Further more, "I imagine so" wasnt an argument but an agreement. I was agreeing with your point on what probably made the raid hard as that was all I was trying to do in the first place, make conversation.
I apologize for having started it with negativity by saying they suck when clearly they are trail blazers here.
As you can imagine, I have never done a raid, nor weekly heroic, nor am I even level 20. But so far my KD is a couple points shy of 100 in story so it seems nuts to have a team of 6 and do a 3 k/d. Clearly I am wrong because the higher levels have assured me it gets tough. Case closed thanks for the input. I'm sure my raid KD will blow in comparison to my story or even strike KD now.

Im interested in seeing where everyone's defense is at for their level.
Ive been wondering, when I do story missions I level up quick with minimal loot upgrading.
While doing patrols or events I find much more loot which seems to be stacking faster than while doing story missions.
Is 500 defense right before hitting level 20 weak strong or average?
Also not getting this whole encrypting thing. Is there a trick to getting blue engrams to actually make rare items and not turn green.
I had a blue helmet turn green once encrypted and a green machine gun turn blue... what gives??
The encrypting has some statistics behind it. There's no official stats out there but supposedly someone decoded nearly 600 engrams and his results are as follow:

I cant see your second class.. but there is a yellow 24 next to your name, so I figure you're level 24, but when you click your stats it says Bladedancer 20... does this mean you put 4 levels into the other subclass?

The yellow level is not your traditional experience point level. The level 24 is Light Level. Basically, it just indicates how strong your armors are. The stronger the armor, the more Light it gives you, thus the higher your Light level. Weapons don't give you light.
The shaders you can actually buy from one of the merchant in the Speaker area. I do t recall the name of the merchant. There's not a lot of options though.

Aaaahhh. Okay. I didnt get that tutorial window until I hit 20. I get it now.
Tried Crucible. Not bad. I'll give it a few more goes and see if I can start winning.
Tried the Strike Playlist. I really enjoyed that but the first time we lost and one of our guys left. Making it REALLY car for the remaining guardian and I. We got even closer though, then died. Then he left. WTF. I tried alone and that was nuts. hahaha
Tried a second playlist and got through two strikes, which really bumped up my glimmer and engram intake.
Collected a few rare items so looks like Ill just have to keep at it like this.
Also tried "glimmer farming". Got really bored of it so screw that.
-Start it after Tuesdays, unless you intend to sit for one whole day to finish it. Progress is reset every Tuesday morning.
- Raid gear set reward is not showing up for everybody so you will be pissed at the rewards you get after completing it. Bungie says they are working on it.
- At the minimum, you should be level 26 to start. But really, you want to be 28. It will help everyone out tremendously.
- Have a thick skin, or play with friends you know you will still not hate after it is over. You are guaranteed to despise at least 3 people in your raid group throughout it.
- Have extra batteries for your controller waiting.
- The final boss can be killed in either 6 minutes, or 6 days.
- Try to be the fireteam leader if you can, so you don't have to rely on someone else to be responsible and honest.
- Don't bother with the Vault of Glass if you value your sanity ;|

One guy in my group quit at the final boss because he couldn't take the constant verbal abuse from the fireteam leader (fireteam leader was a legit asshole).

The fireteam leader is the only one that saves the progress of the raid. If he is not honest, he can just replace the people in the raid and finish it with different people for his own personal gain.

I got mad at one of my friends in the Phogoth heroic strike. He didn't follow my strategy of sticking together, reviving each other as soon as we die, and staying far away from all knights/wizards. Not sure if my anger was obvious to the team, but I was definitely frustrated. So I know what you mean by hating a certain someone at the end of a hard fight.
Phogoth was a pita, i had some random people on my team. had to keep running in circles around the map just to survive. after 6 rage quits from 6 different people. I finally beat it.
Phogoth took two tries with random people I didn't know.
I can see how people get upset with others.
When it comes to playing with strangers they tend to go for the bosses so I kept on the minions clearing them out and keeping them off my teammates backs.
Worked pretty well and I was getting so many engrams.
how long did the Raid lasted for you? And were you playing with a few randoms or they were all your friends?
Too damn long! Split between 2 days, it took about 13 hours.
It was 50/50, half mine, half random but the random half were all friends with each other so it sort of worked out. But I'll never play another game with them ever again
Beat the weekly Nightfall late last night before the reset with friends. Damn that -return to orbit when everyone dies- modifier is brutal. First time I did it, we got Phogoth down to half life before we all died and had to restart. After we beat it, even though I did 70% of the damage to the boss, I got a legendary engram which turned into a shitty blue gun lol. Meanwhile my 2 friends -one got a legendary gun, and the other an exotic gun- They thanked me for carrying them through it and the loot, but thanks does not equal loot for me
If you can, do the Weekly Nightfall ASAP. Not only do you get a cool blue flame around your head, but you get double XP from everything for the remainder of the week.
edit: Somebody became the first level 30 in the world.

