Good choice. A lot of people in my area do pressure treated posts but then do cedar for the rails and pickets. The cedar pickets are fine but the rails should be pressure treated too. People seem to think cedar is invincible. Lol

I'm taking our 5 foot privacy down section by section and replacing with a more open separated dog eared design. Leaving the posts, cutting them down to 4 ft and then replacing the rails with new wider lumber and the solid stained pickets with 4 ft natural cedar. Our fence isn't in bad shape but the stain is failing bad and I just couldn't justify spending an estimated $700+ on new stain for old lumber when I could just replace the fence with something new we like better for about the same cost. Plus it'll match both of our neighbors designs.

Couple small updates inside, I've tried 3 or 4 different recessed lighting LED replacement fixtures and couldn't find any that were shallow enough for my basement fixture. I was trying to avoid replacing the fixture because the ceiling tiles are glued together and would be a huge pain to remove. I finally found these LED spot bulbs at Walmart and after 2 trips got the one that I believed would fit. I put the cap back on and installed it, and am happy with the flush updated look.

This light acts as my hallway/theater lighting when I run the projector in the basement and I'm very happy with it. And it's bright as shit!
20150616_163420_zps2ga64vdz.jpg

I also was sick of only having 2 outlets in my laundry room, and having plugs falling out of the shitty old outlet, so I swapped it out as well.

20150616_165932_zpsxe2nq4sv.jpg

And added a spare multi-outlet that I replaced in my dining room.
20150616_170322_zpsqy0y7jh2.jpg

I'm almost complete with replacing all the outlets in the house, I have not yet tackled the basement, or the last 2 or 3 in the bedroom that I never got around to before painting when I bought the house. I intend to do those sooner than later.

Also, for people who aren't following the home theater thread, I also upgraded my living room stereo... a bit

So before I had these small JBL 5.1 speakers
20150613_232749_zps0jwwmjup.jpg

But with the big ass ridiculous 70" TV, I felt that I needed something bigger and more ridiculous, so I had to upgrade. Here's a size comparison of the old and new powered subs, 8" vs 12"
20150614_214133_zpsve0bacnw.jpg

And I replaced the front channel speakers with JBL Studio Series tower speakers

20150615_223910_zpsb8xirmwg.jpg

I had to move the TV stand over a bit, and move the loveseat out to accommodate these speakers that took up half my living room, but I think it'll be worth it.

They're pretty straight forward if you know what you're doing. I have 2 light switches left in the basement and I'm completely done with light switches. I've pretty much swapped every single light fixture, outlet and light switch in my entire house at this point

Oh it's easy....it's just a pain. Once it becomes routine you're cutting the time down by half. I've replaced every outlet in our house sans the master bedroom and bath. Which we haven't painted yet. Although we are having a complete Brasilia bedroom set delivered today so I imagine the wife's going to make me paint that room soon.

I want to replace all of our switches and outlets too. They are all ivory and I much prefer white (#firstworldproblems). I've been replacing them as the opportunity presents itself (which isn't often ).

^ I've been doing the same in my house.

The wife enjoys painting over outlets/switches so I only replace in rooms that she has painted and won't be painting again.

Yea it's too big of a room and we've got big changes for the master bath and closets so we are waiting. I'm putting in custom cedar shelving in the master closet and and adding a make up booth to the master bath. I've just got so much other stuff going on the bedroom has taken a back seat.

A set of JBL satellite speakers, they look like 1 model before the set that I had before. They're not bad, just looking to upgrade them to something a little nicer at some point

Yeah...how?

I'm restoring a lawnmower my neighbor gave me. A 10 year old $700 self propelled Snapper. SCORE!

I swear, the little things we get excited about in our 30's.

It isn't, the kid took my money back in April and ran off with it and spent it on other jobs, he runs a pyramid scheme. I have served him with notice (as per the law) that says he has 10 days to return my money or I will take legal action. From my dealings with the kid, this is going to end up in court

The whole point of doing the yard project was to get it ready for a fence for my dogs

you said he ran off with your money, just curious why did you pay him up front? I don't think that was a smart move.

Damn I thought he had started up again after you post a while back. I definitely here you are doing it for the dogs so they had a fenced in yard. Sorry to hear.

I only asked again cause I thought it had been sorted out when he dropped off the fence posts sorry man. I hope you get your money back in court plus money for the time of yours he has wasted as well.

Yeah, he dumped the posts in my yard a month ago thinking it would shut me up, but never came back to install them.

Thanks guys, I have another very reliable friend lined up to do the fence, however I can't afford to shell out any more money at this point until I recover the money and damages from this punk ass that ripped me off, so the fence will be a while, probably the fall.... I am planning to at least finish the yard and plant grass for the time being, as I'm sick of it looking half-assed and unfinished for 4 months now

Sh*t like this pisses me off.

And not to add insult to injury, but stories like this are ANOTHER reason I DIY as much as I possibly can. I don't trust anyone.

Me too, I redid the whole inside of my house, I trusted this guy because my buddy worked for him. However when shit went down with him ripping me off, my buddy quit, so he has even less reason to come back and finish my yard now. Oh well, you live and learn

I had it happen once, too... Sucks, but you learn from it and move on. Glad you at least have the materials.

You planning on doing sod or grass from seed?
