What's Xbox's return policy on LIve cards? I bought a PSN card but for a NBA 10 PSP download as I was in a hurry and thought it was a regular card. Sony won't take it back and the retailer can't even scan it so I have to sell this shit for a loss.

 

i buy all of my points via live... never knew of anyone that returned one...

 

I'm thinking about getting one of the new 360s to using as a media streaming device but I want to know how quiet it is compared to the original PS3. My PS3 can get too loud while streaming movies from my WHS server, I'm hoping the 360 can take over this role.

the older xbox 360s are quiet when watching stuff over the media servers. (at least my elite is)

they're really only loud when their DVD drive kicks in.


my original PS3 was pretty quiet watching stuff over the network, and the slim is even quieter.

I have the HD-DVD add on. And bought it after BD "won" the format war on purpose.

Sure, they stopped making them a while ago now, but if there are any titles they did make them in you can get the for DIRT cheap. I've bought numerous HD-DVD movies off amazon in the $3-5 range. Tell me what BD's you'll get for that price.

New 360 for $199 comes with 4GB internal memory, WIFI N, and black. There are better links but everything is blocked at work.

I finally went to the dark side and picked up one of the new Xbox 360s, my first (and hopefully my last) 360!!

I know crazy right!?!? I'm supposed to be MS #1 fanboi that sucks off Bill Gates every night and yet I never had a 360 till NOW!?!? Maybe I'm not as fanboish as you thought I was???

The reason I never got a 360 is cause of the RROD issue and I heard it was really LOUD! So I've been waiting patiently for five years for MS to get their shit together and it seems like they have! This thing is whisper quiet, I can't hear it at all over my TV (It's an SXRD RPTV that has a fan that cools the lamp).

I got it connected to my Windows 7 machine as a Media Center extender and I can stream my movie collection from my WHS. I can do that with my PS3 but the PS3 is much louder and REALLY heats up my room. I have an OG 60GB PS3 so it's not really a fair comparison but yeah the 360 is much quieter and cooler than that PS3.

I picked up only one game since I don't game much anymore (I got it more for it's media/streaming capabilities than for games (weird, huh?)) I picked up Forza 3 and it's pretty sweet. Graphics aren't as good as GT5 but they aren't bad. I liked that my skills from Gran Turismo transferred over perfectly to Forza.

 

Return it and buy a slim PS3. You're 60GB is an endangered species.

 

When I bought my 360 Pro a few years ago, I wasn't even a PS3 fan. Long story short, I had to return my Pro 6 or 7 times to Microsoft for repair or replacement in less than 2 years for various problems. I then bought an Elite because I thought MS got their s*** together with it, but I was wrong; 2 more repairs or replacement with the "Elite" in less than a year. The Pro that I ended up giving to my brother even failed again. during the same time my Elite had failed.

After that I vowed to never buy another Microsoft console and haven't bought a game for it since; save for a couple of bargain bin games.

Now my Elite FINALLY seems to be running fine for the most part. As far as the Pro I gave to my brother, I dunno; I don't think he even plays it anymore.

I ended up getting a 160 GB PS3 a couple of years ago, and no problems with it, I'm still on my first one as a matter of fact. (knock on wood).

It does look like the new 360 console is much better than their first pieces of junk they released, but they should have done this from the get go. Even though the new consoles seem better, after going through 8 or 9 of them in a span of 3 years, I'm kind of wary about giving anymore money to Microsoft. Hell, they should be giving customers that have had 4 or more 360 failures one of their new consoles for free!

 

yeah this is a complete redesign putting the Cpu. GPU, FSB, PCIe controller, etc which used to be separate chips all on one chip, all at a much lower power consumption.



this tech was pretty much nonexistant when the 360 first came out, in fact MS/IBM is the first company to combine this many components on a desktop class chip (it's very common in Smartphones). This chip uses 60% less power and takes up 50% less space. I'm very confident that this design won't have the RRoD issues of previous models.

Oh, it still has those issues. But instead of being able to kamikaze it's way through a 5-hour MW2 session, it'll just shut down on it's own.

The overheating is still there, they just added a measure of protection.

but to be totally honest, i've never had to return or repair any of my 360's

i had my original 20GB white for 3 years before getting an elite, then quickly switching to my current CoD xbox... and im giving this one away to my nephew when i pick up the halo edition...

the RRoD was definately one of the hugest fails in gaming.. but myself, and numerous others i know have had consoles for several years without problems.. (i know friends that have had multiple 360's that failed also)

i think the RRoD is 85% defect and 15% console treatment...

 

I'm on my third 360 in...I don't remember. I think I got it Christmas 06? The first one RROD and I sent it in. They sent me a unit that didn't play Region 1 DVDs. So I took that one into the store and got my money back under their return policy. Upgraded to the black Elite right before Christmas 07. Haven't had an issue since. It beeps at me, but we never figured out what that was.

I'd cry if I had to replace it.

honestly, it gives me just the slightest, tiny bit of pleasure in knowing i have a limited edition item... not to be 1337 or anything. it just gives me a sense of pride in my stuff...

i wanted the elite when it came out...
i wanted teh CoD when it came out...
and now im getting the Reach 360...

some call it a waste of money, i call it occasional splurging...

microsoft even sends me a free transfer cable everytime i get a new console to carry over my game saves and purchases...

Had my 360 Elite for 3 years, and just got the one red light of death. Error 74. I used it a lot, too. M$ will fix it free of charge even though it's 3 years old, so no biggie.

My only complaint is how loud it is. When I'm watching netflix, I have to turn the TV way up. Other than that, it has been rock solid.

 

The new 360 is so freaking silent, I love it!

 

Maybe I should just upgrade.

If the new ones are even quieter that then ill be more than pleased

it comes with 2 controllers... the game (of course)
and has custom power up sounds... and custom "open tray" sounds...

the sketched out on the halo headset.. but im not buying it seperate b/c mine works fine.

if you dont like paying for xbox live, your not using the service enough to realize how much better it is than the free alternatives...

its not for everybody, but there are ways of playing with people of your liking... its called custom p vs. p settings.. its in most games that are based heavily online...

it lets you choose chatty, quite, serious, leisure.




ps. you do know you can use basic features online for free without paying for XBL right?
