look them up on Tire Rack to see what the specs are. If you want, post them here and I will tell you what kind of performance you are going to expect. No matter what your tires end up looking like, you will learn a lot about what your car can do, and what you can do in your car. I have gotten the ass-end of the TL to come around a few different times and it is fun because you learn what to do in that situation.

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/pts/706311594.html <-- just fond these, I'm going to see if they will fit the TL and if they are decent tires.

I know the 5x114.3 is the same size as the 3G TL's. I believe they would fit yours too then if I am not mistaken. I think if anything, you would have more of an issue going from 2G to 3G w/ brembo's - ther than that, I have not heard about much of a compatibility issue

I'm more worried about weight than anything else. No easier way to ruin a decent car than by putting 40 pounds on each wheel.

You need to get a sponsor...lol

Imagine having some sweet Strongbow aluminum rims. Better start saving your cans.

Hey, I do need a sponsor! Anyone want to pony up? Maybe get some investment from the shop? Maybe that super-fancy computer company you work for Glow? Razzi, can you score me an Apple sponsorship?

If I get a sponsor, I'll get some R-comps and kick the crap out of that suby. Beating that BMW would be a tall order though...

Yea... I can barely get my employer to sponsor me for a decent paycheck. Although - there is that really cool computer company that I own (co-own?). But before I start dishing any money out, I need to get some money in.

If you're down for it though, I might be making some spiffy vinyl decals for rolling advertisement (maybe name and web info for the back window of my ack) - maybe I could put some cool numbers on your car or quarter windows or something.

(pssst.... hopefully I don't get into hot water for this, but I may get an acurazine sticker or two out of any leftover bits of vinyl. Sick of not being able to represent)

I'm pretty militant about putting stickers on my cars, so for me to put stickers on, I'm going to have to get some free tires! (or DC Headers )

We used to put stickers on the race bikes for companies that would provide us with free performance parts, or provide us with cash for top 3 finishes. Our team owner was even more militant, he wouldn't wear any clothes that had a logo on it, no matter how small. His justification was that if they wanted him to advertise for them, they should have provided the clothes at no cost.

I'm still trying to talk the wife into making good on that promise to buy me tires if she got the promotion she was going for. Too bad I am also trying to get some wheels thrown in there too...

So, E and I were driving back from a friend's house today and I noticed a clank coming from the front end when I hit small creases in the road. It didn't make the sound when I hit big bumps, just small seams in the asphalt.

Next time we do the shop thing I am going to have to get the front in the air and see if I can find out what is making the racket.

So it still kind of sounds like things are up in the air for tomorrow? Just for the sake of planning things, I am just kind of considering Jorge out for the b-day.

I thought I saw a post back a few ago that said you were / may be out too josh?

Well - I know for sure that i have to get some stuff done to my car, I am planning on working on it tomorrow. Since I have to put in a few hours at work tomorrow (it's like twice a year they ask me to work a weekend), if we do have anything going on, I will go straight there after work tomorrow (11 - noon).

Otherwise if nothing really pans out for a meet, I will be at my house taking care of the ack to-do list if anyone is interested in stopping by.

Anyone interested in a meet or stopping by my place, let me know. Otherwise it sounds like there are a couple of opportunities for next weekend too? Friday night races, and Sunday autoX.

wadup, I'm from the Twin Cities too. I recently just picked up a black 02 TL Type-S. When is the meetings usually held at? I wouldn't mind coming and chipping in whatever just to kick it and look at our TL's. Mines is still stock and I think I won't do any work on it yet till I am sure of what I want on it. My car does have high miles but the inside and outside is still looking good. I have a few scratches here and there but it's noting major. I know I can just look at the FAQ about detailing our cars but it would be cool just to kick it with some TL owners and find out whats really best for our cars. But yeah, glad to see there's TC people up in here. Let me know the info when the next real TL meeting is at.

It' also cold playing presidents and assholes out on the deck at 2am. Good thing there was a keg to keep me warm.

So - hopefully I'm not pooping on anyone's parade - but it sounds like there the meet for tomorrow is officially off.

In tha case - I still have shit that needs to be done to the car tomorrow.

If anyone is looking to hang out and maybe learn a few things about their cars tomorrow - I will be working on my car and grilling sometime during the afternoon.

If anyone is interested, let me know. Otherwise it's all stuff that can be done without a second pair of hands. I will be at work at 8am - so I will be sure to check on things before noon and let everyone know. I live in Coon Rapids by the way - in case location is a deciding factor.

Sounds good. Suprise suprise I didn't get anything done today. Had to spend a lot more time than expected at work today. Then I just fired up some steaks, and played the wii for most of the night.

Now - I'm off to bed since i never got my well deserved nap in today.

Check the blinker fluid reservoir, it is known to come loose.

Everybody who cares - I am coming back into town around July 20th through that weekend to pack up the rest of my crap. I am planning on taking it easy for the first few days, so I will be down for a meet (sans-acura, obvi) and I'd love to see you all again.

I also think it is time for me to stop putting off getting new tires after this resulted from yesterday's hooning:

Damn Foo!! You need to inflate those tires before you get into some hoonage like that! Looks like you damn near rolled those tires all the way to the wheel, that would have been the end of the CL, you would have been on your head! Looks like your tires are starting to delaminate just like mine are. You should bring the Ack back and run the MOWOG 4 event, then you can really roast those tires! CraigsList is your friend, I found a smokin deal on some new Michelins for the TL.

I'm looking forward to having you back in town, how long are you staying?

By the way, what the hell were you doing to roast your tires like that?
