The Subaru thread

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
Subaru has the HiD as an option here (mine has them, D2S bulbs). I don't know if the US model had them as an option.

Private party, in good condition is $20K. So if this thing is in really excellent condition, the price is fair. If it's a dealer, then get a touch of warranty and snap it up.
Also, take it for a drive. But the bigger question is slush box or manual?

I installed a slim line HID kit in my OEM projectors.

On a related note, a couple of WRXs came up at a local dealer. I thought I'd check insurance rates before considering further. Yow.

The 5 speed auto is not that bad. And the 2.5i does have a manual, as its for fuel economy. It's still a good price if you get some warranty, and the miles are low.

I'm picking up a set of OEM STi BBS wheels, exactly like the ones pictured above. I'm going to have them powdercoated, not sure on the color yet.
They're forged (16.5# ea.). I will be shaving 5+lbs per corner. Stoked.

I would go with the stock subaru gold since gold 5x100s are hard to find and can be sold at a higher price or go with light bronze or chromium black, graphite

If they were gold I would probably bolt them on to see what they looked like but I won't refinish them gold. All the trim on the car is black and cf so I will probably go dark on the wheels. Maybe flat black or a teflon black type powder coat finish.

This is the color my oem wheels are coated. I liked it so much I did my PFF7's, which have since been sold.

Im actually lookin for a set of rims that would resemble the the 2120 speedlines but with a concave look in a light bronze. Then I guess it would be easier to find the N22's that I want to go with em

After visiting the powder coat shop yesterday to look at colors I'm strongly leaning towards my old stand by color pictured above. I wanted to change it up but that color is just money. At least I'm switching up wheels.

Anyone have experience with a 2nd Gen Legacy GT? I started looking at them for a beater this winter so the S2K can sleep till Spring. Should I be looking for usual problems like head gaskets and timing chains?
Thanks guys.

Yes. Members are very unbiased except for a few.
The name is Acurazine, but it's more like Bimmerzine or Mazdazine these days.

I'm curious to know what you Subaru owners think... now that the 2011 WRX shares the same body with the STi, could you justify the extra cost of the STi over the WRX? I understand they perform similarly. I wonder if STi sales will suffer now.

The price of sedan version STi is substantially less than the hatch version IIRC. You can get the sedan one for like 31-32k. There's couple members on mazdaspeed forum who just switched have told me.
And WRX has a 5 speed manual and STi has a 6 speed.... that and there are significant differences in suspension set up I believe.

I know the 5-speed has gotten a bad reputation and the 6-speed seems pretty stout (again, for those who aren't going crazy with mods) but are other parts more "beefy" on the STi compared to the components on the WRX? I know the brakes on the STi are much improved over the WRX... still wondering if that $4k-8k (hatch) is worth the price of admission.

But for the vast majority of owners or those who will do no mods other than perhaps a COBB AP and exhaust... will you really notice a difference? I seem to think you wouldn't notice a performance difference unless you were driving in track conditions.

If budget is not much of an issue, I would definitely go with the STi over WRX for sure.
You should just go test drive both at the dealership or something. On the paper, they seem pretty identical, but it's all about driving experience. And it's certainly different.
