General Car Talk Discussion Thread
right? Thats what i always thought...
get this though, now it hasnt happened in a while cause i prevent it by driving in D4 till I go on the highway.
Anyway whenever i would drive in D5 going at those speeds and just lightly on gas increasing my speed, whether it on a flat road or an uphill one, my car would start shaking. But in D4, it NEVER happens. Been driving like this for so many years now that I dont even notice i change D4 to D5 when i go on the highway.
There's also another thing where i get this grinding type noise, but i just hear it. Pedal goes kinda slack so i can feel it in my foot as well. This also happens more frequently in D4, although sometimes it happens in D5 when i'm cruising on the highway. This problem is different the the one above though.
The one above i think it may have something to do with my axle? But then why does transmission affect it? The latter problem is definitely a transmission problem, i just avoid it by going D5 on the hwy, and whenever i feel/hear it i just left off the pedal real quick and it go back on it and its gone.
Not really gonna go in and fix these since i'm kinda able to avoid the problem, but it just got me thinking there's more to switching D4 to D5 than what its thought for?

Agreed. Jeebus that's awful.
Now this, on the other hand, is awesome:
Article in Car and Driver, August 2012

Restomod 1970 280SE 3.5 ... Costs about $400k ... Fully restored and modernized. Has a current gen AMG V8, airbags, nav, etc ... Looks amazing. Might have chosen a different color on the outside though.

So far the only negative I've read about it is that the plastic boost tube can get blown off the turbo due to either poor torquing of the clamp from the factory or the design of the tube itself, don't think it's been determined yet, but there's be a few ST owners who have reported this happening. It's funny because the Mazdaspeed community jumped the gun on an instance of this happening to one of the first ST owners and claimed it was Zoom Zoom Boom which is a major concern with our cars, but needless to say it was indeed too quick of a judgement and all it was was a boost tube that came loose and cause the car to not boost until it was reinstalled and tightened up. But regardless, one thing that you should avoid doing in any turbo car is giving it too much boost at low RPMs.
As much as I apprecaite the Mazdaspeed community for their incredible knowledge, they (specifically the MS3 guys) have a hard time accepting there's another FWD turbo hatch option out there that can keep up with the MS3 and is a nice in betweener to the GTI.

Watching Motorweek's review of the Boxster S.
Man, it looks fantastic. Won't be called a hairdresser's car anymore, that's for sure.
I wouldn't go for the all red interior though. It's way too much.
6MT Sport Chrono 0-60 in 4.4 seconds and 1/4 in 13.1 @110mph and 60-0 in 109ft
A serious performer. It's probably a $75k car for most people but for those numbers it really seems worth it.