I read that level 30 guy made 3 hunters and did the Raid 3 times to get stronger gears? Not sure if that's true but that's a lot of work to get to 30.

Yeah if you click on his profile, you can that to be true. It's crazy that he managed to do all that without making Destiny his full-time job, either. Most likely a combination of extreme great luck and good clan teammates.
I'm still pissed I didn't get anything worthwhile from Nightfall.
ugggh, I was a few shy away from both Mote of Light and Strange Coin. It wasn't until yesterday that I had more than 13 strange coins and 23 Mote of Lights.
Supposedly the Queens Wrath gear is pretty easy to get according to some of the people that already got it....
Hey, do you know if we can equip both weapon and armor exotic? I know that you can only equip one armor exotic at a time, but not sure if it's true for the former?

You get Queen's Wrath gear for completing her Kill Order missions. You get a Kill Order mission by completing one of her bounties. Guaranteed purple loot (looks like first one is a sniper rifle).
I never bothered with the 25 motes of light for exotic engram because of cryptwat.
You can ONLY equip ONE exotic armor and ONE exotic weapon at the same time. So you can have 2 exotics total on your character at most.

Sweet!!! I almost believed that you can only have 1 exotic on your body at one time. Now I won't have any hesitation buying an exotic armor because I was holding off on it just in case I get an exotic primary weapon. As a hunter I feel like I need stronger weapons more than stronger armor because I'm already squishy enough and can get killed easily in Crucible so the perks of an exotic weapon will help me tremendously.
I'd say it's faster to get Crucible gear since each game is about 10 minutes long vs the hour it might take on one strike in a strike playlist. Plus doing bounties for Crucible is much much easier. Some of it is like Play 5 Control Matches, Kill 25 Hunters, Get 5 Postmortem Kills, etc. Pretty easy.
Every time I've played it, I'm matched with much higher ranks, and some people having shields. How the fuck do you get a shield? I really don't understand the balancing (if any at all). I'm lucky to get 2-3 kills in a match.
It's the most unbalanced PvP I've ever played and it's truly terrible IMO. I'd rather play CoD honestly.
I don't disagree. I know what you mean because I felt that way as well when I was at a lower level. Then I realized that I just needed to play it more to get better. Now I'm consistently the top 3 scorer on the team. It just takes some getting used to. The balance is that all weapon and armor stats are nullified. The only advantage left are the class ability, weapon, and armor perks.
So that means your level 4 weapon is not at a complete disadvantage as someone else's level 20 weapon. What determines the weapon damage in Crucible is the Impact level of the weapon.
I've seen a level 8 guy be the top scoring player. But that person probably was playing their second or third character.
Any more tips on what weapon to use? Something automatic seems to be favored online.
Anything that is comfortable for you.
A lot of people love the shotgun for small maps. The technique is slide to your opponent, pop a shotgun. If the shotgun doesn't instant kill, follow through with melee. Rinse and repeat.
Some are good with the hand cannon since those weapons have high impact (but low firing rate).
I myself am comfortable with auto rifle that has high stability as a perk. I have tried the shotgun method but it's not working out too well for me.
Also, use the radar. One thing about Destiny is that the radar will tell you exactly where the enemy is in proximity, whether or not they're firing a weapon. Just being close to them, you will see them on the radar, and vice versa for the enemy. Crouching will make you less visible on the radar but still visible. Hunters can be completely off the radar with their invisibility ability. It's only effective against radar detection because you can still see the Hunter's silhouette when they're "invisible".
To correct my earlier post, you get 1 purple item after the Queen's Wrath mission, but it is random and not the guaranteed sniper rifle. I got a headgear the first time.
As for the Crucible, it sucks in the beginning when you have to get used to it, but after that like mdk, I regularly am in the top 3 if not 2. BTW being the MVP with 25 kills and over 3000 points still does not guarantee you any rewards lol. Everyone on my team in one match got something but me even though I dominated and carried them.
Teamwork > skill in the Crucible 100% of the time. A team of 6 people working together properly will win no matter what and make you feel like shit.
Omg yes!!! I finally have all legendary armors. I was sad because all of my buddies had at least one legendary item while I was having bad luck with purple engrams turning into rare all the time. Well, playing the Queen's Wrath today, a legendary engram was dropped and I received a legendary armor at the end of the level. Two for one. So stoked.
