I agree to some extent, but if you see it further out and there isn’t another vehicle near for size reference you can easily mistake it. If you park next to it, for sure size will be noticeable.
in general I have not been a fan of the forced homogenized styling of brands. Personally, I don’t feel the need to have the same nose on all Acuras. In the 90s, I never mistook an NSX for the Vigor, or the Legend. I also never thought the Legend was a Buick because all Acuras didn’t have the same grill.
The S has always been about understated luxury and flying under the radar without the poors even knowing. If you want flashy, the Maybach line exists.
For me, the giveaway is the body line down the side. The E has a predominant line from the front to the back. The C has a line that goes from the front wheel to the back door, while a second, more subtle line starts from the rear handle and continues rearward.

My complaint was directed at a car having a distinct look, not the fact that it’s understated or flashy.
Speaking of maybach the 57 and 62 flopped because it looked too much like an S class. Recently they certainly tried to add some glitz but compared to Bentley and the more expensive RR, those things weren’t selling.
Also, the C & S have always shared a lot of design queues.
The E has only more recently merged into the same aesthetic.
Same with the SUVs. The GLK & ML & GL were very different looking. Now the GL_ are just like the sedans, increasingly larger versions of a fairly similar looking SUV.

I do agree the W202 had a similar look to the w140 from the front. To me the w203 and w204 looked different enough from the S. W205 and w206 are a reprint of an S but at 110%
the SUVs, I don’t care, it’s an SUV. As long as they don’t try to mimic the Gwagon, they can do whatever and I’m happy to ignore them.
anyways, in G-wagon, I mentioned the word “wagon” which is as close to topic as I’ve been for my last few posts.
One-off Niels van Roij designed RR "Silver Spectre" (Wraith-based) shooting brake. (Just watched Jonny Smith's The Late Brake Show episode on Dario Frachitti's car cave, and he's got it in his collection.)
Sorta Art Deco meets Brutalism. And a wee bit obscene, if you ask me. Not really to my taste, but ....
Funny enough: I owned an Audi 5000S in Germany (the US version of the 100) back in 96. 5 speed manual, about 120 HP (could have been less). When the back had any cargo the front end would be "floaty". It was scary to drive.

funny enough, my first car nearly was an early 90s Audi S4. The owner of the company where my parents worked was looking to trade his and he said he would give us a great deal. Unfortunately, the car was totaled in an accident with a drunk driver. I still don’t think we could have afforded that car even with a “good deal”, plus it was a manual and my parents had 0 interest in a manual. Anyways, I’m off topic yet again…
although, I reserved my rental for our trip to France this summer and I’m getting a “BMW 5 series touring or equivalent”. So I’ll post some pics when I get there, or when I get back.

If they force you to drive an A6 Diesel, do it. It's not a stoplight burner but you can haul on the Autobahn with no effort. Really quiet too. Except they will put winter tires on it to keep your speed to 215Km/h max.

yeah I had a BMW 5 series diesel las time (g31). Around town it was great, getting on the highway was fine too. The only time I wish it had more grunt was for passing on mountain or country roads. The car did have a full trunk and 4 passengers, so it was hauling a fair amount but it definitely ran out of steam at higher speeds. Great fuel economy though,
In 2017 I ended up with an E200d (w213), that thing had no power. The E220d would have been more tolerable. Luckily that was a shorter trip with just the wife so luggage and passenger were a lot less of a burden on the car.

Correct, because the 57 and 62 were at similar price points as the big boi Bentleys and RR's. The new Maybachs are just the top trim level of the S class and considerably cheaper, by as much as a half, than the real ultra lux cars. Watched a Doug video of the latest Maybach and he said he'd take it over the bigger, more expensive ones.
I'd just have a topped up sub-Maybach S. But, I'm a poor
My grandmother had 7, and they were typically the trim just under the top non-AMG model. S420/430 instead of the 500. Until they went to a single S model with the 550s & she had one that was nicely equipped but not loaded.
The W222 was amazing and silent as a crypt at 100mph, but I loved the facelift W220 the most. Would love a W220 S55
Ah come on, 500hp is a good amount, (also the 5L v10 TT made 571 according to google). Weight is also a factor. Granted this isn’t a featherweight, but it’s lighter than the new RS6 by 500lbs and 700lbs lighter than the M5 touring.
My Old Neighbor asked to do a car review for a youtube channel he's trying to get off the ground...
I was blown away by his editing and research...
very very cool. Figured I would share it here where enthusiasts would actually appreciate it. J.
