My advice, start communicating with the owner, see if you can find out the history of the car. It may even be listed on the S2k forums (and if the owner is active, you can definitely track abuse, care, etc. of the car). If everything checks out, then bring the car to a reputable dealership in ATL and pay $100 for a thorough PPI (pre purchase inspection). You also definitely want to have a leakdown and compression test done since it is boosted.

I would check out the s2000 forum s2ki im sure you can find someone from there that knows alot about the car and can check it out. In addition they people from that forum might know him or he might be on the forum.

That black one is NICE

All these cars need is a nice turbo and you are good to go. Check out some of the vids of turbo s2ks on youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKuZZPb94Fw

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4Pw4uXi8eo

And these things handle boost pretty well. I think stock internals will carry at least 400whp safely with a good tune. The top vid is a nice example. Not sure what the bottom one has.

From my research, the stock internals can handle up to about 330 whp without issues, above that, a thicker gasket and standalone ECU become recommended, then above 400 whp, are required.

I was going to supercharge my S until I bought my CTS-V, so that's how I know...research, speaking with people with experience in installing SCs, etc. Now there's no need, I have the best of both worlds in my garage....MASSIVE low-end torque and a high-revving, fun-to-drive scalpel of a little car with excellent gas mileage.

Did you finally get to kick wife's car out of the garage?

For the S2K owners out there.. what kind of freeway mileage are you getting?

I seem to recall 30+ mpg being easily obtained.

I get 30 mpg easy.

And no, I can't kick wifey out of the garage. She is very possessive about her parking spot. I'm not getting rid of the S, it provides a different type of enjoyment for me. So options are the status quo (one of my cars out of garage) or add on a third bay to the garage. $$$$

I like VIP and I like S2000s.... but the two are just oil and water. Why the hell would you do that to an S2000? That's like getting an Exige, slamming it on bags and mounting low offset dubs on it. You just don't do it to a car like that....

I've never understood that either... I've always been a function over form guy, but some people like to make their cars look a certian way withouit regards to how they are going to drive... A drop is fine, but slammed does nothing for handling. It's for looks only. It's sad when a car becomes a caricature of itself

I'd wreck those cars if I drove them as they were originally intended to be driven from the factory... Fenders would be all messed up the first time I hit a dip in the road at a decent speed...

Nice to look at, but I'd wouldn't want to own them...

I've been thinking about an S2000 as an extra/fun car. I know they're Honda's, but how reliable are they? I'd be looking to drop $10k or less, so would probably pick up a higher mileage car.

Is there any reason I should not do this?

i'm on you on this one, 10-13k budget, i'm looking for 40-70k miles, nothing more unless its a steal. honestly i'd shop around and try finding the best deal. my friend found an ap1 white with red interior, clean title with 40k miles for $12.8k, some negotiation and you have one hell of a deal.

honestly i might look into theft recovery; if its just a slashed top with stolen seats i'm all in, but i still cringe everytime i see anything but clean title.

Bro, do you realize what thread you are posting in? and that an S2000 is a Honda?

Let me tell you how reliable an S2000 is.....on S2KI I read stories routinely about BOOSTED Ss with well over 100k miles on them. There are plenty of stock S2000s that get over 100k and it's just like any other Honda--you feed it, oil it, take care of the 100k mile stuff like belts and spark plugs, and it will take care of you.

Of course, as I say that, my almost seven-year-old S has only 15.6k miles and is going for its yearly oil change Friday.

Get a lift! The S is a relatively short car, so as long as you have decent garage ceiling room-you should be good to go

JB, I've been looking at various cars for potential weekend car, and keep on coming back to the S2k... I'd love to buy a 80's Porsche 911, but you get so much more in a AP1 for half the price...

^ Yeah... I started my search with an S2000 years ago and I've look at many different other cars... but keep coming back to it.

I know that the S2000 is a Honda... I guess I'm more worried about the car being molested by some ricer. I've also been looking at boosted S2k's but thinking that I may not want ot go that route now. Who knows. I have to find a job before the wife will let me spend any more money... and based on the job market right now... I may have time to think

Damm, son! No, I'm not getting rid of my S. That would be a tragic error. In fact, I'm finally putting on my new rims tomorrow along with the oil change. I AM considering selling the supercharger and exhaust, which I haven't had installed yet.

I need at least one car in the corral with good gas mileage.
