Hello strangers!
Hey guys, sorry I have not been on here lately. I guess I will just have to make-up for not posting within the last month with a really long post now I have been VERY busy juggling my three jobs. I typically work from 7AM-10PM, every day! I can't wait to wake-up in less than 4 hours for work Also, my car is still laid-up. I haven't driven her since May 3rd; yes, that is over 13 weeks!
Hahaha, I designed every modification on my whip (especially my lights). FYI - I started modifying my ride more than a year and a half ago I did not take offense to your comment. I know you were just stating your opinion.
I kick myself for spending that much to customize my headlights
Although Josh is not my best friend, he is still a good friend of mine. I appreciate that he has my best interest in mind!
Look at all the drama my custom headlights caused
That's what I do
Hope you are recovering well from your surgery, Jorge!
When I had my whip, I was there every Friday and Saturday night lol.
Sorry to hear about your wife's job loss!
Nice pun at my headlights
I am hoping to have my latest modifications installed by then. If they are, I am mos def there!
But in all honesty, that sucks man! Look at it this way, at least you have a NEW tranny! I like looking at the positive side of things.
It appears that your dad has extremely good luck... Remind me to take him with me when I go to the casino next!
How about a CL?? I have to admit, you do a pretty good job detailing and it sounds like you know what you are doing.
I just bought new tires for my OEM wheels. Since I bought new wheels (forcing me to buy new tires again), I would consider selling them to you (Matt) if they will fit on your ride...
Don't sell the car, unless it is an improvement
I am pissed I missed this meet, and the Honda meet, and the 2010 AcuraZine National Meet, and Eurowerks 4, and RPM The Next Generation Automotive Lifestyle Festival & Car Show, and Car Craft Summer Nationals... just to name a few.
Another person selling their whip
For the record, i remember hearing Travis talk about those headlights on MNSC saying he bought them from guy and saying that they were one of a kind or something along those lines. If thats true, then i very much doubt he spend 'hundreds of hours' and 'years' working on it (especially when he really just started modding it about a year and a half ago.
When I had my whip, I was there every Friday and Saturday night lol.
Wifey lost her job last Thursday. I guess I can't be surprised.... she did sell construction materials to places like Home Depot and Sela. Just never really expect it to happen when it does.
Speaking of lights - mine were having issues with fogging up again, so I removed them and resealed them. Probably not the right way, but they don't leak so I won't worry about it (no oven, just siliconed the edges). Probably not as fancy as some of your "paint and halo" variety. lol

But the TLs definitely made an appearance! Wow!

Thanks man, I would greatly appreciate your help! White Heat is not ready for a good cleaning, since I have no bumper Would it be better to do a good detail [i.e. wax, etc.] before I park it for the winter or when I wake her from hibernation?

Don't feed the...WTF?
It probably doesnt matter either way really. I prefer to do mine before I put it away for the winter.
1) You're not leaving crud on it for 6 months, then trying to scrape it off
2) You're protecting it from the dust/sand/grit that may be on the vehicle when you cover it (or rub up against it if not covered)
3) If you're like me, and have an ideal situation - my car gets stored in it's own garage stall. When I have people over in the winter for the after party, my car is always shiney and clean sitting in the garage for everyone to admire when it's cold as hell, and everyone elses car is full of salt, slush and kid's tongue tips.
Plus, it's a good rite of passage from Fall to Winter to get your car all cleaned up and put away. Kind of signals the end of summer. A bonus to that also is that it's usually warmer in the Fall/Winter than it is Winter/Spring. I put the car away come November 1. This is the date that I can no longer park my truck in the culdesac, so I keep it in the driveway and put the TL in the garage. April 1st (when I can park back in the culdesac) is when I take it back out for the season. In late october, it generally still tends to be in the 60's and 70's. In late March, April - we're at the point that we all start thinking 40 is warm as hell. Still not warm enough to break out the hose for the season though.
And nothing that Josh has to say adds any value to this. Asshat has a heated garage and gets pleasure from telling all of us how he just washed his car on a brisk January morning. I repeat... Asshat!

