Microsoft: Xbox 360 news
in that case, it would get smashed anyway..
if my xbox were to something land on it, its going to be the entire TV/shelf.. in which case standing it upright would change nothing
the new xbox only has vents on one side, the heat from inside the machine only exits the top (or right) of the console.

exactly. the only way I see the disc causing damage is putting it in an then turning the xbox upside down. the cords/kids/pets thing applies to the xbox whether it's horizontal or vertical.
Kinect looks interesting. Pick up Dance Central so you can learn some moves.
What is cool is that it has voice activations so watching movies on your 360 can be done without pushing buttons.

Only read one review and it wasn't positive. Said it was choppy at best. I think I'm leaning towards sticking with the Wii.
i'll reserve my full judgment until i've played with one.. but every time I've watched somebody use it, it looks like it does a great job of following body movement with very little lag.

I did find a positive review though. I'm on the fence, I'd love to try it out. I wonder what availability will be like. I'd like this to be an X-Mas gift for the kids so was thinking of pre-ordering just to make sure I get one.
One year ago, the sloppy and generally imprecise experiences we had with Kinect could have been passed off as pre-alpha buginess. But this is the state of Kinect in 2010, just months away from launch. With a full extra year of development under its belt, we’re not impressed with what we’ve seen.
The Kinect is not easy to use, it’s not accurate, and it’s not fun. The only worse waste of $150 we can imagine spending on the Kinect at this point is the ensuing trickle of dollars that would go into buying the present selection of godawful titles for it.
If there’s any potential for Kinect, it probably lies in its use as a tool for controlling menus. The few opportunities we had to interact with it on this level – rather than in games – it actually offered enough precision to not only work, but work well. If it can maintain that feel from a couch, reaching for the remote could become a thing of the past.
Nintendo really has a leg up on Microsoft here, and the Sony Move is definitely looking more promising at this point.

Wow, honestly that link sounds like bullshit. I've read generally positive reviews of the device and I've used it myself and thought it was great. So when I see an article that so clearly goes against the general consensus of everyone else that's used it makes me raise the
flag.
Also they didn't post a video of it being laggy and sucking, they have no proof to back it up. While all the positive reviews have actual videos and evidence to the quality of the kinect. So you can take someone's words who provides no video proof to back it up or you can take everyone's else's experience and ton's of video proof to back it up....

Does come across as if it was written by a Sony fanboy. Maybe Yumchah works there.
I think I'm going to give it a try. Worst comes to worst I can return it and pick up a Wii before X-Mas.

Kinect feels like a complete waste of money. I mean if the 360 is your only console, I suppose, but the Wii and Move seem like better choices at this point.
If you're into that sort of thing.

im all about opinions... just pokin fun.
i'd say at the moment... the move has better game choices for their motion gaming accessory..
but the wii def. comes in 3rd to me... 480p and gimmicky games..(which are great for kids btw)
going from 360 or PS3 to wii is a downgrade if you're old enough to enjoy more mature games...
Xbox and PS3 have both surpassed wii at their own game IMO.

Not owning a Wii, as an adult fan of the older Nintendo consoles, is IMO a crime. I have every game I used to play when I was a kid via Virtual Console, and still enjoy the new stuff like Galaxy. Granted the system does have more than it's share of shovelware, but there are enough first and third party games to justify owning one.
My 360 and PS3 get the lion's share of gaming time, but let's face it - outside of a few exclusive titles they are the same thing with the same kinds of games. Once in awhile I really have the urge to play some Mario or Sonic.
Good Sonic, not the shit they've been putting out since 1997. I've got Sonic covered on my Saturn, but it's not always easy on the eyes.

thats why i have the SuperNES, 64 and NES sitting right next to the xbox..
if i want mario games.. i'll play real mario games

Plus who wants digital copies of classic games? The real deal is usually cheaper and has that awesome classic feeling.. Not holding a wireless nunchuck to play mario 3...

It's three things you need to have a space for and hook up to your TV versus one. It's three different devices that could fail versus one.
I get done playing with SMB and want to play some Lode Runner or Starfox64, I just push a couple of buttons. And I don't have a long controller draped across the floor for my kids to trip on.

Entertainment centers don't grow at all.
It's not a dig. You'll get older and wonder why you don't have one thing that can equal what three do. Conversationally, I found the picture better on the Wii VC games so that was a plus.
I thought about getting the NEX, but when I realized I would just be wasting time and money hunting around for cartridges, I came to my senses.
Like I said, it does everything the old systems did. Aside from nostalgia and bragging rights, what's the point?

some people just acutally enjoy having a NES and blowing the cartridge to get it to work, and having a stack of 30 games for each console.. and enjoy having to sit closer to the TV with wired controllers...
who cares about space? if you want, you can roll the whole thing into a ball and shove it into the closet/attic in 2 minutes time.. just seems like a whiney reason to not own them.. part of the whole experience is to take it all out and hook it up...
if one of the good reasons to buy a wii is to replace the "clutter" of older consoles and cartridges, im confident in my decision to sell mine. b/c it was a $200 glorified arcade machine.
im sure i could play pong on a PS3.. by why would you want to? it defeats the purpose...
lulz at bragging rights
