The seats are $$$$$. Thankfully, my car is garaged AND alarmed with motion detector and pager. The insurance on mine is $360/6 mos....but I have three cars, my home, and my business insured with the same company (e.g. multi-account discount), I'm "old" (40) with a good driving record, the car is listed as a "pleasure" vehicle driven less than 7k miles a year, and the car is garaged in a "good" ZIP code. I consider that inexpensive.

@JJaber: Many people use the car as a weekend car, me included. I put only 4k miles on mine this past driving season. My 2002 had only 11k miles on it when I picked it up.

it is sad.

The problem is the car is a convertible and very easy to get into, so typically when the seats are gone the top needs to be replaced, the combination is usually around $15k for an AP2

He's also only 20 years old. I was paying more than that on the CL-S when I was that age.

Now I pay $180/mo for 2 cars.

Indeed. This is the first car I've ever owned that requires seat locks. So even if the thief gets into my car and ignores the alarm, they won't get the seats.

They'll probably cut them just out of frustration and I'd still have to replace them.

If I didn't have a garage, I would just invest in a hardtop.

Same here... actually I would have gone one step further and not bought the car if I didn't have a garage. I did a lot of research prior to purchase and read a lot about seat theft and it wasn't a risk I was willing to take.

Laguna Blue 05' with mid 20k for 18,900 I can probably get it down to 17ish...in which case it would be a straight up trade once I part out. Decisions decisions.

As far as modding goes, is it true that aside from F/I there is no real gains from bolt ons?

I'm gonna go check it out today and see what they can do on the price.

I'm actually leaning more towards this one, I think i'll get tired of the blue.

The Crazy one is correct. That's why I am going FI. The engine is simply too small to benefit significantly from anything other than FI. There are always good deals on used SCs and turbos on S2KI, that's how I got mine. It's sitting in boxes in my foyer even as we speak. Winter FTL.

Do the Blue. That is a hot color and my second choice after silver.

That potential deal indicates that S2000s are noticeably cheaper the last few months. Economic distress FTL too :thumbsdow .

Yeah i'd deff supercharge it, that should take care of the lack of power down low How much do they usually put down to the wheels with a good tune, RH and exhaust?

It was really only the E46 M3 and I can't find a good deal on one The 370 might be fun in the near future once they hit the used market.

Months of research on the issue indicates the following:

Well actually, a turbo does better with low-end torque than a SC with either S2000 engine. However, SCs are considered more reliable. Average run of the mill turbos can give you 300+ hp. Custom builds with header rebuilds can give you even more power.....there's more than one 500+ whp monster S2k on s2ki.

SCs provide most of their power in the mid-high RPM range in the S2000 but are considered more reliable over the long term, especially the Comptech, which is why I purchased that. The used setup I bought gave the previous owner 291 whp without other changes, then 306 whp after fuel and A/F tuning.

--the CTSC with aftercooler adds easily 80-100 hp, and if you use a smaller pulley, one can get more than that, and when you add bigger injectors, different header, and fuel management, you can get over 400 hp. However, this is the SC felt most likely to keep your S2000 driving experience similar to what you get from the factory, and is the easiest to install--it's just a straight bolt on system when you don't want to do the other mods.
--the Vortech SC is also very reliable and gives more power in the low rpm range, more power overall, and that without modding. You DO need to tap the oil pan as part of the install, however.
--Kraftwerks also has a SC, and Science of Speed is completing beta testing of their SC. The number of players in the S2000 SC market will ultimately drive prices for new SCs down from the $6k range.

Anyway, that was WAY more information than you wanted about FI.

Congrats! You got a good deal. The other deal was decent but not spectacular and clearly not as good as what you ultimately bought.

Now go let that top down for those of us in snow country who can't!

Winter update #2:

While I'm in this thread....I got my parts a few weeks ago. Decided on Sumitomo HTR Z III tires instead of the GYs. The supercharger parts are sitting around patiently awaiting install.

When will winter end?

Tanabe Medalion Touring exhaust and the tires.

thanks everyone!

past few days have been in the low 70s so it's been great. tomorrow however, is raining...

at least the dealer hooked it up with new tires so i'm happy about that. the stock (re50???) were bald and i complained and they coughed up free falken zeix. not the greatest but it'll do for now.

No. I bought 255 rears to provide oversteer protection as I went with 225 fronts.

If I drop the car with tires this wide and wheels of their offset (+50 rear with 9" width), I'll have to roll the rear fenders and move the bumper tab. Yes, I could have gone 215/245 f/r to allow for a future drop and still have oversteer protection, but I wanted the beefier tires and the suspension is juuuuuust right as it came from Tochigi.

This has been said every year since 2001, and yet Honda keeps pumping them out. I won't believe it until Honda HQ says so.

Though they are approaching the breaking point, where the volume is just not profitable anymore - not to mention there are lots of 08's still sitting on lots.

I'd say that doesn't include tax, title and licensing - those can vary greatly by region or the situation surrounding the transaction.

OTD price is often deceiving, or so I've found out... For example both my brother and I bought S2k's on the same day, from the same dealer. Due to the trade in mine was thousands less in tax savings, even though the negotiated price was the same, I had a DMV credit and I paid $80 tax on the car, he paid nearly $2,500.

This may be a repost but
01/26/2009 - TORRANCE, Calif. - The 2009 Honda S2000 will be the final model year produced of the award-winning roadster, Honda announced today. First introduced in 1999 for the 2000 model year, the S2000 helped define its segment with class-leading handling, engine technology and value. Originally envisioned as a limited-edition tribute to Honda's 50th anniversary, S2000 production was extended in response to customer demand and critical acclaim.
"The S2000 is a sports car designed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts," said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "It raised the bar for all future roadsters, and it's already considered a classic by many Honda fans."
As a true sports car that can serve as a practical and fun daily driver yet feel equally at home on a racetrack, this concept further evolved with a club racer-inspired S2000 CR trim, first offered in the 2008 model year. The S2000 has been honored with multiple awards through the years, including four appearances on Car and Driver Magazine's coveted "10-Best" list.
The S2000 is sold in 64 countries around the world with cumulative world-wide sales of over 110,000 since its introduction in 1999. Over 65,000 S2000s have been sold in the United States since 1999.
