The Official Honda S2000 Thread
Every time I look through this thread I go straight to AutoTrader to see how much S2000s are going for nowadays ...

I even went a step further and checked what my insurance rates would be on an AP1 - cheaper than my CL-S6 by $3/mo

Tyler! Man up and do it bro! You won't regret it!
I was the second owner too. It came with original window sticker, a copy of the cashier's check from the initial purchase, the manual and a few other things from the purchase as well as all the service records.
And man I beat the shit out of that thing. hahahah
I've been driving mine daily
Even on Christmas Eve. Wife and I put the top down, put on some coats, she had a hat and scarf and brought a nice thermos with coffee in it

I checked out 4 x S2000s this week, mainly AP1s, and found a well maintained clean title 2004 Grand Prix White AP2 S2000 with 115,000 miles - the loan paperwork is pretty much finalized and I'm waiting on him to scan me back the signed payoff authorization form - I should have it paid off before years end.
I was pretty reluctant to pickup a high mileage S2000, but this is why you need service records & compression tests before purchase. The cars I had checked out and inspected had piss poor compression, clear evidence of "fiddling" and crappy paint.
The good:
- Clean title
- Engine did a consistent 200psi on all 4 cylinders
- 3 month old battery
- Nearly new Falken FK452 tires
- Gears all engaged smoothly with no grinds, pop-outs or any clutch buzz.
- 1 year old soft top with no rips.
- Tinted Windows
- Car tracked straight with no camber wear
- No leaks from differential, transmission or any part of the engine bay - looked dry and no signs of wipe down.
The bad:
- 1 accident reported on the CarFax - later confirmed after seeing the passenger side fender & front bumper had been repainted from a side swipe from another vehicle. All suspension components looked original aside from the suspension. (see other). Doors, hood, Door jams, driverside fender, trunk and rear bumper all have matching VINs.
- Dent in the driver side door.
- Wear on the driver-side seat bolster & dirty floor mats.
- AP1 wheels, not sure what happened with the AP2 wheels?

Other:
Car has coilovers, Apexi Exhaust & an aftermarket shift knob.
Seller was honest and there were no surprises on the test drive - We agreed on a price of $12,500.
I should pickup the car next week

Good luck, and welcome back to the group.
Love the S2000. Instructed a DE last weekend, another tomorrow...greatness to be able to beat on the car on the track and have it ask for more.
Last gasp of Honda Magic in 2009.

Missed the new member of the AZ S2000 crew. Welcome, Tyler!
You got yourself a good car there, and great job on your research.
Wish I could drive mine, it's been in storage since November 10th--MUCH earlier than usual because the Cleveland weather took a dump starting then.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
It's truly cruel and unusual punishment to make a man wait 7 days to pickup an S2000 after making the deal
.
I'm ecstatic, I already have a playlist & 100 mile route picked out on my first day of ownership.

Thanks! I've been waiting to own this car for nearly 10 years .. I have a grin from ear to ear
I took a friend for a ride yesterday and I quote:
"It's like going to six flags every time you get in the car."

Thanks Ken.
It does need some TLC on the interior & exterior, but it's nothing I can't fix without some elbow grease and some touchup paint.
I've already driven the car 300 miles and there are no issues to report.

I had a dream last night that I traded my AP1 for a 2006+ AP2 with traction control, after looking at Ken's picture above. Seriously. I even woke up in the middle of the night for a short time to look at Autotrader listings.
In reality, my AP1 isn't going anywhere. I recently purchased these roll hoop speaker holders:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/251418272427...84.m1423.l2649
....along with an Alpine radio with BT for phone and XM, and the necessary Modifry connectors. Still deciding on what 6.5 inch speakers to use in the roll hoops. When the weather warms up, this will be my primary project for the S this year.
The plan is to daily it as much as possible, including (gasp!) driving it in the rain to keep miles off my V wagon. I've had the wagon 13 months and it's already got 18.7k miles as of today! I've never driven any car I've owned that much!
PS-any added traction control to their AP1 here? Just curious.

Those speakers are perfect.
I've noticed that the exhaust on my car is so loud that I really can't really enjoy music as much as I did in the CL ... top up or down.
I see a resonator & those speakers in my future.

Sell your AP1 and find a 06+ GPW with black/red interior and keep it for rest of your life.
you can find one but it is expensive. as it should be. Since it is the most rare and desirable combination in s2000.
It is a good investment if you want to keep it for a long time. Think of it as a collector item for Honda fanboys.