Oh.. speaking of asshats. Got a CEL today in the TL. P0404, sounds like it's headed to the dealer for a new/cleaning of my EGR valve.
Runs out really nice now.. lol Although I've heard the EGR is what controls most of the timing control - so I'm probably knocking to beat hell. Oh well, 8:45 tomorrow morning it won't be my problem anymore. I can "break in" whatever loaner they decide to give me.

I always do a good cleaning before I store her, but I was just wondering if I should wax her also. I am going to invest into a car cover this year. I was going to buy one last year, but did not want to fork over the money (since the nice ones are not cheap). I am going to get the California Customweave in either bright red or black with "White Heat" embroidered on it [http://www.calcarcover.com/default.aspx].

Hey does anyone else with the 5AT notice that sometimes when your coming to a stop the car downshifts kind of hard? It feels like it is shifting from 4th gear to 2nd gear right away. I have been noticing it more lately and was wondering if anyone else noticed this or is it an issue with my tranny?

Don't feed the...WTF?
I have noticed something, but I'm not sure its what you're experiencing. Sometimes (mainly when in traffic), I notice the car downshifts, and it causes a combo of engine drag, as well as the pedal becoming softer. I've always just attributed it to the electronics being too good for themselves, and almost working against each other.

Hey guys I am back from my trip and had a great time everywhere I went. The flight to Sydney is a killer, 14 hours from LA, I left LA at 10:00PM Saturday and arrived in Sydney at 6am Monday and to avoid jet lag I just stayed up and walked to the Sydney Opera House and down to Circular Quay. I did two tours in Australia one out to the Blue Mountains/ Jenolan Caves and the hop on hop off bus tour of Sydney. Next stop was Singapore where I stayed at the Marina Bay Sands hotel and casino. The hotel is awesome with the infinity pool on the roof. I lost one day due to rain but the next day I did the Singapore city tour and a Duk tour which is a old military amphibious vehicle. Singapore was getting ready for their version of the Fourth of July and had a small fireworks show right in front of my hotel so I went up to the pool deck on the 57th floor and watched the fireworks display. Then I went to Cairo and saw the Pyramids. The traffic in Cairo is CRAZY imagine if the three lanes on 35W were just a suggestion and people are weaving in and out and the traffic was five lanes wide. After that was Paris I did the city tour for two days and went to the Louvre, Pompidou Center and the Eiffel Tower. My last stop was London where I had a tour out to Windsor Castle, Bath and Stonehenge. The next day I did a tour of London with stops at the British Museum, The London Eye, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Millennium Bridge and The Globe Theater. I had layovers in Dubai and Iceland along the way and overall it was a great trip with no flight delays or lost luggage.

I dont think its quite the same thing but its almost like that. I noticed it a few times before but just didnt think anything of it. Yesterday i was on my way home and i was doing about 60mph and the light turned yellow then red and i stepped on the brake with normal pressure i guess and the car started slowing down then all of a sudden it downshifted and jerked me forward. It was like when i used to clutch brake in my old car but instead of hitting 3rd i pulled too much and went right into 1st. It kind of concerns me. Isnth there some kind of sensor that needs to be replaced? I thought i read somwhere that there is a sensor people have replaced for the 3rd to 4th gear change or something... i cant remember what it was now. My car has about 95,000 on it.

You'll be slowing down, braking normally. Then the car shifts down mid-brake, and you get the engine brake effect.
I always assumed this was normal. Not necessarily normal I guess, but something that the cars electronics were controlling. Let us know if you hear anything else about this! I've got 88k on mine, so it's still under warranty probably until next summer. Doubt I'll put another 12k on it this summer before I put it away for the winter.

