So my mom is shopping around for a new car.

The top two she likes is the Audi Allroad and the Mercedes GLK 350.

My mom and dad need the cargo room for when they drive down to Florida and back a couple times a year.

Both cars are around $50k the way they want it configured.

I told her that next she needs to go test drive them to see how it feels and drives to her. I said they are going to be different - one is a six cylinder SUV and another is a turbo four wagon.

I think she is a bit hesitant on the idea of driving a wagon (I don't know why America is so anti-wagon, especially when there are so many good-looking ones out there). She drives a Prius now, and had a 4.4 X5 before that.

Anyways, any thoughts or suggestions? I said I'd pick the brains of my e-car enthusiast friends.

I'm not a huge fan of the GLK to be honest. I'd rather have a MDX than a GLK.

I think someone on the last page posted that Schumacher's old Enzo was now for sale. Well, how about his FXX?

Seeing as they were Ferrari's foray into it's current Clienti XX Programme, it's safe to assume all of them & the 599XXs have been raced quite heavily.

"When I was nine years old, I made £8.5 million."

When I was nine years old, I was playing with Playmobil and trying not to get pantsed by fifth graders during school.

Insert "Star Wars Action Figures" for "Playmobil" and you've got my life at age 9 summed up. Geesh.

You think so? I think the 458 is a much more beautiful car.

Sounds like she has a wide taste in cars

Maybe she'd be interested in the X1 or EX35?

Supposedly the new GLK is much improved over the old one. Would you take an RDX over a GLK?

No, I wouldn't to be honest. I would buy an Escape Titanium 2.0T before the RDX.

Question for all to gauge interest:

Would anyone be interested in a high-quality work stool that can be used in the garage, especially while working on your car, or other parts of the home?

Here at work we are partnered with a German manufacturing company, and we have taken on several of these stools and we are trying to see what kind of demand there would be for this product. What would you be willing to pay for something like this? The seat top height is adjustable and can move up and down. The castors work very well on the garage floor or any smooth surface, and the seat top is very comfortable. Best of all is the tray compartments that you can put your cleaning products and rags into. You won't have to break your back or wear out your knees anymore.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

$40 was the number I was thinking too. Obviously, my biggest concern is going to be the quality of the plastic that forms the base ... For two reasons:

1. It's how the wheels are mounted. If that cracks, the wheels fall off and it's worthless.

2. The shelf is potentially going to hit things as you roll around like the wheel or something in the garage. That puts the base at risk and of course the wheels in the longer run.

Ferris Bueller Ferrari for Sale:

Ferris Bueller, a name that conjures up images of his shenanigans, white lies, and that red Ferrari. Some people might cringe at the mention of the iconic red Ferrari, as it was depicted as being completely totaled in the movie, however fans will be relieved to know that it was merely a fiberglass shell that was sacrificed. The real replica Ferrari 250 GT Spider survived, well mostly. Three were built for use in the movie; one hero car, one stunt car, and one fiberglass shell. Clearly the fiberglass shell did not survive, but the hero car and stunt car suffered a little damage as well. Thanks to the jump scene that needed nine takes, the hero and stunt car both suffered damage to their suspensions.

I think that tray is a great idea, and the biggest reason I'd buy it. But while those wheels look like they'd be great in a garage, they don't look big enough to roll on a not-so-perfect driveway. But obviously I haven't tried it.

The wheels are actually inside the round base, so they could never come in contact with anything other than the floor. The base will protect it. And the base is a very strong plastic, I believe ABS, so it should hold up pretty well.

But stop running into things!

Such as a driveway with cracks? The wheels can transverse smaller cracks pretty well, but if you have fairly larger ones, it may be a concern if a wheel can become lodged into one. But why not-so-perfect?

Errmahgerrrd!
Alpine white, Dove grey interior, 5-speed manual, 50,000 miles, last model year example. Added in supercharger kit, coilovers, exhaust, & several support mods.

$22K!
That price range would make it difficult to keep the Acura as well, but I may very well be tempted to let the Acura go for this & then buy a POS daily b/c there's no way you daily such a beautiful, low mileage example M3.

Contacted them about some more info, so playing the waiting game.

I wanted a manual E36 4-door for the longest time when I was younger, but they were hard to find locally. After the Acura though, I'm ready to mix it up.

Plus, the 4-door manuals still seem a bit tough to find in Alpine White.

Some people just have no clue. There were so many frantic phone calls the shop would receive after people did something and realized it wasn't right (filling engine with oil until it overflowed from valve cover is my favorite).

As an owner of one, I'm advising against it. Not just because of maintenance that is required. The car itself, the way it was made, and the longevity of the parts they used do not meet the expectations of the car. It does not age well. The materials quality inside and out are not made to last in a reasonable condition beyond five or so years. My 1998 is showing its age in a way that is far more disappointing than I think a lot of people realize. The car isn't on its way to becoming a classic but rather is just getting old.

If I compared my 1998 E36 that was pretty well looked after with my dad's 1987 911, the Porsche fared much better.

I have bitched about the E36 here so many times that I'm sure people are tired of it, but I feel like I have an obligation as an owner to let people know what these cars are really like. Because the perception of of the car vs reality often doesn't match

That said, $22k for that car is way, way overpriced. The car is probably worth $13-15k in that condition. The supercharger is an irrelevant addition in the price of the car IMO. A car of that year needs a lot of maintenance done to it and unless the previous owner did it, you're looking at $3k in work before labor.

I know Rick has said that he knows all this but I guess I don't believe anyone that didn't own one could
