I spent some more time driving the A6 Avant. Overall the ride is great, but the French roads are also very good.
I wish these cars has a place to put the powered tonneau cover somewhere at the base of the trunk. With my bigger luggage, I need to remove it otherwise it hits the glass. The only place I found that fits is directly behind the headrests of the rear seats, this covers my rear visibility 100% through the center rear view mirror. The BMW touring had a similar problem, but I think I found a way to make it not completely obstruct.
The range on a tank is fantastic, I just filled up and the computer is estimating over 1000km on a tank.
The lanekeep / radar cruise adjustments are very easy and intuitive. Far less moronic than the bmw x7 where you need to go though menus to adjust following distance. This system is more basic, but the rental is fairly low trim so maybe that’s why. The bmw x7 for example changes lanes when you signal, this doesn’t, it lets you do it.
I absolutely detest the chimes when you are 1km over the speed limit, but that is the way of the future, right?
on a couple of occasions, the smart speed limit adjustment cruise mistook the exit ramp 70km/h limit for the highway speed, so it slammed the brakes to get me down from the posted 130km/h limit. It also tried to send me down an exit ramp once, which is odd since the highways here are exceptionally well marked.
one last gripe with electronics, CarPlay failed to connect 4 times. Each time i turned off the car, then back on and it worked.
on the other hand, the interior vents are great, they deliver plenty of air quietly, where you need it. That’s for the front and rear passengers. By contrast, the bmw x7 front vents are complete shit.
‘I do find the climate control is a bit too pro active, it adjust too much from sun shine to shade that you end up having to adjust the temp up and down a bit yourself. (Most minor of complaints, just thought I’d share)
Highway cruise is very quiet and comfortable, country roads are also handled perfectly well. Steering is numb, but the input and outputs are always very predictable and I like that putting a wheel in the dirt to allow another car through doesn’t yank the wheel out of your hand.
Damn, someone locally is selling this Volvo V60 T8 Polestar, you rarely see these for sale (and I believe Volvo axed the Polestar trim). I know it ain't no M/// or AMG or RS but I've always liked this
😍

Below are some more pics.
I really wish they would bring the A6 Avant over here to the states. They figured people wouldn't buy the RS6 Avant. Lol! Id get the A6 Avant tho! I don't want the Allroad. Looks lifted and the stupid plastics on the fenders. Not a fan.
Yeah, I don’t like the allroad look either. Bummed the non-AMG wagon in the USA now is the same style too. Porsche Taycan as well, you need to go to GTS trim to get sport turismo not cross turismo.
little update with my wagon rental, did a 7 hour drive today, other than the seats, it’s pretty great. Had fewer issues with the self-drive, but I still experienced some odd/unexpected behavior as described before.
At the place I’m staying, there is a 5 series touring which reminds me of my rental 2 years ago and I miss it. I would definitely take it ove the A6.
pretty cool to see one of these as a taxi.
i like the styling of these, they are the g-wagon of vans looks wise.

I loved the A6 - super comfortable and felt well built. Like most VWs, you can disable that speed warning chime or change the setpoint. I would have mine set at 90 because it was very easy to cruise at that speed.
Are we sure the tonneau cover is blocking your view and not your luggage?
The V60 T8s had two versions of that body style, IIRC it was 2022 when they received an update where the super and turbo charged engine was dropped for just a turbo. But electric power was bumped up - 455/520ish, up from 415/490ish. Surprisingly, weight didn't change much. Though it was still a fatty - 4500lbs.
I do think the drive select knob of the pre-22s was a nice touch. The refresh got an infotainment update that moved the drive select to the screen. Lame.

oh, I didn't know that... the one for sale (that I posted) is a 2021

lol, well, yes the luggage is a bit of an obstruction as well,
I’ll take a picture of the tonneau later today.
What year A6 did you have? My mom had a 2004 A6 2.7TT. Those seats were pretty good. As far as solid feel, my rental A6 and her A6 felt very solid. There are no rattles or flex in potholes or when I have to drop a wheel off to make way for a tractor or truck on small country roads.
I conflated two tidbits of cars in that post - I should have said "I would have mine set on my Golf R..."
I didn't own an A6. The A6 Allroad was in my top 3 when I got a new car back in 2022. I had a lengthy test drive in a 2022 model (before the mild hybrid setup iirc). I loved everything but the price. $80k spec'd how I wanted it and no wiggle room at the post-covid dealer removed it from contention.

yeah, those were not good times to buy cars for sure.
seat comfort is pretty individual, but for our backs, it didn’t work out
Now I can't seem to stop seeing V60s wherever I go!! Not a T8, but saw this fairly common T5 a few days ago.
Also, should probably go in the HW, diecast models, etc. thread, but I'll just post these here instead. My latest HW acquisition (the 850) and now on the lookout for the others in the set, esp. that RS6 Avant!
Volvo ended the V60 wagon in the states so my suspicion is owners are trying to capitalize on the elevated market. Low mile 2024s are selling around 60k still.
They both demand no reserve on my Z3, I'm not buying their assertion it increases engagement, maybe for those hoping to win for .45 after it goes over 5 or 10k the engagement is the engagement.
I'm not interested in losing any more than the 12-15k reserve I want
One last pic of the A6 rental showing all the luggage we packed in the trunk. You can also see the tonneau cover wedged in there perfectly blocking rear visibility… not that I could see anything once the luggage was in.