That's exactly what happens to me. Usually it's in traffic, but yeah - sometimes it also happens when I'm on a road doing 50, then have to stop. For some stupid reason, the exact example I can give is I think it happens damn near everytime I get into town in Taylors Falls.

Flying to that side of the world is tough unless you can finagle business class. First time I went to India was on my dime and we flew steerage, it was a rough 23 hours.
By the way, the traffic description pretty much sums up all of my experience driving in south Asia. There aren't traffic laws, merely suggestions. Since you can't go over 35MPH, accidents are pretty scarce and usually not a big deal. When I was in Hyderabad I got to drive my friend's Maruti (think 4 door Smart, but smaller) and I was blowing through green lights, he was freaking out because at night no one pays attention to lights, they just go.
#7303
Damn dude, that sounds like a busy trip. Other than that day in Singapore, did you get any time to just chill?

I flew economy class from here to Sydney and even with an exit row seat it was a terrible flight. The seats were hard and uncomfortable and the chick sitting next to me was being a B****. But the difference in cost was huge economy was $1,500 to move up to premium economy was $5,000 which is more than I spent on airfare total.
Some of the cars I saw on my trip were a Ferrari Enzo, 458, 599, Mercedes SLS gullwing, tons of Aston Martins, Bentleys/Rolls Royce, Gwiz, Fiat 500 Abarth, Lambos, Nissan GT-R and my more.

'07 CGP TSX here, just bought it a few weeks ago. White Bear Acura was not much fun.
Looking forward to next summer at least...this weekend I'm going to do a full detail, look into some 3M for the front end, and maybe a tint.

Well, I'm finally right-side-up on my car loan. Just in time for me to try and sell it again. Anyone know of someone that might be interested in my TL? 04, Auto, Nav. SSM, Aspec ground effects, Cleared/ZKW headlights, Type-S conversion.
88k miles (under full bumper to bumper until 100k) - going to be asking $12,000 if someone here refers for it. Otherwise I'll be listing it on Car Soup for $13,500.
Gotta sell the car with the woman laid off - need some funds free'd up. Then in the spring I'm looking at buying a Camaro SS with the LS1. 345hp stock, with endless possibilities. Exhaust for 400, headers for 150 - I can modify this thing for under a couple grand and pull another hundred ponies out easily.

We haven't left yet. We leave Friday morning and get back September 6th.
I didn't think it was possible to be right side up in a car loan. Acura must hold its value a lot better than i thought.
Im thinking of buying a Mustang GT. Once i pay off the TL of course. I still need my everyday car. Mustangs are a car with TONS of possibilities.

Aaah... but that's where you're wrong. lol. I'm 4 years into a 6 year loan, so it's about damn time something works in my favor finally. Getting a 5 year loan would have pushed my payments up over $600 a month. I didn't even know you could finance for 6 years until I bought this thing.
But yeah - Camaros and Mustangs are nothing but a shell just waiting to happen. It doesn't hurt that you turn to the back of any car magazine and there are a minimim of 3-4 pages dedicated to just 5.0 or LSx parts. Plus even companies like Jegs have entire sections devoted the these cars.
Try that with our TL's! There's like 2 companies that make anything for our cars.

Hehe. I'll bring it out again once the new motor is in and tuned. Who knows when that'll be though. It's going on 3 months now and I still have no word as to when I'll have the damn thing in my hands.
As soon as it gets here, I'll take a week and drop it in. Then it's off to King Motorsports in WI to have it broken-in and tuned.

Oddly enough, I paid my tl off earlier this year and have been spending the money on my house......I too am saving up for a camaro though.....but I want one of the z28's if gm decides to make them........
Buying other toys along the way is slowing down the savings process though....just bought a new specialized tricross comp bicycle last friday! Thing is awesome!! Just have to get used to it now is all.

Aaah... but that's where you're wrong.

Pineapple of DOOM!!!!
Ah!! yes the Camaro. They are a dime a dozen thats why there is so much crap for them. You also see one on the road every five miles. Thats why the do not hold value. Unless they are classics you see on Barrott Jackson auctions. There is no quality when it comes to these cars thats why they are so cheap to buy. I enjoy my TL and there are mods for them you just have to look for them. The TL's do hold their value Evil just like you said plus they are made of quality not quantity.
I do agree with you about the dime a dozen, but, they are so much FUN!!!! Its true, American sports cars dont have too much quality when it comes to the shell but man.... those motors are fucking awesome. I love imports as much as the next guy but i gotta say that there is nothing like the rumble of an American V8. Epsecially when you can hear that big fat cam in there and feel your chest shake when you open up the throttle

Don't feed the...WTF?
Well said Evil. I'm not looking for a replacement for the TL - I doubt I will own a car in the near future that can be the perfect combination of sport and luxury as the TL has been for me.
I'm just looking for a project car - something I can actually get my hands dirty and work on if needed. With the current economy, my personal finances, and just my general direction for the future - this meets my needs.
When I first bought this car, it was great. I was making lots of money, my wife was working, and dumping $700 a month into a car was nothing. Now I'm kind of excited to sell it, buy a car for cash, and turn it into a 500hp motor on wheels. Taking a step backwards, but it looks like I will just start to drive my truck as a daily driver for a couple years since that is almost considered my primary vehicle anyways (since that's what I drive on the weekends and all winter)
Elite, No. (not that Acura's are anymore now - I see at least 5 or 6 on my drive to work everyday now). But because they are so numerous - I can get parts if needed (aka junk yard) and the mod limits are untouchable. With 345hp starting - thats more than our TL's will ever see. For a grand, I can get it up to 500hp. For 5 grand, I could turn it into a 700hp beast.
Think that doesn't interest any of you? Think back to the dyno days we all went too, and the shit eatin' grin we all had when they couldn't even dyno that mustang cobra. (for those not there...) Kept spinning it's tires with it strapped down, and 3 dudes in the back seet. They could only measure it up to about 680hp before it started to get loose on the equipment.
Sorry about the rant. I'm not taking it personal by any means. I love the TL, and will miss it for sure. But that extra ching in my pocket will certainly be welcomed! The TL will be gone, but I certainly will live on. I'll just be the guy in the truck for the next meet.

^^^ Im right there with ya man, The TL is a great car and i do love the mix of power and luxury but its not an asphalt crushing V8 that says "GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY WAY" when coming up behind you on the highway. My TL will be my fun daily driver, ill spruce it up a bit but im going to spend my money on that Mustang i have always dreamed about. Plus my TL is an AT and i dont see the point in getting crazy with performance on anything thats not either a manual or a sequential auto like in the new lexus super car....

^^^ Agreed with the above, although my choice of 'fun' vehicle would be different. If it weren't for the 2-stall garage, I would have saved the small fortune I've dumped into this thing and bought an additional car.
I suppose it's not all bad though. I would have been paying through the nose for an additional car of my choice. This way, I get to have 90% of the same fun, but without the additional monthly cost. And in this sort of market, that's priceless.

I've got a 2 stall garage, but the "bonus" if you want to call it that - my truck doesn't fit in the garage. So one of the stalls will be free. lol
But anywho. Sale Pending! I think a fellow Aziner from NC is going to hop on a flight next Saturday and pick it up. That was fast! What do you guys think? I thought $12k (13.5 was KBB) was priced competitively, and to move. Did I give the thing away? Or is it just that I take care of my cars and it shows? I just posted it yesteday and I've already gotten 2 people that pretty much have said they want it. Although the guy from NC has all but committed (already has all info, ran carfax etc) to buying it. While the other very interested person is local, they wanted to take a look at it tomorrow. They already own a TL and are looking for a 2nd - so that pretty much tells me that's a definate sale seeing as I have nothing to hide with mine that would make someone shy away.
